Kilwin's wound up being a stop of pure joy for our family. We sampled several kinds of fudge and took some with us, and you can watch them make it there. Then we had cones piled high with their homemade ice cream... delicious! That day at Kilwin's, I had a cultural revelation: I grew up in the US but now live in Canada and have also lived about 11 years in Europe. Often especially Europeans would say to me that there is no food that is "truly American". Well, that day in Kilwin's, I was transported back to my childhood of ice cream cones by the beach in summertime, fudge by the beach... it's something I certainly never have access to in my daily life at home in Canada, nor did I in Europe. For travellers from abroad seeking a truly "American" experience, stop in at Kilwin's for a homemade WAFFLE cone (not just any old ice cream cone) with homemade ice cream. They also have all kinds of sweets and chocolates they make themselves. To top it all off, they gave my 2 year-old a helium balloon to take away, which made his day!
