“A Little Overgrown, but Worth the Effort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2013

Access to this boardwalk is now by paved road, although it is very narrow with brush growing out onto the roadway. What makes this interesting is the signs along the entire length of the boardwalk pointing out the different flora and fauna, however it was a little disappointing that it was so overgrown, Be careful of the poison ivy which has grown up onto the boardwalk in some places.

We saw several species of birds, as well as an alligator, and a very bedraggled raccoon which stared at us curiously as he crossed the boardwalk to go back into the swamp. We did find a huge spider, that we came a little too close to! We also saw several spots in the sand where a snake had slithered by.

There are a few sheltered benches to stop and rest, including at the water overlook.

“This was probably great once upon a time!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2013 via mobile

My dad and son and I came here, looking for wading birds on a sunny but chilly March afternoon. It really isn't a nature center anymore (lost its funding, maybe?) but only a 1/2 mile boardwalk. It is a really nice walk, though, with descriptive plaques along the route. There wasn't much bird life to be seen, even once we reached the overlook at the water, but we did see a gopher tortoise, a bunch of large crabs, and an armadillo.

All in all, it's definitely worth a look. It's free and very peaceful, and on a warmer day there would probably be a ton of critters to see.

“Good bird watching”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2012

Enjoyed the boardwalk. Good info on local flora and fauna for us northerners. Saw interesting birds and a gator. Beginning of boardwalk is well hidden. It's to the right of the building. Take a dirt path aroun to the back.
