I'd like to be able to say that The Mondrian South Beach even earns 3 stars, but you can't award 2.5. The hotel is a bit tired. Our first room, a suite, had the dirtiest, broken "sleeper sofa" that you could find better at the Salvation Army. I put it in quotes because the one inch mattress on a metal frame that looked like an old metal pool lounger is not suitable for anyone to sleep on. A much better example is at the value chain Residence Inn. Second room better but no where to store clothing(no drawers). No doorman to open the heavy front doors when you're coming in with bags; half the time no one answers the phone at the concierge. Food is a zero. Really. We ordered room service--sushi + salads and it was extremely disappointing. The restaurant at the hotel has been empty the past two days; the most food is ordered at the pool. While the service at the hotel is underwhelming, David at the pool is a bright spot and goes out of his way to make you comfortable. The view is gorgeous and the area is fantastic--whole foods and Starbucks across the street, which come in especially handy in this case.

Thank you for your recent visit. We are glad that David at the pool provided you with top notch service. We are sorry that you found the service levels to be inconsistent. We further apologize that the sleeper sofa in your first room was not functioning properly. Our Engineers have addressed this shortcoming. We regret, too, that you did not enjoy the food offered by our restaurant. Most who dine there enjoy it and have even commented on this site about it.

Best regards,

Ellis

PROS:
1) whole foods + starbucks is 1 block away
2) spacious rooms
3) kitchen, mini fridge, free kurig coffee maker, a few dishes, stove top (not sure who brings pots/pans though?)
4) nice toiletries provided
5) pool attendants DAVID and TONY were amazing! So welcoming, not snobby, didn't care that we didn't always buy drinks, always made sure things were going well. Really made the extra effort to go the extra mile. This was the only good service we had the entire time.
6) Breakfast buffet that is included was pretty good. Fresh melons, apples, bananas, granola, pastries, and greek yogurt (which we later found out is 9% MF...) Coffee is so so.
7) room had a great view of the bay, beautiful sunsets

CONS:
1) upon arrival we were given the wrong type of room that we reserved and were told that the type we asked for (two double beds) did not exist... was given a "king" bedroom, but the bed size was actually a queen.. the next day we got a room change to the double bed room (essentially we were lied to)
2) booked a 2 queen bedroom suite, one bedroom has a double bed, the other a queen.
3) beds are HARD AS ROCK
4) parking is $40 a day
5) wifi is $15 a day. for an upscale hotel, this is ridiculous in 2014.
6) no shelving in rooms, lived out of the luggage the entire time
7) lighting is HORRIBLE in the rooms- all dim light, very hard to get ready at night
8) creepy face of a girl staring at you in the room
9) housekeeping has walked in twice without knocking, once while I was in the shower, the other when we were sitting in the living room area.
10) no full length mirrors- had to stand in the shower, which is the one
11) gym is the size of two hotel rooms.. aka VERY small, hardly air conditioned, small face towels provided (some with stains..), limited selection of free weights and machines
12) horrible pressure from the shower
13) hotel decor is all white- very hard to maintain, and can see weathering, stains, and cracks.
14) always double check your hotel charges. we booked for complimentary continental breakfast but were charged for the breakfast buffet every day!
15) very small closet space

All-in-all, would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone that enjoys a hotel that focuses on service or quality. This hotel does not feel "high-end", may be better off staying at the bikini hostel down the street! Unfortunately, it was a disappointment.

Thank you all for a perfect holiday . From the first moment we were treated perfectly and we had a marvellous trip . From the first moment when Carlos managed to sort out our room [ after virgins mistake ] and we got the suite with the balcony over looking the water we were in heaven . The staff could not have done more and service was always genuine and warm . The room was spacious , clean , big comfortable bed , great shower and we loved the design . Having the kitchen area meant we could pop to whole foods and then sit on the balcony and enjoy the sunset .
Must also thank Luis the concierge for his help and for all the other staff who made Davids birthday so special . The food in the restaurant was brilliant . The sushi was divine . We also loved the food at the pool bar and the strawberry vodka lemonade . And the happy hour cocktails with the great dj on Friday night . What made this such a unique place for us was the total mix here ; the cool , the models , the families , kissing couples , oldies , little dogs , locals , bride and groom ...... I had no complaints about my stay , it really is a magical place . And I am looking forward to when the Modrian arrives in London .

