Owner description: We are a small Garden, just 2.6 acres, with a very big mission! We call ourselves an urban oasis in the middle of the glitz and neon of South Beach, a place where locals and visitors can come and enjoy the numerous cultural and artisitic programs that the Garden has to offer. Created as a Miami Beach city park in 1962, the Garden was rejuvenated in the fall of 2011 with a $1.2 Million landscape renovation by acclaimed South Florida landscape architect Raymond Jungles. We invite you to discover the new features of the Garden – a wetland with red mangrove and pond apple trees, an expansive water garden with cascading oolite fountain, a welcoming entrance plaza, and diverse collection of flowering trees, palms, cycads, orchids, bromeliads and Florida native species.

“Not worth it”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

The park is very small. Would not recommend visiting unless you are in the area and have 20 mins to kill before a show at the convention centre.

Ouch! Such a churlish review! We KNOW we are small - we advertise our mere 2.6 acre size everywhere we can, to set expectations appropriately. This was the space allotted to us by the City of Miami Beach a half century ago, and we are stuck with it. But most reviewers, and local residents, agree that we do a tremendous amount with what we have - beautiful specimens of palms and bromeliads, a lovely Japanese Garden, a Native Garden, and edible garden. Moreover, we are an important cultural platform in Miami Beach and the Garden serves as a spectacular venue for environmental activities, musical activities, and Green Living. Did you take our free cell phone audio tour of the Garden? Perhaps on your next visit, you will take the time to do so (it's just over 20 minutes in length, the amount of time you spent at the Garden). For others reading this, please remember: 1) Yes, we are small; 2) We are beautiful and well-maintained; 3) We are FREE!; 4) We have free WiFi; and 5) We are open Tuesday through Sundays, 9 am to 5 pm!

“An often overlooked gem”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

This is a small botanical garden in the middle of Miami Beach. It is an oasis not to be overlook. It is best to go early morning or late afternoon, especially in the summer when it may be too hot for some people. They have several varieties of palms, a small collection of bromeliads and other plants that attract butterflies. It also has a small Japanese Garden. It is open 9-5 pm and it is FREE! Take the Local Miami Beach bus for $0.25 cents to get there.

Great location to take a break, meet friends or bring your kids and grand kids. Attend the monthly Miami Beach Garden Club meetings during the season. Enjoy the different events such as the Wednesday Farmers Market, The Taste of the Beach . . .

“Bad internal communications or just bad management?”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

My wife and I wanted to see the Botanical Garden and had planned this visit during our stay here at SoBe. When we showed up at 1150 AM June 10th we were met with locked gates and signs saying that the garden was closed for a private event from 1250. Reckoning an hour would be enough to see the garden, we asked whether we could enter, as according to the signs, the garden should still be open for an hour before the private event was to begin. An employee of the garden told us that the garden was closed, but that we could come back later. We didn't have the possibility of coming back as we're about to travel home, so we asked again, this time pointing directly to the signs saying that the garden was closing at 1250, not 1150. The employee went to talk to a woman (referred to as the general manager) in the garden and came back shortly after, telling us that the garden was closed despite whatever the signs said. When we objected to this, the answer was "She's the general manager" like this would make matters any better. We then left the garden disappointed.

Using an attraction for private purposes is perfectly fine and a good way of securing funds for the operations side of business, so this is totally understandable. But this place really needs to get its internal communications right or have management be seriously reminded that when dealing with your guests, courtesy and service are the most important parts of making your attraction valued and visited by more people.

The Miami Beach Botanical Garden apologizes profusely to our Danish visitors for the difficulty they had earlier this week in trying to visit our beautiful little Garden. We sincerely apologize. The vast majority of our private events are held when the Garden is closed (typically, these are evening weddings and receptions held after our 5 pm closing time). But there was a one-time only request to use the Garden at noon time over three days for a corporate lunch celebration. The event was important for our bottom line (rentals are a large part of our revenue, since there is no admission fee to the Garden). Most unfortunately, you arrived on Day One of this event, and we obviously had not adequately coordinated with the event staff and our own staff about the exact hour of closing, nor had we put up adequate signage explaining these special circumstances. Please come back next time you are in South Florida, and if you can give us advance notice, we will provide you with your own personal tour of the Garden.
