We stayed from Friday through to Monday. In April 2014. We had an ocean view balcony room. The service at the front desk was helpful and courteous on check in and the concierge made good recommendations for restaurants. What was disappointing was the balcony we had paid a significant premium for: the plants in pots on the balcony merely served to attract Mosquitos that made the balcony virtually unusable.
As other reviewers have mentioned the hotel is popular with "bachelorette parties". Some of the groups were pretty rowdy during the day and were encouraged to drink cocktails in the pool by staff. South Beach is a party venue and so is this hotel. I wouldn't recommend staying here with young children or if you are looking for a quiet relaxing time by the pool during the day.

Room Tip: Don't bother paying the large premium for a ocean view balcony room

Batchworthboys,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am very sorry to hear that the mosquitos on the balcony disrupted your stay. We are taking a proactive approach to controlling them and hope that next time you will not have a similar experience. We try to balance the needs of our guests seeking the South Beach experience with those seeking a relaxing one. I am sorry if there was any disruption by the pool from other guests. We do hope you consider to giving us another chance.

Warm regards,

Nick

Good location, good infrastructure, good rooms, good staff.

Several little things to improve:

1. Don't charge the pool apart, I'd rather pay more from the begining than being received with this annoying surprise after a long trip.

2. Improve cleanliness. Dirt behind the drawers,
looks like it had never been cleaned. Blankets and sheets were stained.

3. Improve communication. I've asked for local calls rates and they told me it was 10 cents per minute, but the bill was 1 dollar per call. I've asked for the car and had to wait more than half an hour. Because of this slowness, before going to the airport I've asked for it with 40 minutes in advance, but when I was checking out they took the car again to the parking lot without advice and had to wait another 15 minutes.

John_Yunez,

Thank you for the recent stay and sharing your experience with us. I do apologize that we let you down. The items regarding valet and housekeeping will be addressed immediately. The resort fee charge is still under review as we have many people that appreciate the beach chairs being included. Once again, thank you for the feedback, and we hope to see you again.

Kind regards,

Nick

A five star stay to celebrate a very special anniversary! Thank you to all involved in making our stay so special, we really appreciate the Kimpton Hotel group and Surfcomber Miami South Beach.

Valet: We arrived about 6pm Easter Sunday, things were a bit chaotic (always) on Collins Ave, this is a very popular place to stay and valet was busy. Kudos to the valet staff. They were so nice and moved everything along efficiently. In what seemed like moments we were whisked to the lobby along with our baggage and before we knew it we had a glass of Prosecco in our hands. Overnight parking is $39.

Check In: We were told to kick back and relax and our things were being brought to our rooms. The front desk staff (Luz and the other really nice young woman working forgot her name!) were fabulous. They gave us some ideas for dinner which we used every night of our stay.

Room: Great room overlooking the pool and view of the ocean (2nd floor). We went on the private deck to find champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries waiting for us. WONDERFUL. Rooms are small, bathrooms are small, I believe the hotel was originally built in the late 30s?

Grounds: This place is beautiful. Take the time to walk around and see all of the landscape, flowers, colorful places to sit, cows (yes cows), cabana sitting areas, pool, bar. Nice!

Resort Fee: $20 per day ($22.60 with tax). We had a card that said resort fee includes access to daily activities ranging from mixology seminars, kids ice cream breaks to guided deco bike tours. We didn't see any of those but we did take advantage of the hotel's art deco walking tour with Chris that we highly recommend. There is coffee, iced coffee, tea in the lobby area from 6-10am, resort fee includes 2 beach chairs daily. Rental fee for an umbrella was $19. At the pool there is sunscreen, fruit flavored iced water available. From 5-6pm there is a hosted wine hour in the lobby.

Staff: As we sat by the pool relaxing our first full day a staff member came by and we started talking. His name is Chris and he is a great asset to the hotel. He answered all of our questions and gave us some great ideas about things to do and see during our stay.

Thank you again to the general manager and staff at this hotel, you made our celebration so special.

