We booked this hotel based upon the pool. We were traveling to Lakeland to watch our son's spring training, and wanted a place with a nice pool for our teenage daughters. We had several issue throughout our stay, and about half were not properly addressed by the staff.
1. Hairdryer didn't work. They gave us a small one (said it was one of the staff's personal hairdryer), then sent the repair person to install a new one. The 2nd time I used it, the new one started smoking and quit working. We got the little hairdryer back for the remainder of our stay.
2. Outside lights on patio didn't work. The repair man came and fixed it when he fixed the hairdryer.
3. Carpeting was filthy...like so bad that my feet would turn black after I took a shower. Gross. The front desk said that they'd had baseball teams staying and hadn't had time to clean the carpets again. Yuck.
4. Ironing board and iron. They didn't have enough to go around when we first asked. The next day we got them, but the ironing board was a small dorm-size ironing board that one sets on a bed to iron.
5. Beds are very uncomfortable. Double sized, not queen sized.
6. We paid extra for a "deluxe" room by the pool. Our room was at the end of the building, mostly overlooking the parking lot.
What we liked: the pool, the location, the quaintness of the place

We stayed on the second floor near the elevator with a great view of I-4 at sunset from our porch. :) The room had all the makings of mid-century motel experience, but surprising everything was very clean, the bed was super comfy and the room was really large and comfortable for me, my husband and toddler. There was enough room to set up a Pack-n-Play and the curtains made the room really dark and cozy. The TV had every channel you could imagine. The location was really convenient if you're traveling via I-4 and also want to be in Downtown Lakeland. We were there for the Orange Cup Regatta and the facility was packed. It was so nice to wake up early and walk to IHOP for pancakes. Really completed the experience. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Overall we were pleased. I do think the price was a little high for Lakeland. We did not get room service. There are many restaurants and good shopping in the vicinity. We also did not have a chance to experience the pool.

Room Tip: Second floor was nice. The porches are nice, but the view includes I-4. Interior rooms would be more...

This hotel was fairly inexpensive for the time frame that we stayed there - we were there for a large aviation event taking place at the local airport. We arrived late in the evening and check in was tedious as our room keys would not open the door. After three times of going down to the desk to get the keys activated again (because the clerk said we deactivated the cards somehow each time) the third time trying to open the door, an elderly gentleman opened it from the inside wondering why we were trying to get into his room. They had booked us into a room that was occupied. When I went back to the desk, she didn't believe me. Once she realized her mistake, she was very apologetic. The hotel itself is old, which isn't necessarily a bad thing; however, our room was not as clean as I would have preferred. The reviews that I read before booking the room seemed to reflect a decent clean hotel. Not the case with our room. The carpet was very dirty, bottom of our socks were black after walking around the room for the night. The bathroom and tub area could have used a more thorough cleaning as there was left over hair present. The room smelled musty as well. The bed was comfortable and appeared to be clean, but with the condition of the rest of the room, I did wonder if the linens were as clean as they should be. The hotel is right next door to an IHOP, which is convenient since the continental breakfast consisted of prepackaged muffins and two types of dry cereal. The juice machine was out of order but they did have a purchased bottle of juice that sat un-chilled on the counter. We stayed for two nights. Next year when we go back - we will book a more expensive and hopeful much cleaner hotel. This hotel would be great for a quick overnight stop when you do not want to spend a lot of money; but, when you are there for more than a night - look for something that will yield a more comfortable stay.
