Owner description: The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU is the only Museum dedicated to telling the story of 250 years of Florida Jewish heritage, arts and culture. The museum is housed in two adjacent lovingly restored historic buildings, at 301 Washington Avenue on South Beach, that were once synagogues for Miami Beach's first Jewish congregation. The museum's focal point is its core exhibit, "MOSAIC: Jewish Life in Florida, 1763 to Present" and its temporary history and art exhibits that change periodically. A Collections and Research Center, several films, Timeline Wall of Jewish history, museum Store filled with unique items and Bessie's Bistro complete the experience for visitors of all ages and backgrounds. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

“Excellent presentation of Jewish History in Florida”

I went to see the museum today and was a bit lost when I arrived, Myrna from the museum came over to me and oriented me to the museum and later let me know when a film about the museum was starting. The exhibits and presentation in the museum were very informative and a must see for anyone staying in South Beach. Today was also the presentation of Sephardi Voices which was introduced by Dr Henry Green, it is the story of the Jews from Arab lands who have become refugees and their plights, the presentation included two films and two refugee speakers. The presentations were riveting.

“a warm, friendly, informative place to see”

The exhibits brought back memories of my childhood. The lady in the gift store (which has wonderful gifts) gave us a short introductory tour. It is a very enjoyable experience and if you are hungry, there are delicious snacks and food in the small restaurant.

“Interesting”

As a non-Jew, I found this museum absolutely jam- packed with photographs, information and artefacts on the history of the Jewish people of Florida. If you are only interested in Holocaust, don't bother.
The staff were friendly and informative. There is so much to see that a whole day could easily have been spent there. From early history of orange farming to modern day restaurants, Nobel prizes to everyday Jewish life, it's all there.
It is well worth a visit.
I especially enjoyed the old poster exhibition which wasn't permanent, unfortunately.

small museum, but very interesting guide !
You learn about the Jews in Miami Beach. A bit chaotic perhaps, but something to do on a could day (or a too hot day)
