“Best Wave Runners in Madeira!”
Reviewed 28 April 2014 via mobile

On our last trip to Madeira we were determined to do a wave runner (jet ski, sea-do, whatever you choose to call it) rental and did plenty of research since the rentals are a dime a dozen. We finally came across Woody's and it was clear we made the right choice!

We got booked with no trouble, and for the best rate we'd found on the pass. Woody is an honest guy and his rates are fair and simple, you'll see some places are set on up selling you or aren't transparent about all the fees, not these guys! If you're under 25 you need to fill out a quick safety test for a temporary license. It costs $3 (per attempt) so be sure to read their safety sheet thoroughly before writing it. Not terribly difficult. If you can't pass, you really shouldn't be renting. All the rest was standard waivers and they only require a credit card number, not an actual hold.

Nate got us set up on the actual wave runners. He had a great attitude and always made sure we had a great time while being safety conscious and informative. He gave us a thorough overview and made sure we were familiar with all the features and operations. It was our first time and we felt very comfortable using them.

We got the 130hp models and they had plenty of kick! Be sure to be courteous and alert to other boaters especially in the channel. Keep you speed down until you're in the gulf and be mindful of the swimming areas, they are patrolled.

Once we were out though, we had an amazing time! Such a rush! We were just ripping across the water and were very impressed with how much power they had. Easy enough to control and very responsive controls. In our hour, we made it south to the boundary point about a mile down, then north all the way the 6 miles up to the pier and back. That brought us back just about at the hour marker. If you go all the way to the pier, make sure you leave enough time.

I have sunglasses designed for use on the water and even they had a hard time standing up to the waves. Don't know what I would have done without them though! If you plan on getting any high speeds, bring glasses. Though we saw some couples come back without a drop on them, to each their own!

One thing I can't emphasize enough: if you don't apply power, you don't have any directional control! Be careful maneuvering in/out of the dock or around others as you need to give it power to steer. We saw several close calls because of this.

Overall, highly recommend you visit Woody and Nate, you won't regret it! Great value, great experience, lots of fun!

We also bought one of their t-shirts for Grandpa, so he's now giving them some free advertising in his nice yellow shirt!

Thanks again guys!

“Best place for renting wave runners!”
Reviewed 3 April 2014

We spent time in Treasure Island in May of 2013 (within walking distance of Madeira Beach and John's Pass). We knew we wanted to rent wave runners while we were there. After a LOT of research, we happened upon Woody's Watersports. Things we liked about Woody: #1, He's real. He doesn't try to 'sell' you and use gimmicks to pull you in like other rental places. #2: He is reasonable! Compared to other places, he is better priced. #3: He is personable. I ended up calling him from our home in Wisconsin before we left to make a reservation, and he was up front and very easy to talk to. He also has a great sense of humor.

You wont regret renting from Woody! The best part was when my husband and son got to run into a small school of dolphins out in the bay. Within 5 feet of 3 dolphins playing...made their first wave runner experience extra special!

“so glad we decided to try it”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

Our son (15) wanted to try this, and we were glad we did. Met Woody (the owner) while we were visiting Johns Pass, he was great. Gave us some info, wasn't pushy at all. We looked it up online and saw good reviews, so booked one morning. He was there, son had to do a test to get a boaters permit, but it didn't take long. Husband and I shared a jetski, son drove his own. Had a great time, so glad we decided to try it. Only problem was coming back in, son came in at a bit of an angle (said I distracted him taking photos), and harder to steer when you don't use the throttle, so he ended up knocking into a neighboring wharf. Gave us a fright, but he was fine - the side mirror on the jetski was not. It didn't cost much to replace, (there was a list posted, I guess this thing can happen, but the owner went online and looked up the price for that particular machine, and charged us much less than the posted cost). So we were happy with that. He joked with my son about it costing $1000.00, but son didn't realize it was a joke, it was later at lunch that he realized it was only $40.00. Good lesson for when he gets his drivers permit later this month!

“Great Time, Good Folks”
Reviewed 25 February 2014

Woody and Michael were fantastic. My daughter and her husband rented one ski for one hour and Woody let them split the time. While they were out on the water Woody made a point of talking with my wife and me. He is a really nice guy with a great sense of humor. When you leave Woody's on your ski you go out of the bay, under a draw bridge, out into the Gulf. My daughter got to see three dolphins while on her ride. Both of the kids (in their forties) said the ski was very fast and neither got it up to full speed. There were wet suits available, but the kids didn't use them. Other than four steps to get from the dock to the ski Woody's is accessible for wheel chairs, etc.

“Fun activity at Madeira Beach”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

Our grandchildren aged 15 and 9 along with their Grandpa really enjoyed their jet ski experience! Woody's was thorough in their orientation and we felt very secure in the safety of the gear. The hour fee was more affordable than we had expected. Definitely a highlight of our beach getaway!
