I had a few photo assignments in the southern part of the US so my wife and I decided to make a mini-vacation out of my trip. In mid-March she flew down to Ft. Myers (about 45 minutes from Marco Island) with our 18-year old Goddaughter and I picked them up at the airport. We stayed in one of the units on the top (17th) floor of the Sea Winds and we couldn't have been happier with our stay here. Margaret, the very gracious and friendly owner, couldn't have been better to work with. She was super nice and mentioned to give her a call if we had any questions about anything.
The unit was beautifully furnished with two bedrooms and two full bathrooms and a separate laundry/storage room with a stacked washer/dryer. The master bedroom had a kingsize bed and flatscreen TV and an attached full bathroom. The master bedroom also had a huge patio door opening onto a full-width outdoor patio overlooking the Gulf and the beach 17 floors below. There was a table and four chairs on the patio for outdoor dining. This unit also had a second bedroom with two single beds and an attached full bathroom as well. The living room area had a nice couch, two nice chairs, a nice coffee table, a big flatscreen TV and a lamp. There is a full-width glass sliding patio door with a sliding screen door here as well, just like in the master bedroom. The unit also had wi-fi and it worked great. Even when I'm on "vacation" I usually end up working so that was a nice touch. The dining area had a nice round, glass table and four padded chairs, all of a nice wicker-style which was also the design of the living room furniture. The kitchen had a full-size refrigerator/freezer, four-burner stove and oven, microwave and full-size dishwasher.
The layout of the condo was perfect for the three of us. Our Goddaughter is 18 years old and she had her own bedroom and bathroom which worked out great. Needless to say, the view from the 17th floor balcony is to die for. There was some slight noise from the folks on the balcony in the adjacent unit late into the night on a couple of nights, but other than that it was soooo relaxing to listen to the waves through the screened patio door at night. The convience of having a laundry room in the unit and a full kitchen with a dishwasher was nice. Everything worked perfectly and things were pretty well stocked, athough we had to buy garbage bags, bathroom tissue, and dishwasher soap as there weren't any extras in the unit that we could find.
As an architect and architectural photographer who travels over 100 days a year, I can sometimes be a tough critic. I'm always thinking of what I would do differently with a room/condo/etc. But really, the only thing I would add to this unit would be some much-needed undercounter lighting in the kitchen, and especially an undercounter light above the stove. And, maybe another refrigerator where the doors open into the kitchen space instead of opening into the adjacent wall. Also, I'd maybe add another towel rack on the wall in the master bathroom as well as a robe hook on the back of the door and a wall-mounted hair dryer. That's really about it. That's a small list for me and I hesitate to even mention anything like that because of the great stay that we had here.
Really, you're here for the view and the unbeliveably convenient access to the adjacent beach and the great pool and hot tub and tennis courts, etc. There are enough restaurant choices and shopping choices within walking distance that you'll never want for something to eat or something to do. There was a closet in our unit with umbrellas and lawn chairs and beach towels, etc. That was a super nice touch.
I can't recommend the Sea Winds enough. I just hope that it doesn't become so popular that we can get "our room" again..
