“Romantic Relaxing Getaway”
Reviewed 3 October 2011

My husband and I wanted just a one night getaway for our anniversary and had stayed here once before. We had a wonderful, Romantic, relaxing time and it made our anniversary so special. Port D'Hiver went above and beyond with a bottle of wine, crystal wine glasses, fresh flowers, and our beautiful room. I have already recommended their B&B to my friends. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. We had the Mangrove suite which has a sitting room, separate bedroom with huge doors in between, a bath with shower and a spa tub that was wonderful. Ice was already in the ice bucket and a welcome card was waiting on the bed. There is wicker furniture on the porch where you can enjoy their AMAZING breakfast there or go to the main house for it. The spa pool is hot and relaxing. They have supplies for the beach which is right across the street. Restaurants are within walking distance and parking is behind the Inn and off the street. If I have to note any problem it was the pillows were too soft for our liking so we didn't sleep as well. But We didn't want to leave and head back to the daily stress. We will definitely stay again!

My husband and I stayed at Port D'Hiver for our 4th wedding anniversary/babymoon. I can't wait until we can return for another visit. The staff and the guests were all so wonderful, we didn't want to leave. There wasn't a single thing missing, from the outstanding breakfasts, delicious cookies, enjoyable happy hour, beach necessities, snacks, and their wonderful rooms. We loved everything about our stay!

Room Tip: We loved the Sunrise room

What a fabulous place! We had high expectations as the reviews of Port D'Hiver were excellent. But the staff and standard of accommodation exceeded these and then some. The rooms were spotless and beautifully furnished. The food was first class and the warm welcome and facilities were 6 star!
lf you are planning a stay in Florida promise yourselfa few nights or longer at Port D'Hiver. You won't be disappointed.
Great beach nearby and so many places to eat its difficult to choose. Its a destination for quieter breaks but with interesting things to do and see.

Room Tip: We had the Sunrise room which did exactly what it says!

We loved our first visit here and this time brought our mother along. She was in the adjoining bedroom. We spent the day at the beach using towels, drinks, and chairs provided by our hosts. We rinsed off the sand and salt in the outdoor shower and relaxed a little in the swimming pool before going back to our nice cool room to get dressed for dinner. In the evening we enjoyed cocktail hour with our host then headed down for some lite fare and excellent music just for momma at a local restaurant recommended by the owners. After singing along to some Jazz and Blues favorites we finished our evening with stargazing and sharing stories on the adjoining deck while digging onto scrumptious rum cakes left on our pillows. We awoke to a glasslike ocean and took a quick walk after our delicious breakfast before we headed home again - with some of Port d'Hiver's famous cookies in our pockets for the trip back to The Villages. If you want to bring your parents or friends you can't do better than staying in Ella Belle's and Walter's rooms. (there is a third room across the hall if you need three rooms). Just do yourself a favor if you can - stay longer than one night - there is so much to savor in this B&B and the town of Melbourne that she will keep you coming back for more.

We have to admit that we had reservations about staying in an Inn after a bad experience with one in Monteray, California a few years ago and some great recent vacation experiences in large hotels such as the Sofitel (New York City), the Langham Place (Hong Kong), the Pan Pacific (Singapore) and the Shangri La Rasa Sayang Resort (Penang). However any worries about the standard of accommodation evaporated when we stepped into The Havana Room, a large and tastefully appointed colonial-style room on the first floor of one of the annexes to the main house. The bed was massive, the lighting was classy, the ceilings were high and all the facilities (air con, spa tub/shower, tv/dvd player) were modern and efficient. Most importantly, it was spotlessly clean and looked brand new.

Breakfast next morning was a delight, as it was each and every day of our stay. There was a starter of fruit salad and a warm muffin, followed wide range of hot or cold choices (usually at least three). Everything we ate was delicious and the portions were big enough to allow us to skip lunch if we wanted to. However if we ever got peckish, there was always the snack larder, which provided all-day access to crisps, muesli bars, crackers, a range of chilled soft drinks and bottled water.

A nice touch was the daily "nibbles hour" when the staff plied us with wine, beer, soft drinks and hors d'oeuvres and provided a convivial atmosphere in which guests could mix. In addition, turndown was accompanied by a baked treat. And they really were a treat!

Location was perfect for us as we wanted to spend our time with a mixture of kicking back and doing the more usual central Florida things. The parks in Orlando were around 75 minutes away by car (Harry Potter at Universal is amazing), Kennedy Space Centre was 35 minutes away and an Outlet Mall selling all the major upscale brands was available at Vero Beach, 45 minutes away. The beach was just across the road, and would have provided a lovely venue for an evening stroll had the bugs not been so keen on our pale but juicy celtic flesh. Brevard Zoo (around 20 minutes away) is well worth a visit, if only to see the 'gators being fed.

There are a few places to eat within walking distance, and the local area felt very safe and friendly. It's mostly residential, but not in any unwelcoming to visitors. Having discovered Chef Frank's Italian take-away hidden away in a corner of the Melbourne Beach Market (just across the street) we found lots of opportunities to use the table and chairs on our balcony, overlooking the fountain and spa pool in the courtyard.

As always, the difference between a good establishment and a great establishment is due to the staff and Val, Linda and Mike, along with their team do a great job in providing a hearty welcome without becoming intrusive. Jenn, Erica and Kay deserve specific credit. The little touches make all the difference, like when Val spotted our mosquito bites and instantly a large anti-bug candle appeared on our balcony. They also coped admirably with our unusual dietary requirements.

All in all, a fabulous stay in a classy Inn run by great people and we hope to return!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the courtyard avoid daytime road noise, but you'll give up the sea view.

My fiance and I chose this place because of the outstanding reviews and their website explained beautifully what everything looked like and what to expect while there. We live about an hour and a half away but wanted out experience to be like we were traveling to some far away place. From the day we arrived til departure we had a awesome time. From the soothing jazz music playing in our room to the delicious breakfast that was provided every morning, the staff at Port D' Hiver made our stay the most memorable experience ever! We are planning to come back again soon.

Beautifully presented, comfortable, stylish and meticulously clean bedrooms with well-dressed, comfortable beds (lovely crisp cotton sheets) in this charming home right on Melbourne Beach. Unusually for America, the bathrooms have huge European-style bathtubs, which were blissful after 2 weeks of showers. So many thoughtful touches in the bedrooms, such as home-made brownies, and ice in the ice bucket when we arrived, as well as complementary bottled water, free use of beach towels, a help-yourself (free) selection of soft drinks and snacks for the teenagers, and in the main house a constant supply of coffee and freshly-baked cookies. Staff were all very friendly, professional and unobtrusive. The staff recommended - and booked - a very good local restaurant for dinner. Port D'Hiver was well-placed for Orlando airport (around 30-40 minutes) and we will definitely return when we next visit the area.

Room Tip: The rooms were all of a very high standard.
