Owner description: The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU is the only Museum dedicated to telling the story of 250 years of Florida Jewish heritage, arts and culture. The museum is housed in two adjacent lovingly restored historic buildings, at 301 Washington Avenue on South Beach, that were once synagogues for Miami Beach's first Jewish congregation. The museum's focal point is its core exhibit, "MOSAIC: Jewish Life in Florida, 1763 to Present" and its temporary history and art exhibits that change periodically. A Collections and Research Center, several films, Timeline Wall of Jewish history, museum Store filled with unique items and Bessie's Bistro complete the experience for visitors of all ages and backgrounds. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

This small museum housed in the first synagogue in Miami Beach tells the story of the Jewish experience in FL. Very interesting to learn about the history beginning with those with Ponce de Leon in St. Augustine in the 1500's. It's nearby to South Beach. I also ate in an Israeli kosher little restaurant nearby that the helpful, friendly staff at the museum told me about; they served falafel, humus, salad, swarma, etc. The entrance fees are very reasonable--about $6.

The museum is housed in a building that was previously a Jewish Temple. The docent and I am so sorry I can't remember her name was just incredible. She was so nice, friendly and informative. The museum is also walking distance to the Holocaust Monument. Lots of information of the history of Jews in Miami and their contribution to the community as well as the challenges of the past.

Helpful staff and a really fascinating museum covering the (Jewish) history of the area; extremely well set out, and most appealing to those even from the far flung antipodean diaspora.

Great history lessons of the Jewish community, faith, culture and ways. Nice cafe too. Not a museum you'd want to bring your kids too, as its not something like a science museum with dinosaurs, more of a serious historic atmosphere.

I am always impressed when we are reminded that the diverse cultural landscape which makes up the people living and working around Miami Beach today was not always the case. Turning back the clock, the practice of discrimination of race, religion and sexuality was rampant in Miami Beach. It is positive to see such centers remind us all of a rich cultural and historic heritage that survived and today thrives!
