We stayed here a few years ago and noticed an obvious upgrade in the training of the staff. The staff were courteous, friendly, and enthusiastic - whether at the buffet, beach restaurant, or making a wake-up call. Everyone asked if they could do more for us and seemed to really mean it. We've read the bad reviews and can't imagine these people stayed at the same property.
We stayed on an Amex promotion and got an upgrade to a room overlooking the pool with a large balcony on the third floor. It's true the shower seemed a little tight, but the luxurious marble bathroom was huge as was the room. It was all very clean and well maintained. Also true, our room didn't get cleaned until after lunch, but we had no problem getting enough clean towels or toiletries. In addition, when we requested more towels or tea they were brought immediately. We also like that fact that the turn down service included both milk and dark chocolates and that the complimentary tea/coffee service included many choices of tea. The Bulgari soaps provided were a nice touch.
The hotel is located on Lincoln Rd just off of Collins, providing easy access to the beach and eating/drinking/shopping establishments on Lincoln Rd., which is one of the reasons we chose to stay here again. The hotels provides complimentary beach chaises, but charges $20 for an umbrella - which is a worth it...We stayed here a few years ago and noticed an obvious upgrade in the training of the staff. The pool area feels intimate in comparison to some of the new mega resorts (i.e. The Fountainbleu).
Re: pricing. Please note that an 18% tip is automatically added to everything, from breakfast buffet to bar drinks. The spa is offering a great happy hour deal. On certain days of the week and at certain hours you can get 25% off, you just have to ask about it.
We had breakfast and lunches at the hotel. The buffet included a great selection of fresh fruits, champagne, and some of the best orange juice we've ever had. We really enjoyed lunch at Delido. They serve the largest local shrimp, great salads, and drinks. We especially enjoyed the frozen mojito. Unfortunately, Delido is closed on rainy days.
We definitely plan to visit again especially if the Amex promotion which included free night, free internet, free parking, and free breakfast continues to be offered.More
