We visited while in town with family during the summer. Beautiful gardens, home, an furnishings. The house is a close to Calle Ocho and other great areas in Miami to visit. Definitely worth visiting while in town.

We were looking for somewhere to go on a shorty afternoon and found this amazing place. It was the most beautiful house demonstrating all European cultural history in one place. Added bonus was the orchid collection, the man gives, lizards and butterflies. So glad we found it; I never expected anything like this in Miami.

The Vizcaya estate is an eclectic plethora of European art, decor and architecture. I didn’t do any research before visiting other than a few Google searches and was expecting a bit more of an authentic Spanish estate. The estate is only about 100 years old (if that old) and is a Chicago magnates collection of European artifacts. The grounds and gardens are like little Venice and then you look up to see the Miami skyline. Highly recommend the orchid garden, it was just delightful with types of orchids we’d never seen before and butterflies fluttering about. Very sweet. The grounds are much more interesting than the house. This was a very convenient tour. And a nice way to spend a couple of hours in Miami. It’s definitely off the beaten path and shows you there’s more to Miami then sun and beaches. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty crowded.

If you like living museums and interesting history, this is the place. A place of wonder and amazing artifacts. As we walked through it, it was hard to imagine compiling such an extensive collection in one place. Definitely a worthwhile place to stop and spend a few hours.
