“Fantastic! Kids Love It! Handicap Accessible!”
Reviewed 13 August 2011

We were looking for a trip to cash in some Marriott points and were planning on staying at the Marriott Marco Island Resort. We waited until the last minute to book the trip and were surprised to see the Crystal Shores show up as reward eligible. Based on the size of our party and the room size we saw in pics, we booked this instead of the Resort.

What a blessing and awesome time! We had four adults and three children. One of the adults was in a wheelchair and needed a roll-in shower. You always have to be careful with "handicap accessible" but this room met our needs and gave our handicap adult plenty of space to roll around.

Check in was easy, the tour we received from Richard was fantastic. The balcony of the room was phenomenal. We were in room 401 which had a wrap-around balcony so we looked straight at the beach and then could see one of the pools. We met a very friendly guest that was a Marriott Vacation Club member and she said that the rooms were slightly smaller than other Vacation Clubs, but I couldn't tell. It was plenty big for us and much bigger than staying in a regular Marriott room. And did I mention the view????

Our boys loved the waterslide. They must have ridden it 50+ times! It was fast! The staff was engaging and very friendly. Plenty of activities and my boys loved that they could check out a game from the Kids Room.

We would definitely stay here again! We didn't know much about Marco Island, but we left very impressed how family friendly it was and look forward to coming back some time soon.

I stayed here for a girl's trip and it was very nice. I would certainly return. The facilities are clean and the decor is fun. My favorite part of the villa was the balcony. Fantastic. The beds were comfortable and I liked having a washer/dryer in the villa. I didn't find the living room furniture to be very comfortable and I wasn't impressed with the on-site restaurant. Overall it was a great place to stay.

Overall, this resort is still a work in progress. It is not at the same level as other Marriott Vacation Club resorts. The parking lot is limited in size and you may need to walk a decent distance to the elevators (after passing through two pool security gates- not easy to do when carrying bags). There are only two elevators for a 14 story building and you have to wait for them to arrive. To be fair, the individual units are amazing. Marble counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and an awesome master shower with multiple heads are just some of the nice features. The pools are nice and the beach is a short work over the dunes. I know Marriott is out to make money, but would it kill them to give out the popcorn for free during a dive-in movie (near the pool).

Our family had a great time at Marriott Crystal Shores, but not quite a 5 star rating...
- All staff were OVERLY gracious and accommodating. They stopped whatever they were doing to ensure our needs were met, or we were just pleasantly greated.
- The rooms immaculate, view was spectacular, sunsets beyond words.
- Loved the two huge pools, waterslide, and pool side entertainment.
- The onsite restaurant is among the best on the island, but definitely overpriced. There should be an onsite option for reasonable priced lunch and happy hour.
- The room is not the typical layout for Marriott timeshare, so our two unit villa was more of a suite...no lock off second unit. No in room jacuzzi tub, and no warning ahead (so I am sadly bringing my bath salts home un-used.)
- Unfortunately so many things here all come at an extra cost...like daily tidy service....$30/day is too high for this... they didn't do that much, I cancelled that service by end of week and did my own light housekeeping.
- The furniture in the den really needs to be revamped... only one sofa... rest are hard back chairs, difficult for the whole family to comfortably sit and lounge, watch a movie.
- Beach fun was great, but again...you pay for everything....chairs, umbrellas should be gratis for owners..
- We asked for a referral for a massage and were provided a brochure for a high end spa down the road, where the lowest cost option was $185/hour... way out of our price range...and so we did some Yelping and found that right across the street/walking distance was MaiLee Nails & Spa...and they were SO NICE!! My daughter and I had great massages, then went back for Manicure/Pedicure before we left. All of those treatments for less than the price of one massage at the other place. Would have been nice for Marriott to share that info with us.
- One of the best things we did was to opt locally for waverunners at Captain Ron's Tours...www.evergladesjetskitours.com .. This was the highlight of our whole trip, the tour was a combination of a high end wave runner experience and nature tour through the maze of glorious mangrove islands. They totally blew us away when they snapped away over 200 digital photos and then gave us FREE CDs with a gallery of memories ... priceless!!! It's only a shame that the hotel didn't refer us to Capt Ron's group...would have saved us all that researching time. Actually might have changed my review from a 3 star to a 4 star.

Room Tip: not sure there are a lot of options

Crystal Shores is a great place to stay. We've been to Marco many times. This was our 2nd time staying at the Marriott Crystal Shores. Both times we had a great time in a fantastic place. The Marriott is super clean and the staff is very helpful and nice. Location is perfect. Many places to eat right across the street. Beach is clean. Pools were perfect. Family/kid pool was perfect for my 5 and 7 year old boys. They loved the water slide! The other pool is nice if you want to get away from splashing kids. We stayed in a 2 bedroom. Beautifully furnished with plenty of space. The fitness room has great equipment, but is small. Overall we love it! Will definately stay again!

First of all, this hotel is only 2 years old, so it is immaculate. The villa's are huge and have more than you need. The decor is very comfortable, yet modern. The pools are both very different, but both enjoyable. There are lots of activities for kids to participate in (and some for adults too). The staff is all exceptional!

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms. All have at least a partial gulf view.

Beautiful place - open, airy and great staff. Can't give it a 5 because the on-site restaurant was not good and overpriced. But the shopping center right across the street had awesome spots to eat. Great balconies with clear plexiglass so you can relax and see everything.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't gat a room by the recycle bins or the trash - they could be noisy!
