This was our first time at Lauderdale By The Sea and at this hotel. We were a family of four adults and a grandchild who is not quite two years old. We had room 115 and 117 which were adjoining. The rooms directly faced the ocean and the pool and had a full kitchen and living room and dining room. We couldn't have been happier with the rooms, the vicinity and the management. Everything we needed was a short walk away. We stayed here prior to cruising out of Fort Lauderdale and it is not too far of a shuttle ride from the airport. We had a great time at this hotel and would definitely go back and refer our family and friends. One thing that needs to be addressed in the rooms are the air conditioners. They are not kept very clean. We thought that there was mold on one of them but it was just a build up of dirt and grime. Other than that, it was great

We stayed with Lily, the manager, for the 3th time in a row and we loved it. The resort has all kind of rooms with or without kitchen, small or large, whatever you need.
You live directly on the beach and the pool is really nice and warm.
Restaurants, Publix, Walgreens in walking distance.
Every morning we got a newspaper. Rooms were all tidy and clean. The maid does a great job.
Would not recommend this place (Lauderdale by the Sea that is) for people with children. Mostly elderly couples and the surf is pretty rough. Watch out for riptides. No life guard on duty in this town.
We will be back.

Location was fantastic! Friendly staff (and guests!) Spacious room with most everything you could need. Room was dated, but was fine since we were constantly in and out from the beach and pool. Nice walk to everything in town and beach was close (right outside our door) and clean. Wonderful to have towels and beach chairs provided. Quick maintenance and a newspaper every morning! Only thing I have a complaint about is detail cleaning (under bed, bed frame, glass on pictures) could be done more often. Looking forward to going back!

We have going to Southern Seas (formerly Souter's) once or twice a year for well over 10 years. Each time we pull up to the resort we feel as if we have arrived home. The location in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is perfect...a very short walk to terrific restaurants and little shops. It is directly on the ocean with a fantastic view of sunrises and a lovely pool that is very private and extremely well maintained. The town also keeps the beach very clean and does a sweep of the sand every morning. The resort itself is peaceful, and as my husband says, we look forward to our 10 day visit every September because we "fly down and plop." In addition to the restaurants there is a Publix and CVS within walking distance. The resort itself is clean and a nice size, not one of the high rises that are located in surrounding towns. The entire staff is super...compliments to Rae and Jackie who fill in for Lily who is a terrific manager. She is so competent and takes care of anything we may ask right away. Her smile is a ray of sunshine on even a cloudy day. Through the years we have become acquainted with some of the owners of a few of the units and just love the friendly atmosphere. We always feel welcome and relaxed. Located just north of Ft. Lauderdale, we frequently drive in there for dinner and have found many restaurants that we love especially in the Las Olas area. However, after dinner we are always happy to return to our peaceful room on the ocean. I am also a big walker and love walking the "Galt Mile" in the morning watching the sun come up. Obviously from the length of this review I cannot say enough good things about Southern Seas so...head on down and give it a try, you will love it!

