Smoothies everyday by the pool or beach for free at 3! Rooms and hotel are very nice with a luxurious feel. Pool is small, but gets the job done! Loved that they had beach chairs for free on the beach!

I am finally reviewing our stay at Marco Beach Ocean Resort in January 2014. We were choosing between Caribbean islands (e.g., Turks and Caicos, Grand Cayman) and Florida and decided to try out this hotel based on rankings and reviews. With a family of three, we stayed four nights and came back very satisfied.

Arrival
Concierge was very responsive and arranged a pickup at the airport. The front desk people were friendly and check-in was very smooth.

Room
We stayed in one-bed-room-suite on the 9th floor with a full Gulf/Beach view. Our suite was spacious with a nice living room with a good balcony. The bedroom was smallish with a king bed. The beach view was very nice but because of the distance from the building to the beach, not all the guests would find the view overwhelming. The room was clean even though the carpet was a little warn out. Wi-Fi was smooth and fast. It was very quiet the whole time we stayed. A few minor inconveniences included:

Sofa bed was not comfortable.
Chest drawer was very small and the layout is very odd. It is difficult to use.
Safety box was embedded on the wall, had no depth, and was also inconvenient.

Overall, we liked our room, but we hope the hotel takes care of a few shortcomings in the future.

Food
The website shows several restaurants, but in reality it is just one kitchen and thus basically the same menu served at different locations within the resort. The food quality was very good. Breakfast on the terrace was very relaxing with attentive servers. Side fruit was like a main dish. But egg dishes did not seem to be their forte. Dinner was surprisingly good, and we loved tuna tartar.

Beach
Beach was very nice and was not too crowded when we visited.

Sauna, steam room, spa
Sauna and steam rooms were available at no additional costs to the guests. They were very clean and no one else was using the facility when I was there.

Activities on the facility
This resort is not a great destination for those who expect a full range of fun-filled activities. Much better suited for guests who like to relax in a peaceful and quiet place.

Neighborhood
Small shopping mall was within 5 minute walk. Very spacious clothing store for swim/summer clothes.

All in all, when you like to relax at a beach, but get turned off by how crowded some destinations become (struggle to get beach chairs?!) and $1,000 per night bills, you may want to try out Marco Beach Ocean Resort.

This hotel is beautiful and in great location however we ran into countless issues the entire stay. We were put on the 7th floor and the refrigerator was broken, they replaced the fridge THREE time in one night and none of them worked- all of our food we bought went bad. Not only that but the rug was completely soaked and smelled of mildew. We spoke to the front desk manager and she moved us to a higher floor with a better view. She also comped us on valet parking for the week (but we were still out all of our groceries that we bought). The minute we walked into the new room I noticed toothpaste smeared against the walls and crumbs all over the floor- poor housekeeping. The new room was good for a few days and then the AC unit started leaking leaving puddles of water on the floor that I slipped on. We told the front desk about the issue, they sent an engineer to fix it but the problem kept happening EVERY SINGLE DAY. It was a constant problem every day with our room.

The front desk staff and concierge were very friendly and helpful. However, all the other staff were HORRIBLE. The valet guys had attitudes every time we asked for our car and were not friendly AT ALL, you could see that they hated their jobs. The male staff at the beach were rude and were creepishly looking at younger girls and making sexual comments. COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE.

The pool is a joke. Every time I tried to go they had no towels available. I couldn't even swim because there were so many kids and they allow kids to have all sorts of water toys- from spray guns to huge blow up toys.

To say the least I will never return to this resort which is sad because it has so much potential. It was the least relaxing vacation I have ever had. And I have no idea how this resort was given a four diamond rating. I have worked at beach resorts and Disney hotels for years and this is by far the worst service I have EVER experienced and would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Thank you for your recent visit to the Marco Beach Ocean Resort and for taking the time to provide us with your valuable feedback. Please allow me to address your concerns.

I regret that the refrigerator had to be replaced on several occasions and that the air conditioner was leaking. I will share this review with our engineering team. As far as the room you were moved to having toothpaste smeared on the wall, we will address this with our housekeeping team.

Lastly, I truly apologize for your experience with the beach and valet attendants. As you pointed out there seem to have been multiple service issues.

We do take all feedback seriously as it only allows us to become a better resort. Your comments and observations are appreciated.

Let me start by saying we have had a superb week! Marco Beach Ocean Resort is an excellent mix of large apartments combined with all the amenities of a top hotel, a few hundred yards from a superb beach on the gulf coast.
It is a very looked after complex, perfectly manicured palm trees and plants making it feel very tropical! The service levels from the staff are extremely high, from the room maids, the door staff through to the guys on the beach - everyone can't do enough for you.
We stayed on the 5th floor with a garden and patio, and I have enjoyed spending my time sitting and eating out here (see picture). It is nearby to the pool, although you can't see it) and some TA reviews have moaned for lack of sea views. It was no issue for us at all.
The rooms are large and are well catered with a kitchenette area and a coffee maker which they provide fresh coffee bags for every day (nice touch). Large marbled bathroom with more towels provided every day than you really need, but nice anyway.
The awesome beach is a 5-6 minute walk from our door and it certainly is not a chore at all. The walk takes you via a palm tree lined path all the way to the beach.
When you get there you 'check in' with the guys down there and they take you to your sun beds for the day. They then provide a full menus service from the beach bar. Superb service - we did it for a couple of beach days. I can recommend the salads and my favourite frozen cocktail the Funky Monkey! Yes they do add a 18% gratuity on to the tab, but it saves taking money to the beach, and to be fair it is a brilliant service they provide!
If you drive here, note it is all valet parking. Surprisingly efficient, your car is delivered in a very timely manner when you present your ticket to the door guys. Obviously there is then the expense of a tip each time, so add that to your car cost calculations. Worth it though, if just for a week.
We didn't use the pools here at all so can't comment, we were happy on the beach, and with water temp at warm bath levels why wouldn't we?
We ate once at the hotel restaurant - the Sal Peppe - just for breakfast on the first morning. Great views from the balcony, but the food was more designer than wholesome. Of course it tasted nice, but over elaborate - for our breakfast tastes anyway. And it is on the expensive side as well.
In terms of places to visit - would recommend Captain Jacks airboat rides in Everglade City followed by lunch at City Seafood (make sure you have the key lime pie there!). Naples pier (at sunset particularly) is a must see, just chilling watching the fishermen catch many fish from it.
A place I would happily never go back to was Fort Myers beach. It is about a 2 hour drive from here, and it is more akin to tacky beach resort - Naples and Marco Island beaches are so much nicer.

We have thoroughly enjoyed the week here, it has been an excellent place to be based for a week on the gulf coast. One word of warning though, we were here at the end of June/beginning July - it is frigging hot!! 95 degrees in the shade every day (well into the hundreds in direct sun), which even with high factor sun creams got us a little burnt. The heat was intense and unforgiving, so if you don't like those sort of temperatures this isn't the place for you. Saying that, it isn't hard to work around it and enjoy mixing the air conditioning and the sunshine :-))

We traveled here in July of 2013 (old review, sorry).
We loved it. We thought it was great location, being close to the everglades and close to Naples. We enjoyed both of those very much.

We were there in the rainy season, but you can see it coming for quite a while before it starts. It isn't much of a bother. Just go to the beach early and when it comes about 3 o'clock, you can head in for a nap. Great room. Great beach.

Room Tip: We liked the bottom floor. Less of a view, but you can walk right out to the pool.
