Owner description: A stream bordered by a shady hammock abounding in palm trees and other tropical growth winds through the heart of the campus and is the setting for a 15-acre Botanical Garden. The main trail has been named the Dent Smith Trail in honor of the founder of the Palm Society, a worldwide organization primarily engaged in the study of the palm family, in all its aspects. Florida Tech's Garden, through the intense interest of Founding President Emeritus Jerome P. Keuper and the inspiration and help of Mr. Dent Smith in the 1960's, has become one of the most unique campus botanical gardens of its kind in the continental United States. This is a public garden. We have limited staff and love volunteers! There is no fee to visit (self-guided) and we are open from sunrise to sunset. If you would like a guided tour, docents are available with advance notice. A donation of your choosing is recommended for guided tours. As there are natural water features and other potential hazards, please exercise caution during your visit. There are several specimen, delicate or possibly poisonous plants planted or naturally occurring in this garden and hammock. Parents, please maintain appropriate control over your children at all times. Well-mannered dogs on leashes are welcome on the trails only. For your safety, please stay on the trails or within walled areas. Thank you!

A very beautiful visit to a part of old Florida not often found. We very much enjoyed our time walking through these lovely gardens.

Unable to find, no signs, asked two employees, second one told me to park in visitor parking then follow walkway around...... There was no visitor parking, spent 15 minutes driving around. Was to be our first place to visit while on vacation in Melbourne, didn't get to see it.

We totally enjoyed this place! The walkways were really nice, all the plants were labeled so you know what they are if you want to get your own.

Only bad thing was the heat but it is August in Florida :-) We are definitely coming back over the winter and spend more time here. If you love plants, trees, flowers go here!

My son and I went there during the Botanical Garden Festival in March, when all the vendors are there selling all kinds of plants and art, and you can have a free tour. We learned so much about the palm trees and plants. Alone we would be lost in this beautiful garden not learning much.

This botanical garden is a magical place to visit. The plants are labeled, the walkways clearly marked and the overall impression you receive when strolling through the gardens is tranquility. Visiting is a must when in Melbourne if you love gardens.
