“Amazing views”
Reviewed 19 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Spent 5 nights in this very modern cabin. Last place on the east side near "the Motion" (a Rick formation you can walk you 5 minutes. Cabin is well equipped with everything you need. Wonderful wraparound porch overlooking town and the water. Huge front windows. We even had humpbacks swimming practically in front of our door for a couple of days. Lots of opportunities for great walks in the area. Grates Cove is close to Baie de Vert with some great views and historical sites. Don't miss the Baccalieu Island Viewing Trail in nearby Red Head Cove. make sure to go to the end for the view. While Motion Retreat is at the very end of the road, it's a great jumping off point for day trips.

“Highlight of Our Trip”
Reviewed 18 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

My husband and I spent three days here in mid-June. What a wonderful start to our ten day Nfld holiday. Our hostess couldn't have been kinder and the accommodations were top notch with magnificent views out over the Atlantic. We have been to Nfld twice before, but had not been to this area. We took several hikes, one of which ended in a magnificent view out over Baccalieu Island.

“Breathtaking views”
Reviewed 13 July 2016 for a stay in May 2016

It was in a fabulous location, had breathtaking views of the sun string over Trinity Bay. It was all really comfortable and we enjoyed our walk to an excellent dinner at Grate's Cove Studio.
All in all - excellent value for money.

“One of the best in Canada”
Reviewed 5 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

What an absolute treat! Secluded spot (but a few houses nearby) with the most amazing views we have seen since being in Canada. The cottage was immaculate, provided everything we needed and wish we could have stayed longer than two nights. If you want to de-stress from a busy work life then this is the place for you! We captured some amazing photos and recommend getting up a little realier to view/shoot the sunrise, especially when there is an iceberg coasting past.
We got our provisions from Carbonear including some fresh cod, halibut and frozen scallops.
Also great service from Bonnie.

“Lovely Cottage, Gorgeous Views”
Reviewed 17 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We had a wonderful stay at The Motion Retreat. The house is fairly newly done, spotless, and well equipped. There is a porch that goes around 3 sides of the house and magnificent views. If the weather is chilly and dreary as it was for much of our stay, do not worry. The large picture windows in the living area give you the same wonderful views. We managed to sit out on the deck a couple of late afternoons and just picked the side that was protected from the wind that particular day! If traveling to that area again I would not hesitate to rent The Motion Retreat again!! Highly recommend.

“Ideal Artist/Writer's Retreat Location”
Reviewed 17 June 2016 for a stay in August 2014

I can't say enough about my stay in Grates Cove. I was there for a month of writing in perfect seclusion. The small cottage was fully equipped and immaculately clean. The view is just as pictured, breathtaking and magnificent. An retreat house with an excellent restaurant and local live events is just a 10 minute walk up the road. Grates is FULL of magic!

“Wish we could have stayed longer!”
Reviewed 23 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We only had a couple of nights to get away, and we are so glad that we picked the Motion Retreat. We had to stay in St. John's the first night because we arrived late, but once we got to the cottage, we instantly felt what we wanted to feel this vacation - peace.

We have high standards when it comes to the places we stay, and this surpassed them. It was extremely private, clean, the kitchen was fully stocked, the bathroom had everything we needed, and there was a washer and dryer so we could refresh the few clothes we brought for our trip.

The view was incredible. All we did was sit on the deck or inside and stare at the view. It was - hands down, the quietest and most peaceful place we've stayed at in Newfoundland. If you want quiet and relaxation, this is the place for you.
