Disappointing. We needed a place to stay for a couple of nights during an expensive, yet totally dead week (the week between Christmas and New Years) and were hoping to get in a little Miami luxury without overpaying for a Wednesday (rooms at the usual Delano, etc were going for 400-800 a night). Found Breakwater and jumped on their deal in advance, the opening special only $250 a night for a lux hotel on Ocean! Too good to be true.
In short, this place is like a cheap apartment with freshly redesigned rooms. I've had more luxury at a Hilton Garden Inn. Biggest downfalls are the lack of pool/spa/lounge scene promised on the website, and windows/walls that block 0% of sound ( I didnt mind the partying noises till 3 am, but the delivery trucks at 5, and the maids at 8...???there's no window of reasonable silence here) I really wish I would've sprung for a proven luxury hotel. If I was going to be here longer I'd definitely switch hotels. This is no place to vacation, just an overpriced crash pad. We spent our days/nights hanging out at other hotels until it was time to sleep.
Pros: breakfast was actually delicious, walking dist to lots of stuff including The Clevelander bar next door which was a trashy but hilariously fun way to end the night after making all the posh rounds. Staff was generally helpful and friendly.
Cons: everything encompassed by promising a boutique luxury hotel and delivering on about 5% of that. They should be required to inform you in advance that their pool is not opening or near completion, and shouldn't be able to advertise a rooftop with a few lounge chairs thrown out there as a "lounge" or "scene" of any type. No music, no pool, no bar service on the roof... Even the downstairs restaurant was vacant. Yes the beach chairs are free, but an umbrella is $12, sunblock $15.. No drinks there either. I guess I was still expecting a better than minimum offering at some point. Total amenities
fail. Normally I'd write complaint letter to the company for a bad experience, but this is more of a false-advertising/buyer beware kind of situation. Ignore the website, it's nothing like that.
