This is a very good option going to have a nice vacation in the beach. Very good location. Staff very nice. Good food. Sometimes to fet the car takes a little for time that we want, but is not very bad.

Following a fantastic trip which included 1 week bare boating in the BVI and 5 days of luxury relaxation in the Yucatan, we decided to spend our last two night in Miami before flying back home to Europe.

So as to be able to relax by the pool and on the beach with our 9 year old son, we opted for a Miami Beach hotel, a little north from the tacky glitter of SoBe. Following a browse through Tripadvisor and Booking.com reviews of various hotels, and checking and summer deals, we decided on the Grand Beach Hotel.

Quick summary of the good and bad points based on our 2-night stay:

Good:
Spacious rooms (we had a north corner junior suite on the 19th floor, views were great);
Courteous and helpful staff at the front and concierge desks;
Clean and not too crowded beach.

Not so good:
Worn and stained carpet in the room; worn furniture (e.g. glass panels had fallen off a side table and were left in a corner of the room);
Old ironing stains on bed sheets;
Capacity issues at both breakfast and (small) pools;
Pool area actually very small (website image does not reflect reality) and is packed quickly with tons of kiddies in both pools, so not very relaxing to say the least;
Lobby bar ambiance non-existent due to constant traffic of guests coming and going.

All in all a very average experience for close to 700 USD for 2 nights, including breakfast. But to be fair, I think it fits the general problem that Miami Beach has; overpriced and over-hyped.

Next time we'll stay in one of the excellent downtown hotels.

Dear MMSGeneva, thank you for choosing us as your accommodation for your 2-night stay on Miami Beach. We appreciate you taking the time to write a review of your stay with us and express both your good and not so good impressions after your visit to property. We are happy to see your comments regarding the spaciousness and views of our room accommodation; we are also thrilled to read that our front office staff were nothing but courteous and helpful when assisting you in the duration of your stay; we also appreciate the fact that you have found our beach area, directly accessible from hotel premises, as clean and not crowded. We do wish to take the time and apologize for failing to meet your expectations in some other aspects of your visit. We apologize for the shortcomings you noticed within your suite; our housekeeping team does shampoo and treat both the carpets and furniture onsite regularly. We furthermore take the time to entirely replace the carpeting on property once every year. We will be sure to focus on inspecting guest rooms into more detail going forward. While the first level family pool area does tend to get busy, we do offer two alternatives- the beach area and our 7th floor adults tranquility pool, where tranquility is easier to find. We are sorry our Lobby Bar did not meet your preferences and thus we may suggest you also try our 7th floor Sunset Bar, which offers a happy hour that can be enjoyed in a more relaxed and private setting. It is to our regret to learn that you will not be returning to our property in the future. We do hope, however, that you will be willing to give us a second chance in the future, before you head to the Downtown area.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable stay.

The staff was generally very happy to assist with any need. Rooms are very large for Miami, and well-furnishied. The 2nd bathroom's worth becomes readily apparent when mutiple people need to use it! Please get a balcony room on the north side of the property, the view is worth it!

There are many families staying at the property, and as such, the adults only pool on the 7th floor is a great option for a late afternoon nap or some hot tub relaxation.

Some of the items to withhold the 5-star rating:

The double pools should be a great amenity, however there is far too much tree coverage to allow sun in at all times of the day. A few trees would have been fine, though there are far too many for true sun-bathing. Thankfully, the beach is mere steps away.

As for the beach, while I know this is a resort-type hotel, I do believe the beach chairs should be complimentary. Maybe charge for the umbrella, though paying each day for the chair is a bit much. However, it is an all-day rental, so you can come and go without repaying. This is a plus.

I do feel the waitstaff is not as great as they would be if "suggested" gratuity was not automatically added into each bill. There is no incentive for good service. This may be resort industry standard, and I will admit to not being a seasoned resort guest, however I do not see how this practice creates exceptional service. The waitstaff was not bad, however service did not seem to be a top priority.

Overall, this is a great place to stay if you want out of the hustle and bustle of South Beach, but want to be a short cab ride away from it. Very clean hotel, 5 years old, and good amenities for the price.

While I may not stay here again, as I rarely repeat anywhere, I will not hesitate to recommend this hotel to those desiring its amenties at the value price they do truly deliver.

Room Tip: Highest floor possible on the North side of hotel. Great views!

We had a quite spacious room large enough for a king size bad for me and my wife and a queen size bad for our 13 years old son.
The hotel is well located just in front of the beach which is connected to one of the swimming pools of the hotel.
The car valet parking was very professional like all the personnel working in the hotel.

Grand beach hotel is located at a goo location around 10mn taxi drive from Art Deco district. Hotel has a nice beach, however you need to pay for the chairs as this is not included in the room rate, surprising for this kind of a hotel. Rooms look nice although prepare for a mattress on plywood board and not a comfortable box spring, well below the standards for this kind of a hotel. Staff seems seriously demotivated with only some exceptions,as there are clearly people who want to make your stay enjoyable. Service, which service?, prepare for arrogance and lack of service. let me start: we arrive with two children at 1400, get our room nr only 1,5h later, and it took 45mn for the luggage to arrive in our room.... Parking: without a question being asked somebody jumped in the car and reparked the car without exchanging a word with the rest of the family in the car. During check in at 1400 no guidance was given on when the room would be available, where we could have lunch, where facilities were located to fe have lunch or to go out for a swim and for the kids to get changed. Complaint handling with the manager resulted in a 20mn wait before he arrived and the only answer was that check in was at 1600 so effectively they were fast in getting us settled in the room at 1615-1630. Don't try to call reception or room service as phone is not being answered, you are required to walk down... Next time I go for hilton, grand Hyatt again

It is our hope that you can believe us when we say that your experience is most certainly not the norm in our hotel. In particular, the service you experienced seem well off of our normal levels of engagement and professionalism. We appreciate you for informing us of your troubles with front desk service staff and valet parking. The appropriate department has been notified and will be sure to investigate and correct the issues you have experience. While our official check-in time is 4pm /16:00/ and we truly cannot guarantee an early check-in for early arrivals, as those depend entirely upon availability on that day, we do agree that more detailed and informative guidelines should have been extended to you and your family in regards to amenities and services you could take advantage of while waiting for your room to become available, such as free luggage storage at concierge and use of pool and beach areas with complimentary towel service. We are truly sorry to hear that your stay fell below your vacation expectations. After a bit of an issue trying to organise some champagne for our arrival, the hotel staff were actually good and very friendly ( I abandoned trying to organise the champagne). The lobby is welcoming and attractive. The bar area is within the open aspect of the lobby and feels a little strange in the mist of the traffic of travellers when trying to enjoy a drink and catching up. The room we were allocated was very nice and large with a fridge for your own items. Tea and coffee making facilities, free wifi, iPod Dock, safe, all very useful. Robes for your use and the additional half bath was also very convenient. Our room was on the side of the hotel with a view which over looked the bay and the ocean with a table and two chairs - very nice. We ate breakfast at the hotel which may seem expensive but the range of food available was perfectly acceptable with constant top-ups of freshly squashed orange juice. We did not use the family pool area, preferring the adults only pool on the 7th floor. Private access to the beach with foot showers just off the family pool area was good. The location is towards surf side rather than south beach so much quieter but a little too far to walk to south beach although we did walk it, once!. We used taxis all the time we were there. Our only suggestion would be for the hotel to email its customers prior to arrival to ask about anything they may need to make their stay more comfortable.
