“nice staff”
Reviewed 4 June 2012

Stayed here due to business meeting onsite. The hotel staff was excellent. From front desk to servers to housekeeping all were extemely nice & helpful. the hotel staff is what prevents a lower rating. Lobby was small, but nicely appointed. Room was in dire need of a facelift. Sliding glass doors to balcony were bolted shut. Mattress sunk in the middle. Extemely small bathroom & thats with vanity adjacent to actual room with toilet/shower. Still not sure whats up with the half wall between vanity/closet & beds/rest of room

Stayed here for a conference recently. Mostly what would be expected from an aging Hyatt; my room was OK but seemed in need of a renovation, e.g., the carpet was quite worn and stained, room very dark. The staff at the front desk and restaurants were very pleasant and professional. Not a really good location for walking around mainly due to traffic. What really turned me off though was the buisness center policy. I needed to print out one page from a memory stick, and was told I would have to pay $10 just for initial workstation access, and then $1 per page ($2 for color) - thus $11 for one B&W page! Disgraceful - I have used many business centers and never experienced anything like this. I understand many business customers will unthinkingly pay whatever is charged, but this is no justification for taking advantage of others in this way.

I have stayed at the hyatt for the past 6 years and I only do because it is downtown and I can get it at a good price. The front desk staff are not very nice; not at all and it gets kind of tiring when you have to keep on asking for a manager for every complaint whether its room charges, valet or whatever. I will not say it is poor because the rooms are nice, I just would like to not have to deal with the staff at concierge or front desk ever. Even the restuarant people are amazing, but you cant eat everytime you go downstairs to get a smile and good service.

Room Tip: If you dont like the room, ask for another. Rooms that are close to the back of the hotel or at the...

Stayed there for business for 6 days. The employees are really helpful and provide good service. The meeting rooms have a good size, and are clean.
The rooms are somewhat strange, as the wall that divides the bedroom and the restroom and sink does not reach the ceiling (??).
The hotel is located within walking distance from Bayside shops and restaurants, and also from the American Airlines Arena.

Roaches on the walls in the restaurant, waiter informs us that they usually stay within the kitchen. This hotel appears to have been financed by 1980's coke money and then never, ever upgraded. The rooms are like something out of the television show Heart to Heart, and they smell like the Marlboro man. No vent or fan in the bathroom and peeling wallpaper. Did I mention the roaches? I came with my family to Miami for the first time, and I thought the Hyatt brand would ensure quality. We had to drive into South Beach every day to eat. The surrounding area in downtown Miami is full of homeless crackheads that look like they crawled out of the floor in Michael Jackson's Thriller video. It's a sunbelt city, so couple of steakhouses that looked respectable, were nightclub scenes that required one to park down the block in underground parking for a fee. There's no pulling up to the curb, running inside and taking a look at the menu. I thought we would get away to enjoy the rooftop gym and pool. The pool was the size of hot tub, and the gym was like a walk in closet with mirrors, a treadmill and a small rack of plastic free weights.

Room Tip: every floor has toxic air from decades of cigarettes

My experience with the folks at the reception was fabulous. On arrival, they were very helpful - provided me with detailed instructions on how to use the public transit system and even a map of nearby running routes. On departure, they helped me save a bit of money on my final bill. On the other hand, when I tried to call down from my room a couple times, I was never able to reach anyone. The elevators went on the fritz during my stay and it took an extraordinary long time to get things running properly again (this is actually pretty important with a hotel that has 20+ floors). A number of other little things suggest that this is a property that needs some investment in refurbishing. Because of the elevator problem, I took the stairs which led to an external exit. Once I got outside, it was clear that this exit hadn't been used for a while - debris and garbage on the outside stairs. The location is good - and provides a rationale for going back.

Room Tip: Colleagues that stayed on lower floors complained of noise (including sirens with the raising of a n...
