“Teppanyaki place with good food”
Reviewed 4 April 2014

We have been coming to Marco Island for many years, but haven't ever tried the Tokyo Inn previously. Our granddaughter likes Japanese food (particularly teppanyaki style), so we visited with her. We weren't disappointed. Our chef was good and entertaining. I have a seafood allergy so he cooked the shrimp last on the grill. Prices were reasonable and the food was a good quality.

“Try the Mt. Fugi roll! ”
Reviewed 17 February 2014 via mobile

We stopped by this little restaurant at the last minute and we are sure glad we did! Our family is full of sushi eaters but they also serve hibachi ate Japanese as well. We sat at the very small sushi bar where we were greeted immediately by the sushi shelf. After chatting with him for a while, we found out that had been making sushi for over 32 years. Now, we have eaten a lot of sushi but this was some of the best! Try the Mt. Fuji roll and you'll leave happy!!!

“Average Strip Mall Hibachi”
Reviewed 21 January 2014

In town for business decided to hit up the Hibachi at Tokyo Inn. Overall impression is that the restaurant is a bit dated, the staff was polite, the restaurant was fairly clean. I ordered the filet and shrimp and got the vegetable tempura. The showmanship was fairly typical during the food prep, nothing special about it and done with minimal "enthusiasm". The portions were reasonable and the food appeared and tasted fresh but were nothing special and slightly over salted. The tempura was fried well and not overly battered. Pretty pricey for the setting and the "show", but if you are really in need of a hibachi fix it will do in a pinch.

“Kids may like "the show"”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

If you have a hunger for Japanese food & sushi you will likely find this place acceptable, but it will not likely compare well with similar places elsewhere.
The food falls into a wide range of "decent" and "the show" meets minimum standards.
A "first timer" with us had a good time and was suitably impressed. 6 of us ate for $143. plus tip.
I had smoked salmon sashimi, preceded by miso soup. Both good.
As other reviews have noted, the place tends to be hot and really needs to close for a couple of weeks in the off-season and be remodeled.
Do not look up at the ceiling or too closely at the walls or floors if you are anywhere near being a "clean freak."
I would not return if only my wife and I were selecting a dining place, but choosing with grandkids as well, we will likely return next winter when they again visit.

“Don't Bother”
Reviewed 25 December 2013

We have been going to Tokyo Inn for the last 9 years during our vacations on Marco Island. Because it is the only hibachi place on the island, we have tolerated their many eccentricities. The place is dirty, the chairs are broken and mismatched, the ceiling tiles are stained, one of our chefs has dripped sweat from his forehead onto the hibachi table, and it hasn't been remodeled in at least 20 years. We have even tolerated their inability to understand the English language. But tonight was the last straw. I made a dinner reservation on Christmas night for my family 6 weeks ago. I called from New York and spoke with them just before Thanksgiving. I arrived tonight at 6pm for our reservation, they had no record of it, and then proceeded to tell me that the wait would be 90 minutes. To any entrepreneurs out there, open a hibachi place on Marco and you'll do quite well. These people have been skating by for years because they have a monopoly. Set up your business and you'll do just fine. They deserve to go out of business and you can be the person to do it. The food is mediocre and it's just not worth it. Don't bother.
