This is my 3rd time to stay at the W in South Beach, and I must say it has been consistently top-notch in my experience for a number of reasons: (1) The location is perfect: beach front property that's walking distance to Lincoln Road but far enough away from the tourist crowds on and off-beach. (2) All hotel rooms have a view of the ocean, in addition to being spanking clean (I always look forward to crisp, fresh white bed sheets!), tasteful and with a generous lounging area. (3) The food is consistently great: The Dutch has some of the best breakfasts around, and the salted caramel pot de creme on the room service menu is just ridiculously yummy. (4) I love how most W Hotels have generous shared lobby areas, but the W South Beach goes one better with lots more little corners to hang out in, like the secret garden, the living room/bar area, cabanas poolside, and comfy couches in a huge lobby area . And finally, my biggest reason is (5) Excellent service: The staff really engages on a personal basis to help guests feel welcome and taken care of, from the hotel car that can give you a ride to your dinner reservation, the folks at the door, the maids, the servers at the pool and the restaurants. Special kudos goes to David at the Concierge desk who not only took care of dinner and transport arrangements for us but even lent (and entrusted) me (with) his personal IPhone charger/converter when I mentioned my phone had died, which is way beyond his job description!

Room Tip: The higher, the better in the main tower . . . Ask for as close to the beach as possible.

We stayed at the W over Christmas week.We booked the "cool corner suite." It is more like an apartment. 2 Bedroom with 2 bathrooms overlooking the ocean and side of the hotel. We were initially happy with the size of the accommodations, however the rooms are very run down and neglected. The bathrooms were not cleaned, stained towels and no garbage bags in the pails. Lots of residue on the floor left over from previous guests which made it very uncomfortable. Our full size fridge had a bad odor, it was clearly not cleaned from the previous guests, nor was the room inspected properly. Most of the furniture in the living room was stained and soiled. The kitchen table and chairs were not clean. We had to call the housekeeping manager 3x until he finally showed up and witnessed this himself.
The hotel lobby is beautiful. We enjoyed dinner at Mr. Chow which was reasonable and very tasty. Breakfast at the Dutch was extremely overpriced. The pool area was very crowded. One morning we arrived at the pool at 9:30am to find there was a waiting list for chairs, while most of the chairs were unclaimed?!... We headed to the beach where we were charged $15.00 for an
umbrella. Kind of disappointing since we were staying in such an expensive room. Overall the W is in an excellent location but definitely not worth the price.

Loved this hotel, a really amazing location in south beach, hotel rooms are very generous for Miami and the service is fantastic.

The pool staff are very helpful and they even provided toys for my little boy to play with on our trip.

Room Tip: Go for a room high up if possible

Staying here for new years. The rooms are very big and very nice. The staff here is very friendly and nice. The housekeepers are outstanding, one housekeeper on our floor named Gadi was especially helpful, she brought us mouthwash and toothpaste that we forgot at home.

I recently stayed at the W South Beach and had a memorable experience, Much of which can be credited to the W Staff, more specifically Elbia Eddaikra-Pratt. Elbia helped me plan my surprise engagement to my fiance. Elbia helped me plan the entire weekend and was extremely detailed oriented. Great communication throughout the hotel made everything go off without a hitch. I can100% recommend the hotel and encourage future guest to take advantage of the great Whenever Wherever service that the W offers.

We just got back from a 2 night stay here and it was a pretty mixed experience. The other TripAdvisor reviews about the construction noise next door are quite accurate. It really is relentless and you will notice it the whole time you’re here.

Hotel – As you expect with most W Hotels, it looks amazing and the public spaces are beautiful. It’s right on a nice big stretch of the beach, too.

Pool – Fantastic. We hung out at the pool both days and had a great time. I’m not sure why so many other reviewers had a negative experience. We had no problem getting lounge chairs in the sun and the poolside staff was friendly and efficient. There is construction noise all day long but we got used to it. It was tolerable for 2 days but I don’t think I’d stay here for a week.

Restaurants – Mr. Chow and The Dutch were both dead when we stopped by. There were only a handful of people at each so we headed to Katsuya at the SLS Hotel and enjoyed some of the best sushi we’ve ever had.

Rooms – OK, here’s where it gets complicated. We booked a Fabulous Studio because it had a larger patio. However the room was on the 4th floor (on the construction side) without much of a view. But it was large, with a huge bathroom and nice sitting area. Plus, we didn't think we’d be in the room much anyway. We thought it would be fine for 2 nights. Wrong. We were woken up around 2 am by some unbelievable bass vibrating the entire place. We called the Whenever/Whatever line and discovered that our room was directly over the Wall nightclub. We couldn't sleep until the club finally closed at 4:30 am.

We went straight to the front desk in the morning and luckily we were helped by the same woman who checked us in the day before. She apologized profusely and looked for a new room. She wanted to upgrade us to an Oasis suite but said she’d have to check with her manager. I gave her my phone number and we headed out to the pool. I looked at spg.com and was happy to see that nicer rooms were available in every category, probably since we only needed 1 more night and it was mid-week. However, when we got the call, we were told that she couldn't get her manager to approve the upgrade. We got a smaller room but paid the same rate. No discount, no food/beverage credit, nothing. However, it was on the 10th floor facing south with a great view of the beach. More importantly, it was far, far away from the construction and the nightclub.

So at least our stay ended on a better note. I really wish we’d known to request a room on the south side when we checked in. But I’m also very disappointed they were so stingy with an upgrade to make up for the inconvenience of the nightclub noise, particularly when there was plenty of availability for just 1 night. If management reads this review, please don’t bother to apologize in this forum. If you’d done something…anything…to make up for the first night, I’d probably be giving you 4 stars (despite the construction). Instead this visit was only worth 2 stars and we’ll most likely try some place new the next time we’re in South Beach.

Room Tip: Make SURE to ask if your room is ANYWHERE near the Wall nightclub. If it is, don’t plan on sleeping...

Good property and knew it would be expensive, but was disappointed. Had lunch by the pool when we arrived. We each had a sandwich and one drink - 4 people - $200 bill - no kidding. That set the tone and then we seemed to get nickled and dimed for most everything you do. Pool drinks with tax and tip come to about $20 each and were very weak

They have a "unique" way of changing the mats in the elevators to say good morning, good afternoon and good evening to reflect the time of day. I would rather see them put their service to work in more important areas. Ok, pool and great beach - but not up to other W hotels we have stayed at..
