This place is so over priced. I would recommend staying somewhere else. It's an old building and the pool is old and packed and it's just old and you an stay so many better places for the money. It's only worth paying under $200 nt and that's being generous. The only plus is you get a kitchenette but for the price ditch that and go somewhere more beautiful and new and have someone serve you at an upscale luxury resort. For the same price!!!

We visited Longboat Key Club & Resort during a mid-week in early June 2012. We stayed in a club suite which is a one room studio with a king sized bed and sofa sleeper. We were located in Building 2 which had a great view of the gulf and was convenient to the pool, the beach, the main restaurant and lobby. Self- parking was plentiful and was close to the suite. It was clear from everyone we talked to that coming midweek was great since the resort was not full, so there were no crowds anywhere in the resort. The suite was clean and reasonably well kept, not modern but adequate, with a nice view of the pool and beach.

The hotel is in an outstanding location at the south end of Longboat Key, which puts it just a few minutes drive from Lido Key and Saint Armands Circle, and only 12 minutes drive to Sarasota. Our own view is that Saint Armands is fun to walk around but the restaurants are overpriced and overcrowded. Take the short drive over to Sarasota and you will find countless restaurants with great food, better prices, and far less crowds off the tourist beaten path.

The beach at the resort is spectacular, with crystal clear, aquamarine water with many shades of green and blue. There was a little seaweed on the beach which did not get cleaned during our stay, but once in the water it was no problem. The water was bathtub warm in the 80s, with beautiful white sand. During our stay we saw turtle tracks in the sand from the night before, where eggs were laid, and a turtle nest blocked off so tourists wouldn't walk on it.

There was a watersports kiosk on the beach, which did not offer a lot of alternatives (eg., no jet-skis or parasailing), but the workers were very nice.

The pool at the resort was clean enough but mediocre in both size and appearance, in need of being refurbished after many years. We were amazed that so many tower buildings would all have to use this one tiny pool! The pool was fairly crowded even during a midweek stay where the resort was not close to being filled, we can't imagine how packed it would be during a crowded weekend.

From the outside the resort buildings were unimpressive concrete structures, nothing special, but in fairly good condition for a hotel of this age. The resort grounds were clean with some palmettos but we were disappointed at the lack of flowers, coconut palms, or other landscaping that other properties have.

Food was good and service excellent, overpriced but typical for a resort of this type.

Golf course looked beautiful and tennis courts excellent.

In summary, this is a big, 3 star resort which has a spectacular beach. If you are going for the beach, by all means you will enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: Rooms in Building 2 are close to the pool and beach

My wife and i recently returned here for our anniversary. We have also visited this property several times over the past ten years. So we are very familiar with LBK club.

First the good stuff - we had a romantic private dinner on the beach. The food came from the main restaurant in the hotel. Quality was excellent, menu was very appealing. The service was also above average. we were quite pleased with the dining experience and i would rate it a 4.5 out of 5.0.

The rooms were also very clean and have great views of the Gulf. They are pretty average in terms of decor/appearance.

The issue is really the accomodating, or lack there of, nature of the staff. My wife has had several issues with multiple charges (amounting to over $500) that they kind of shrug off and say "call AMEX" for detail. Also, we have been trying to take a group there next January/Feb and cannot even get a call back from the sales office (3 messages) - and that is after taking several groups there over the years representing 100k plus in revenue.

Bottom line - service could be an issue, restaruant is good. might be better choices in the area.

Room Tip: ask for rooms facing gulf of mexico. several buildings - 4 is probably the best one.

We just got back from 4 nights at the resort. The staff was very attentive and our room was spotless. We love the beach service as it all comes with the cost of the room.We stayed in Bldg # 2 and it was very quiet there. It overlooked the pool with a view of the ocean. We ate Breakfast every morning here and it was Great. We ate our dinners elsewhere as there are so many choices nearby. Great area for 4 day vacation.

Room Tip: At least 4th floor or higher

wi-fi is a problem....! must be solved! the room was never cleaned properly......, but it might be just the odd cleaning-lady.... third problem is the lack of sun on the balcony of the rooms in block 3! the resto is beautiful.... just the food is dreadfuland the cocktails even worse :-(
but on the whole....very nice!! just go out for dinner

I just came back from Longboat Key (May 26-28). The place is very nice, the rooms are like any average room at a resort (unless you get the suite, which is quite lovely). I must insist that you RENT A CAR if you stay at this hotel. The price of food is ridiculous!!!! Pina Colada's cost $12 (after they add the gratiuity in, which is added to EVERYTHING). Also, everything is added onto your room card, so if a person is not paying attention by the end of your stay you can have a monstrous bill. That's why I HIGHLY recommend getting a rental, so you can go off site to other restaurants in the area as well as buying groceries (if you have a family, you can SAVE big time). I will give credit where credit is due, the staff was very friendly and accomodating.