Room Tip: get a suite as get kitchen area , and one of the rooms over looking the bay with a balcony

Getting away from the frigid cold is something I do every year. So I planned my trip to S. Florida and wanted to experience something different, something South Beach like. Trip advisor has been quite an aide when doing so. The Mondrian Hotel was something new and different, which is just what I needed. There are many great reviews here about the Mondrian and so I decided to take the chance.

Wow, from the moment I arrived to the hotel I was so excited, this was my dream vacation at a place like this. Very chic, clean and awesome art . My room was spectacular, I felt like a movie star. I hung out by the pool and was attended by Chantal, she suggested great fun drinks and was very courteous. Chantal was also very knowledgable about the area and provided me great information about shops and night life. I must say that the people there are beautiful, this was like Fantasy Island.

Although I only had a weekend getaway, I had a fantastic time. The Mondrian Hotel is a place you should visit if you want to have an extravagant and luxurious vacation.

Tired after fighting off Miami’s Friday night traffic, we finally arrived and found a lobby which had the sound and volume like a disco. We were given a room on the 7th floor, with city view. The first that struck us, as we entered the room was an enormous smell, of something meant to resemble perfume. It’s OK that Hotels try to create an atmosphere with some nice smell, but when you overdo it in the extreme, it has the opposite effect.
The next thing we noticed was all the things that were missing from our room. We had no coffee maker, only one bathrobe, and only decaf coffee. When we called for a coffee maker, they brought us a kettle! After clearing up this misunderstanding, we were given a coffee machine that didn’t work.

When we went to bed the nose from the air condition was horrible, the air condition is actually located in a closet in the room, which provides absolutely no noise protection. The next problem was the noise from the street. The police drove by, with their sirens on, several times a night and made sleeping difficult. The last source of noise was the linen closet. The door was opened and slammed shut, several times during the night. Horrible.
In the morning, we first called down to request a new coffee machine. After 30 minutes I went down to the lobby to complain about all of this. My complain was handled very professional, we were promised a new room during the day, and given complimentary breakfast for our entire stay. And eventually, 1 hour and 45 minutes after our first call, we finally received a functioning coffee maker.

The new room was on the pent house floor, with sea view, very good. The rest of the stay went on without any drama.
I was not particularly impressed by the concierge. We wanted to go to the cinema, but they were unable to tell us which movies that was on, or to tell us when they stared. We were only told were the cinema was.

The breakfast was OK. We had the buffet, and it had a good selection of fruits, but now bread or cold cuts. The Orange Juice was good, but the coffee was not very tasty. Not worth the 24 dollars they charge per person, and we would not have had it if it weren’t given to us. My wife ordered a double espresso, and it didn’t blow our socks off, but what did was the check. The espresso cost 10 dollars + tax, totaling to 12.77 dollars! That must be the world’s most expensive espresso. How on earth can you justify this price? Is the coffee transported from South America on camelback? In Norway, which I thought was expensive; you could get four double espressos for that price.

As were talking about what this hotel charges for; they charge 15 dollars for 24 hours wi-fi connection. In 2014 that is just ridiculous. It should be complimentary, end of discussion. They also charge 40 dollars per day for parking. I have stayed at 2 star hotels were these things have been complimentary. Even though I can afford to pay for all of this, I don’t like to be ripped off, or to pay more then things are worth.

All in all this hotel has a way to go, to earn its 4,5 stars. They charge heavily for things that are to be complimentary, and the service levels are below what you should expect from a place like this.

Hotel is super modern and clean. Rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Pool area is gorgeous and poolside menu was delish. Location is great as Walgreens, whole foods and Starbucks are one block away along with little restos. What made my stay memorable was the very accommodating staff from check in to check out. They truly went over and above and I couldn't ask for anything to be better. This is the only place I will stay in south beach. I will be back to say hi to the friends I've made in the hotel.

We had a very nice anniversary dinner last night at their restaurant ("The Restaurant"), and throughly enjoyed the experience: The food was outstanding, and to be honest, much better what we expected. I consider it a well-kept secret - there is so much buzz about restaurants in Miami Beach who are of much lesser quality! Also the service, especially Louis, was very nice! This should be a 'destination restaurant', and not just a place to eat when you are in the hotel!

Located on newly-fashionable West Avenue, Mondrian is a quiet enclave just minutes from the bustling center of South Beach, offering spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, Biscayne Bay and downtown Miami. Upon entering the soaring lobby, the floor-to-ceiling windows offer stunning views of Biscayne Bay.
