“great place, incredibly beautiful and culturally rich”

Tamkesi - Traditional Village
Attraction details
Reviewed 26 February 2013

the place is on top of mountain and you can see both the Savu and the Timor seas. it is over 1000 m and the climate is cool. It is located in a small forested areas and consists of the traditional seat of the kings of Biboki. It is very traditional but still used. If you go to Timor, this is a must see

I've been Tamkesi several times with some of my friends from Europe and US. It is an interesting place and very traditional. Mostly people are curious about this place and interested to visit it. Tamkesi is one of exotic traditional villages that recommended to be visited in West Timor, besides Boti and Nome. People have to travel from Kupang to Kefamenanu with a stopping point at So'e (Niki-Niki) to see Nome, or if it's possible to see Boti, thereafter proceed to Kefamenanu. Some good hotels and restaurants are also available in Kefamenanu. They probably not as good as in Bali but good enough for a small town like Kefamenanu.

It's like going to the past by time machine. Tamkesi is located in the mountiens, you can't go by car there, you have to walk about 2 kilometers in beautiful mountiens of Tamkesi nad then you get there. Tamkesi are few very old traditional buildings. Oldest woman will welcome you and talk to you. She willl tell you about their traditional habits, etc. Really interesting.
