This is a great drive around a superb nature reserve on Kennedy Space centre land, cost $5. but that also gets you onto the beach at PlayaLinda further out along Merritt Island Wildlife refuge.
You could be lucky & see some amazing Gators up close, we did this last time & were amazed at how much wildlife lives right alongside the Space Centre.
Nature & Space - amazing

This is how it went: Wow. Look. It's a palm tree and another palm tree. Wait! What's that??!? Oh, it's a palm tree. Awesome. There's a bird. There's another bird. Hey, is that bird? Why, yes. Yes, it is a bird...just like the other nine million birds out there.

We were highly amused when we bumped into the stereotypical bird watcher couple, dressed in their safari hats, vests, and 3 super binoculars around their necks, sneaking around trying to camouflage themselves with the scenery. Well, we were amused until we ended up stuck behind them. See, the drive is unpaved, 15 mph, one way, and one lane. If you get stuck behind one of those avid bird lovers, you're stuck behind them FOR FOREVER! This couple was maxing out at 4 mph and stopping frequently. There was an entire line of cars just waiting for them to snap the perfect picture of...A BIRD! I, honestly, was contemplating violence.

The highlight of the trip was the visitor center. There's a nice little museum that had several hands on exhibits. There was lots of fun information about the different types of wildlife that the area is supposed to have. The clerk at the reception was incredibly nice. He was very friendly and helpful! He spent some time advising us where to visit and describing the different trails that are available. Overall, unless you are that couple with the safari hats and binoculars and a peculiar interest in birdwatching, skip the refuge and visit the Kennedy Space Center instead!

This is the second time my wife and I took this drive while in Florida. Last time it was winter and this time it was in late spring. We saw birds that we didn't see last time. We spotted an alligator swimming and black vultures eating a dead armadillo and the head of a dead animal! The Bennington of our trip was during a thunderstorm but we saw plenty of wildlife. As a nature and wildlife photographer I love to take pictures on this drive. Even my wife with a point and shoot camera got great shots. If you love nature this is a great place.

We used to live in Florida so we knew this existed but brought the kids on one of our annual trips , this used to be an awesome area to spot gators , so much of the area to spot the gators the weeds are over grown making it difficult to spot from car while riding safely, plenty of birds etc to see

Visited Blackpoint a few times in the last week - tried dawn, dusk, low tide, high tide and a few other times during the days. Have to say I was disappointed this time as there was not much around at all this time - both the large waterfowl areas pretty empty apart from a handful of Nothern Shovellers and one Reddish Egret and nothing up by the Cruckshank Trail either.
Usually go in Feb and have seen snakes, bobcats, gators, rails, all the herons and both bitterns, spoonbills and racoons.......
Will try again next year but it,s slipping down the list in favour of Vierra Wetlands which is better for Wildlife Photography and was absolutely teaming with life.
