We just spent a wonderfully relaxing week at Cornet-Haut. There is so much to see and do in the area, but coming back each day to our lovely cabin in the woods was bliss, made even better by the beautiful pool area with lovely countryside views and the hospitality of the owners Fanny, Alan and their lovely family. They couldn't have been more helpful, but in a very unobtrusive way. We felt truly at home and although we did a lot of sightseeing by car and cycling locally we left feeling totally relaxed.
The cabin was very clean and well equipped and even though we were the furthest away from the pool, it was a lovely short stroll to the pool and table-tennis area. The kids enjoyed the pool and exploring in the woods near the cabin. I loved the fact that the cars were left near the main house so it was so quiet at the cabin that you could hear the crickets sing, while lazing in the hammocks under the trees ...as if we needed to chill any more than we were already!!
If you are looking for a beautiful place to stay in Dordogne I wouldn't hesitate. The village nearby of St Pompom is charming and you can walk and cycle for hours and just leave the car behind.

1 review Our stay was in Jun 2014 when Le Saule had just been renovated. The chalets have everything you need for a self-catering holiday, and although compact our family of 6 were very comfortable. We loved the peace and quiet of the place and our children particularly enjoyed spending time in the forest and chilling in the hammocks - it was a perfectly relaxing holiday. The pool, tennis court, bikes and play area were a big hit with the children and we were made to feel very welcome by the hosts. The local village of Saint Pompon is lovely and only a short walk away. All in all a super holiday!

We stayed for a week in August in one of the cabins. The setting is really lovely, and the kids loved the pool, tennis and table tennis. There are DVDs to borrow and washing machines to use. Wifi works near the main house. Walking distance to a sweet village with a fun night market in the summer. The near by villages have some excellent restaurants but the self catering facilities are good too. There were a lot of mosquitoes this summer, so we used plugs in the bedrooms and burnt coils on the patio in the evenings. The location is great, close to the river for canoeing and castles. The kids bunk bedroom was very small and if we'd had bad weather or stayed longer than a week I think we'd have felt on top of each other rather. I thought the 40 euro cleaning fee was on the high side given the size of the cabin but you can clean it yourself if you're not as lazy as me!

Our hosts, Franny and Alan, were very gracious and helpful. As it was our first visit to the Dordogne, we asked for recommendations for dining and sightseeing and their advice was perfect. They also made reservations for use and called for hours of opening on sights. They offer great value here with delightful cabins in the trees,, the free use of good bicycles, a very nice pool and a very peaceful rural location well situated for reasonable drives to many caves, chateaus and delightful villages. The village of St. pompon is very small with a bakery, Butcher and convenience store and one restaurant which has limited hours but where we had an excellent dinner
