The location is terrific if you want to get away. The house is actually just south of Mexico Beach city limits and in the Eastern Time Zone. The GPS was trying to take me 20 more miles past the location, but I was able to find the house before I made that mistake.
Mexico Beach is a small town with a handful of restaurants and one old time IGA grocery. I think there is a gas station. Yes, that small. There are no putt-putt golf or go karts or t-shirt shacks or any of that. Traffic through town is reasonable, but watch out for the logging trucks!
Port St. Joe is a short distance down the road. It is a bigger town, with a concentrated downtown area with some nice shops and restaurants a block north of the main drag. They have a Piggly-Wiggly grocery and a CVS, if you want to do more extensive shopping than the MB IGA. They also have a larger Dollar General. We hit all of them at some point. They also have two fast food places, McD's and Hungry Howie's. We like HH. We enjoyed visiting this town one day to do some shopping.
The house is directly on the beach and you can see the gulf from the couch. That said, the house is an older duplex and in need of some TLC. There appears to have been some storm damage in the past, as the floor is warped and the internal doors don't swing shut completely and the ceiling of the screened-in porch is damaged. The screens are starting to break out, also. The air conditioner works very well, though - we froze!
The owner was quick to respond to my emails when we made reservations and answered all my questions and, much to her credit, she bent one of her rules for one of my party, which was greatly appreciated!
