Owner description: Zoo Miami (also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida, and the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental United States. The unique climate in South Florida allows us to keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa, representing a broad mix of species that is unlike any other zoo in the country. Zoo Miami today occupies almost 750 acres, and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Of this population, more than 40 species are classified as endangered. The zoo also houses more than 1,000 species of trees, palms and other plants, and over 100 special exhibits showcasing a broad number of species and scientific topics. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) which means we have passed a rigorous application and inspection process and meet or exceed the AZA's standards for animal health and welfare, fundraising, zoo staffing, and involvement in global conservation efforts. Zoo Miami is proud to be an active leader in many global wildlife and environmental conservation initiatives, and we are currently involved in over 36 projects taking place on six continents.

“Worth a visit!”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

The zoo was very nice with lots to see!

We visited for the first time on August 21st, 2014. As the zoo seemed very large and it was very hot, we decided to rent one of the safari cycles. This was well worth the money!! We managed to see the entire zoo in about 2 hours (with short stops at the animals and quick pictures). It was me and my mom (no kids), so this allowed us to go quicker. The giraffes were very beautiful and impressive to see! We loved it.

“Family Fun”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

The day we went was wicked hot but there are several water features for the kids. The animals are all in very natural looking settings and were surprisingly active for such a hot day. Be forewarned that there are several things to do inside the park and THEY ALL COST EXTRA. For instance there is a carousel for the kids, a monorail to ride ( this was great when we were totally worn out), giraffe feeding, parakeet feeding and more. All of these things were a cost on top of the admission. Having said that, my family and I still thought is was worth it. We enjoyed all the animal exhibits and were especially captivated by the pride of lions ( with frolicking cubs) and the very active and vocal monkeys. We spent so much time at some of the exhibits that we could not see the whole zoo in a five hour period.

My kids loved this zoo. The turtles were HUGE, like I've never seen before. It was clean and animals looked well taken care of.

“I had a fun time!”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

Although it was pouring the day I went, I saw many interesting animals. I only dislike how the bike rentals were mad expensive. Also, you get lost very easily and find yourself going around in circles. A lot of changes were made but I hope they finish fixing up the zoo. Recommend it.