I planned a group of friends for a getaway from California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts and Toronto we couldn't have been happier with our selection of the Surfcomber for our South Beach getaway. The concierge Brad was amazing in helping me plan a great agenda of restaurants, sights and activities for us to do while in South Beach. Great morning yoga on the beach, bike ride along the boardwalk and a daily wine hour are some of the few free amenities that are offered. Right in the heart of South Beach, this smaller hotel offers all the amenities and great service all around, including Vinny at the beach to help with beach chairs and also some great photo taking. Looking forward to heading back.

We stayed at the Surfcomber, South Beach for 2 nights during April 2014. The weather was hot and sunny. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly so 10/10 for service. The rooms were quite small when compared to others I have stayed in but most of the hotels in this area are older buildings that have been renovated over the years and this is how it it. The bathroom was also very small and compact but did not cause us a problem. The room was comfortable and clean with all the services we needed for our stay.

Pool area was superb and pool staff could not do enough to help. Meals and drinks were expensive when compared with other areas in the USA but not when compared with other areas in Miami. An English type breakfast for 2 cost around 40 US dollars and a coke around 6 dollars so you will need to take sufficient monies with you.

The hotel is in a superb position backing onto South Beach, situated on Collins Avenue and just 2 blocks down from the popular Lincoln road shopping, eating, drinking zone which is a hive if activity during day and night. Again prices are pretty steep if you want to eat out in Miami so take care. We visited the Nexxt Cafe situated on Lincoln Road which was superb and quite reasonably priced for a meal, meals every large and was recommended by hotel staff who also use this.

Despite the hotel prices being what we considered expensive, you could not fault the service, location, cleanliness and if only they could modify their prices it would be perfect. We would definitely stay here agin when we visit Miami next.

Room Tip: You need to ask for a room in a quiet part of the hotel particularly if you have families as this is...

AndB,

We are very happy to hear you had such a great time at Surfcomber! We will be sure to share the feedback with the team. The team works hard to create a memorable experience for all, so we really appreciate the kind words. We encourage you to come back in some of the quieter months such as June, September or October; during this time we have some of the best deals! Once again thank you for your business, and we hope to see you soon!

We just spent three nights at Surfcomber and we miss every minute of our stay there.
The hotel is modern, comfortable, sophisticated and unpretentious in an extremely good way...
The pool area and outside bar are great and our favorite spot was definitely the beach club!
We loved spending the days laying at the beach, being pampered by the great team they have there.
The happy hour wine time is, as everything at this hotel, a relaxed experience and they frequently add some delicate appetizers that were delicious.
Location couldn't be better, AT the beach, close to the bars, Ocean Drive and Lincoln Rd.
We slept well, had no problems with noise.
Actually, we had no problems at all.

I would like to start by saying it was an awesome weekend with my BFF! The staff at the Surfcomber from the doormen who greeted us were very friendly. When we arrived the young lady who checked us in was not very friendly and in fact made us feel like we had made the wrong choice. We arrived early and check-in was later, I explained we were a large group (8) and if woe get one room earlier it would very helpful....not happening. So we left and made our way to the beach and from that moment EVERYTHING CHANGED! We met Vinnie (wonderful young man) we wanted to take him home! he's a star on the beach! Thanks Vinnie! Then our next and most wonderful experience happened we met Michelle Colbertaldo (Director of Guest Experiences) and that's when we fell in love with everything Surfcomber! Michelle is what makes an experience! She was AWESOME and we were made to feel special and our GUEST EXPERIENCE was the BEST! Thanks Michelle you will be missed by the Kimpton Family! I Also want to give mention to Kenneth Walker( great job), Martin (who arranged our transportation back to the airport)..thanks and to Jenny who booked a nice tour for me and my BFF....you are all excellent employees and I would hire all of you to work for me.!
Keep up the great work team!
Paola and her girls from Toronto!

toronto9,

Perhaps the Surfcomber was made for BFF weekend getaways! I am very happy to hear you and the girls had such a great stay. I'm sorry that the stay started off on the wrong foot, but happy to hear that we were able to correct immediately. Be sure to round up the girls and come back soon!
