For my wife's 60th Birthday weekend, we flew to South Beach and stayed at the Surfcomber for 2 nights. Great choice. Awesome location with direct beach access but even better hotel staff! Rai and Kenneth couldn't have been more accommodating. The entire staff, from doormen to restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and more than spacious. Well appointed.
Highly recommended. If we return to Miami, our first choice will be The Surfcomber!

Donald H,

Thank you for selecting Surfcomber to celebrate your wife's 60th! She might be mad that you just told everyone on TripAdvisor her age. I think a return trip will get you out of the dog house! Thanks again and we will be sure to pass on the great comments to Rai and Kenneth.

When we checked out of our room, I accidentally left my purse in the drawer. Realizing this 2 hours after we had checked out, we returned in search of my purse. I know exactly where it was. I know exactly what was in it (luckily not my wallet). It was nowhere to be found. I'm sure this gets rationalized- some dumb rich woman left her Coach purse and she'll never miss it. I'm not dumb, I'm not rich, and, unfortunately for Kimpton, I do miss my purse.
The head of housekeeping was sympathetic but unfortunately was unable to make the purse materialize. I do trust that he will make note of my missing property and when something like this happens to the next person, he will make changes in his housekeeping staff.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the neighboring hotels have no view, but are quiet. The pool is very loud during the d...

My cousin and I are from Texas and decided to get away for the 4th of July weekend and had a great time! Our rooms were ready and everyone at the front desk were polite. The hotel was clean and everyone who worked there greeted us my our name and made us feel special. The front desk lady (Rai') was very helpful to us. She always kept a smile on her face and had great customer service. Need good people like her in the Lone Star State. I truly recommend this hotel to others and if Rai' is there working, ask for her. Hopefully I'll be back to visit Miami!

Dlmiller6423-

Thank you for sharing your great experience! Rai is relatively new at Surfcomber and continues to make our guest's stay memorable. Try checking out some other Kimpton properties we have in Austin and Dallas. They might not be as great as Rai, but will still provide excellent service! Look foward to seeing you soon.

We stayed at the hotel 2 times (on arrival from Europe for 2 nights and after a Florida tour for another 4 nights) and it was ok. I picked the Surfcomber because of its location and rating on trip advisor and I must say that it does not live up to the rating of number 8 hotel in Miami South Beach.

Positives; location is good, the beach is great, the staff are helpful and friendly, management respond to issues / complaints and try to rectify efficiently.

Negatives; rooms are small, upgrades to a pool / courtyard view do not have a view, the rooms are a bit dirty (finger marks on doors, bedding old, carpets dirty), the hotel could do with renovating, the elevator is unreliable, sound proofing (room to room) poor, sound proofing (room to corridor) bad, air conditioning noisy, shower water temperature fluctuates between hot and cold.

I really do not understand the $20 per night "resort charge". There is no way of opting out of the charge so the price is $20 per night more than advertised which is ok, but why not just put the price up unless there is some misleading sales practice at play? Also if you need more than the 2 sun beds included in the "resort charge" add $13 for additional sun beds and $19 per umbrella, so we (3 people) were paying $51 per day over the resort charge to be on the beach.

Everything at the hotel has a 19% service charge added but each bill has a "Tip" line pressurizing guests to add additional tips which I believe is wrong there should be one or the other, not both! Note this 19% addition is common in all restaurants in South Beach.

All in all we had a good time but will not stay at the Surfcomber again.

Laurence A,

Thank you for the recent stay and sharing your candid feedback. We are really sorry that we did not meet all of your expectations. We appreciate you highlighting some positives including our service and employees. We will certainly do as much as we can to reduce the list of negatives. Just to help clarify the resort fee. The $20 resort fee covers two chairs per room in addition to complimentary sunscreen by the pool, fruit infused water, magazines, and other amenities by the pool. We will consider the rest of your comments in future decisionmaking. We really would love to earn back your business.

Kind Regards,

Nick

My husband and I spent just a couple of nights at the Surfcomber while on a layover between flights. It was our first time visiting Miami, which can be slightly overwhelming at times. We really loved the Surfcomber as it was a relaxing resort that met all of our needs. Unfortunately it rained most of the time that we were there, so we didn't get to enjoy the beach as much as we'd hoped. The pool was really refreshing and we especially enjoyed the hotel restaurant and bar. We were able to walk to some other clubs in the evening, so the Surfcomber was definitely in a great location. Now that we've been to Miami and have gotten a sense of what the city has to offer, we're looking forward to going back and would definitely return to the Surfcomber!

Had the best time at surfcomber this summer. The staff were really nice and helpful, the rooms were clean and nice. There were complimentary refreshments in the morning and also in the afternoon (5pm was sangria time!). During the world cup they had a massive screen placed with seats for people to watch and it was near the beach. The people working on the beach were great too. The lady Andrea looked after us in a superb fashion while we were enjoying our time at the beach. Another guy James as well did a great job! You cant go wrong if u stay here
