It had Ben raining for 2 days in Marco Island and my hubby decided to give me the night off from cooking so we went across the street to try somewhere new. Toucans was completely empty upon our arrival which worried me a great deal as you think the food must be bad. Anyway we were greater at the entrance by a very nice waiter with a thick foreign accent, maybe French or something, never got his name. The place is large with cute Toucan fabric upholstered booths and tales with chairs. Our girls, 11 and 13 wanted a booth. We looked over the menu and after I told the family what other tripadvisor reviews had recommended we ordered. While we were waiting for our food the place suddenly starting to fill up. By the time we left (about 1.5 hours later there were about 12 tables of guests from 2 to 10 people at a table. There was still only one waiter and he did a great j;ob taking care of everyone in a timely manner. My hubby and I shared the fish tacos blackened and the Cousin Grouper Sandwich also blackened. Both were delicious. The fish was very fresh and the roll was also fresh. Mine came with coleslaw and it was nice and creamy. My 13 year old got the fish and chips which also came with the salad bar. She offered that part to her dad and he happily made a trip to it. It did not have much to offer but enough to keep him satisfied. Her fish was perfectly cooked with a crunchy batter and light melt in your mouth white fish. She didn't touch any of her chips as that was just too much fried food for her. It needed so dipping sauce just a touch of lemon squeezed on the pieces and yummy was it.

Our 11 year old unfortunately is at that age of being difficult when dining out so she just got a cup of the soup of the day, Beef and Vegetable. She did not like the beef but ate about 1/2 of the rest of it and said it was ok. My hubby and I tried it and it was very tasty.

All in all a nice night out with the kids and yes we would come back even though the poor water was worked off his feet and must have called in backup because as we were settling our bill another water had turned up and was helping with drinks.

The waiter was fun. We ate here for lunch and the shrimp were fresh and the fish tacos were awesome. We highly recommend this place.

We walking into Toucan's and immediately went inside because people were smoking on the patio area right at the door. It was a bit late and the place was pretty empty. One of our party had lots of allergies, so she had to ask them for special touches. They were really good at making sure she didn't get anything that she was allergic to, so much so that the salmon was rather tasteless. They had asked her if she would like it "blackened" and she said that would be nice. Well, she said it was blackened, like from being on the grill, not from seasoning. The server was very nice, though. It wasn't a bad experience, just not good enough to go again.

The food portions were generous, but on the whole somewhat flavorless and bland. The service was average. The decor is lacking in ambiance, and seems run down...Almost like its a hodge podge of different restaurant decors thrown together after a massive yard sale. The flooring is worn cracking and needs to be replaced. This place has a great location, too bad its a bit shabby and lack luster.

I was a little nervous when we first arrived at The Toucan. It looks like a college town party bar and probably not the cleanest. The waiter wasn't terribly friendly until tip time. On the upside the food was decent and the portions were fine. We were pleasantly surprised.
