Holiday Inn Port of Miami Downtown
Ranked #53 of 125 Hotels in Miami
Reviewed 25 June 2014

The Holiday Inn Port of Miami bills itself as one of the closest hotels to the Port and it's busy cruise terminals. Wow, they were right! It was a short cab ride to our cruise terminal and an easy walk to the Bayside Marketplace and other attractions in downtown Miami.

We spent one night at the hotel, staying there the night before our cruise. We had a spacious, clean room for that night. Since our flight to Miami was delayed, we didn't arrive until nearly 1am - a clean room with a good bed was all we had time for!

The hotel is currently undergoing renovations, resulting in some areas of work in the common areas. We didn't have any issues with the work other than having workers outside our room early in the morning, limiting our views over the ocean.

The only hiccup in our stay was that the hotel was unable to provide us a crib for the night. I had called the hotel earlier that week to request a crib and was assured one would be available. When we arrived, we asked about the crib since it wasn't in our room. Somehow, the request had not made it to the people who provided the cribs, so one was not available for us. The night attendant was very apologetic, which helped, but still wasn't ideal for us and our daughter. However, we made it through the night and proceeded to have an enjoyable vacation!

Great hotel with excellent location. The service was awesome, front desk, valet parking and housekeepeing. The restaurant was good too, nice food and great service. The pool is small but is ok. If the area will be non smoking it will even better. I recommend this hotel and if i return to Miami i will stay there.

We always stay here before our cruise. Had a great stay. Noel at the front desk, as well as Mara, and Valescab. Made us feel welcome. Awesome facility, and breakfast was reasonable. The only issue are the bathrooms are a little small, but everything about this facility is great.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Port of Miami Downtown before our cruise. It was a great location. We enjoyed being able to walk over to the mall across the street, and along Biscayne Bay. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Desk staff was friendly. We stayed two nights and ended up having to move after the first night because the air conditioning broke on our floor, but it wasn't a huge deal. Both rooms we stayed in had a nice view of the port. They gave us complimentary breakfast for the inconvenience of moving rooms, which was definitely nothing to write home about. Food was not that great, most was cold, and wait staff wasn't particularly friendly. We were really glad we didn't pay the $14 each for the meal. Pool was small, but nice. Wish there was a hot tub and that smoking wasn't allowed on the pool deck. We would stay there again if we're in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that overlooks the port if you'd like a beautiful view.

I had the pleasure of being able to enjoy an amazing birthday weekend at such a fantastic hotel. From the moment I check-in the front desk agent Marco and FOM Sebastian (I think that was his name) were saying Happy Birthday to me and made me feel at home. I spent some time in the pool area which I enjoyed the area very much so. My favorite part was having bayside just a block away, were I went on a party boat that was just what I need for a night out with friends. I had such a great time, even at check-out Noel was very nice. Overall all great staff :) Second time I’ve been to this property and I would go back any day.

Nice place to stay before cruise, gym was nice, clean and good variety of equipment. Some drawbacks were the toilet in room does not flush very well and toilet was noisy room #826 if I remember right. We also seen room service trash sitting on table by elevators all day and deep into the night. We seen free breakfast online but as we went to breakfast all we could choose was $10.95 breakfast so don't know what happened with that advertising blunder. Pool is extremely small for size of hotel that serves well over a thousand guests. Pool shower does not work. Employees walk right by trash and wet towels left by guest. Valet area has the same trash laying on ground all three days we stayed. Regardless we would stay here again.

This is our second visit to this hotel...both visits for stays the night prior to catching a cruise ship over at the Port of Miami (practically across the street!). Both visits we (wife, daughter (11) and I) enjoyed the location, quality of room, and pleasant employees.

Our room had 2 double beds, a walk-in closet, and small but usable bathroom. The room itself is a bit smaller than more modern hotel rooms these days, but for an overnight stay, it's fine. I think it would be a tad crowded if 4 adults shared this room. There is no desk...just two chairs and a small round table. The 32" TV was a bit small, but we rarely used it. The bathroom was very clean and in good condition (towel rods were solid...loose towel rods are something that drive me nuts in hotels). You can tell the staff constantly work on this hotel. The walls and door trim obviously have been painted numerous times (there is a bit of build-up, but it looks fine), fixtures have been upgraded, and furniture/lighting is all in good shape. We heard very little noise from others on our floor (8th). The window view was the rear of the hotel (glimpse of the tiny pool below and a giant HVAC system). Beds were comfy.

Parking is an area of needed improvement. Valet only, $25/day. We dropped the car off with the valet (courteous staff), but had to carry our luggage through the pool area to get to the check-in counter at the main lobby of the hotel. There is little this hotel can really do about this, but it sure would be nice if there was some sort of front entrance. Check-in staff were numerous so there was no wait. They were friendly.

Location can't be beat. Across the street is the Bayside shops, with restaurants, live music, boat tours, etc. We ended up eating at Hard Rock Cafe, but got a drink at the "Let's Make a Daiquiri" stand (one of my wife's favorites). Many of the store, restaurant, or kiosk vendors were a bit pushy...trying to get us into their restaurant or store. Felt a little like Jamaica when getting off a cruise ship. We have not eaten in the hotel's restaurant, but they do serve all three meals and the menu looked good.

Overall, this is a very good hotel that has a staff that obviously has a lot of work on their hands to keep it fresh and well maintained. Whenever we plan to visit Miami for a cruise, this is where we'll be the night before!

Room Tip: Rooms on the East side will certainly have a better view than the West side. The monorail runs behin...
