My husband and I have just come back from a weekend here. The service was excellent, within minutes of us reporting the radiator in our room not working, the engineer had fixed our radiator and bought an extra heater for our room too. All the staff are very efficient and friendly. The steam room, sauna, swimming pool and spa bath were very clean. The food was very good, 3 courses plus coffee every night. The only thing I would say, if you are disabled in any way then ask for a ground floor room as there is no lift and I saw a number of older people struggling on the stairs with their sticks. Only niggle we had was the room information said the bar opened from 10.30am to midnight on a weekend, which wasn't the case, bar didn't open unitl 3pm.
Would definitely recommend this hotel, it is clearly geared to the older generation but we didn't feel out of place and we would definitely go back.

Stayed one night at the Eden Arms Hotel after being bumped from a more central Durham hotel. Looks OK from road but the interior is tired. Rooms are not uncomfortable but have certainly seen better days. Place seems to target the retired traveller market.
Having read other reviews - and after looking at the restaurant menu - decided not to make use of the dining facilities but that's not a big problem because there are two pubs that serve food a short drive up the road. Did have breakfast in the hotel - watered-down juice, very slow service and they ran out of bread rolls and milk.
On the upside, it does have a pool and jacuzzi. Both of looked OK but we did not have time to make use of them.

Hotel is 8 miles from Durham but on a regular bus route (£6 return unless you're bus pass age). Rooms are clean; pool and spa are a bonus given what you pay (it's an ex-swallow group hotel). Granted there isn't fresh veg with dinner but hey, a few nights without isn't going to kill anyone and in other places you'd just get B&B for the price you're paying for DBB here. We found the staff friendly and hard working. Good base from which to visit Durham, Barnard Castle or Hartlepool (for the Maritime experience -well worth a visit). Road network good and plenty of car parking space at the hotel.

Me and my boyfriend wanted a week away somewhere in England and i found this hotel with Shearings coach holidays but we did a self drive. With it being the hight of the summer holidays we didn't think we were going to get anywhere cheap.

We stayed at the Eden arms for 4 night witch included Bed Breakfast and Tea, for the money the meals we excellent, more veg options on a night would have been nice but everyday was something different with about 4 or 5 mains, 3 or 4 starters and a few puddings each night with coffee and tea in the bar afterwards.

The staff were all really friendly and would do anything to help you with your meals. There is a pool and gym with sauna n spa bath. we used all these facilities and they were great for the week, we had a swim everyday after our trips out. As you were a guest at the hotel they would give you a towel so you didn't have to bring one from your room.

The rooms were a little dated (but which hotels aren't these days) but they were cleaned daily and the hotel had a lovely feel to it. The room included a hair dryer, Iron Ironing board, Trouser press, kettle and little soaps.

Its in a great location with Durham only 20 mins away with buses, which the hotel provide a time table for.

All in all we had a really pleasant stay and would definitely use this hotel again!!

We spent three nights at this hotel and would highly recommend it. Easy access to M1.
The rooms were of a good standard and were very spacious and clean. We found the food good. Menus were changed daily and there was a variety of meals to choose from including vegetarian dishes. There was entertainment on two of the evenings we were there but there was also a number of quiet areas for people who just wanted to chat. It was our first visit to the area and we found staff extremely helpful and pleasant.

The staff were really clued up on service, just a shame that the chef had a grudge against fresh fruit and veg!! Don't try to slim or eat "5-a-day" at this hotel because you will be sorely disappointed about the lack of fresh veg here. During the 5 days we were here we had some type of fried potatoes each night ie roast potatoes/wedges/etc. The veg consisted of frozen carrots/peas/beans/swede - yep all mush with 0% vitamins! I'm no diet freak but this made me into one!

On the plus side the rooms were clean ~(if a little tired) and ours was lovely and quiet which mean I had a good nights sleep which is pretty unusual in a hotel.

The gym and pool were very good - just at odds with the restaurant.

Some of the staff could do with a few "happy pills".

Over all 6/10, room for improvement.