The (second floor one bedroom, 2 bathroom condo, with sleeper sofa) condo was great, it was a lot more space than we are used to having when we visit LBTS. It was well equipped, tons of windows to enjoy awesome views. Our first sign of trouble was when the 2 chairs directly in front of our walk out patio door were used as the smoking area by the couple in the next condo (they had the beach front condo with wall to wall views of the beach, which meant they didn't have a balcony). While yes, this is a common area, as everyone can walk past everyone else's condos, just imagine sitting enjoying the view, when someone suddenly sits down 2 feet in front of your second story patio door and lights up :( We solved the problem, the second day, by removing the ashtray (after we checked with the Manager that it was okay), unfortunately there were LOTS of smokers at the resort, so it didn't matter where you went, they were able to smoke anywhere outside, including the pool area (not great for families). We met some very nice people who are regulars, they love the place, and assured us the weekend we experienced, was not the "norm" for this place, and they were as disappointed as we were with staying here for the weekend. Unfortunately a VERY large VERY loud & aggressive family rented a few of the condos for a local family get together, and decided the place was their own personal party pad. They took all the pool loungers on the Saturday, we managed to get a table to sit at, but they were so loud and obnoxious that my kids weren't comfortable hanging out there. The evening was a pool party for them with beers (in glass bottles) all around the pool, and every pool toy there was in the pool. (Sunday morning one of the guests picked up the left over beer bottles, and my husband fished the beer caps out of the deep end. Since the cleaning/maintenance staff is off on Sundays, the spilled drinks (tomato juice based) had to wait until Monday to be cleaned up.) Sunday morning started off better, some of the other guests/families were able to get a few loungers, and the large group was a bit better about sharing the pool at first. Unfortunately when the other guests got up from their loungers to swim, some of the men from the large/local group came and sat in them (assuming the loungers were theirs, even though other people's towels and shoes were there). The pool has some steps for easy access, unfortunately the large group's children wouldn't move to allow the elderly lady to use them to enter the pool. Sunday afternoon we finally managed to get some loungers under a tree by the pool. While not ideal, at least the tree provided some shade. While part of their group was at the beach, it was a nice quiet half hour (that the regulars assured us was what the resort was normally like) but it was short lived. When the large/local group returned, they announced it with a cannon ball by one of the grown men into the pool, landing directly in front of me, splashing our towels/books and my daughters e-reader. You could see disapproval from some of the seniors in their group/and smirks from others...
We left for the beach (which is beautiful) and returned to find the loungers had been moved from under the tree, and now this group had set up their card playing area in that spot. This would have been fine, if they'd given up a different area, or some of the loungers under the umbrellas. Unfortunately, this was not so. The table we used the day before was available, but only one chair remained, as the others had been moved to the large/local groups other areas. All in all, the long weekend was not an enjoyable experience. The resort itself was great, the convenience of a fully equipped condo, beach towels, and beach loungers were fantastic, I may consider staying there again, if it was mid week. But now that we know large families use it as a weekend hang out, we will not stay here again over a weekend.

We stayed at Southern Seas July 29th through August 1st and enjoyed our time there very much.
Check-in on Friday afternoon was very smooth. Rae (?sp) was very courteous and well-prepared. All the documents were ready for us to sign and even our parking pass was printed prior to our arrival.
We stayed in unit #13. The living room was spacious and had a sofabed. The kitchen was also spacious and fully equipped. They even had a K-cup brewer, aside from a regular coffeemaker. There were two flat-screen tvs and two alarm clock/radios with Ipod dock (one in bdrm; one in livingrm). There is a separate bedroom with two queen beds and a private bathroom. The beds were a little too firm for my taste, but they were okay.

The pool is small, but is comparable to all the other hotels/motels in the Lauderdale by the Sea area. It was clean, warm and lighted at night. There are complimentary beach loungers and beach towels for use in the pool area as well as the beach. I liked that they would set the clean towels on a bench outside the office, so it's hassle-free.

The location is great. There is a Publix and a CVS about 3 blocks away, which was really convenient. On two separate days, we walked over to the pier (2 blocks south). It's only $2 for sightseeing and you can sit on the benches and enjoy the breeze. There is also a Kilwin's (chocolate and icecream shop) one block from the pier.

The only thing I wouldn't recommend this place for is families with small children. My children didn't accompany me on this trip, so it was great for us. But if they had, I may have felt a little uncomfortable because it is a very quiet and calm atmosphere. I imagine I would have to constantly remind them to use their "inside voices," lol.

This was my first time at Southern Seas and I can't wait to go back.

If you want to relax with sun & surf at your doorstep this is the place. Oceanfront efficiency #19 has an obstructed view to die for! Small hotel, quaint, welcoming, our room was very large and comfortable. Great to have full kitchen and beatifully tiled shower and bathroom.

Travelled with a bunch of couples all staying at same resort and felt like we owned the place or at least wished we did!

Room Tip: Great photos on their website of every room/unit.
