We stayed 3 nights in room 109 at the chelsea. We got a superb deal on priceline for $247 (including direct flights from JFK and the hotel), and honestly I do not know how we got such a deal for a hotel of this quality. It is a quaint boutique hotel 2 blocks from the beach. The room was 100% clean, and all of the fixtures seemed brand new. The plasma on the wall was large and the decor was swanky.

Simply put, the staff was extraordinary. They were cordial, professional, and all very personable. The bar staff and wait staff get two thumbs up as well.

The room size was normal for an art deco south beach hotel. Exactly what we expected.

The toiletries were nice, and the open bar from 7-8 was included in our room rate.

Try the burger at the restaurant. It is the best in south beach by a long shot.

Stayed at the Chelsea at the start of feb and had a really nice time. The staff was very nice and laid back. Yes the halls are dark and the room could be better lighted but this didnt bother us. The hotel is small, unique, nicely decorated. The rooms had flat screen tv's, comfortable beds, cool bathroom. Free happy hour daily and we had 3-4 drinks in that happy hour which worked out well. The location is nice, right in the heart of south beach and 2 blocks from the beach itself. At night we sat outside the hotel in their front dining area and had drinks and smoked hookas which was also really nice. We did get the 10 dollar extra daily fee on our hotel bill at the end but its ok. Overall, this is a great place for young singles and couples who are looking to enjoy the south beach experience but i would probably not recommend it for a family.

Hey Guys
I was a little reluctant at first but like others I was pleasnatly suprised. Its clean, neat, and very ZEN happy hour all you can get down in and hour, Free shuttle from the airport just have to time that right and good location. Drug store,Liquor store,Fatburger across street, and 2 blocks from ocean dr. This hotel I would rate at about 3 1/2 out of 5 but I was very pleased and felt it was worth the money what a great bed Hhahaha good luck

  • Liked — The Zen style, free happy hour
  • Disliked — found and extra charge on the end not on the bill

I was a little weary after reading the reviews on the Chelsea, but could not have been more thrilled with the hotel. I think we got especially lucky with the room. I booked it for $99CDN a night on Expedia and the only extra charge we paid was $1.00 for a call I made to order our cab. I called the hotel after I booked and put in a request for a king sized bed... well we were assigned room 104 and just looking at the fire escape map on the door I could tell it was way bigger than the rest of the rooms on the floor.

We had a nice (very comfy) king sized bed with great fluffy pillows, and a whole sitting area with a couch, a couple chairs, great flat screen TV, and then a whole bar set up with another chair in the corner. The bathroom was gorgeous with all slate tiles, above counter sink, and double shower heads (plenty of hot water both times I showered). Yes, the room was dark but we just opened the windows when we wanted some light during the day and I thought it made a really nice ambience at night with the dim light. The lighting in the bathroom was perfectly fine for putting on makeup so I'm not sure where that comment came from or if we just had different lighting...

The free drinks from 7-8 were great! We tipped $1 for 2 drinks each time we went up (yes, maybe I'm cheap but that's what we tipped) and probably made 5 trips back - the bartender would see us coming and already be making what we'd ordered last time by the time we got up to the bar. The sitting area outside is sooo cool - it started to rain for a bit when it got close to 8:00 so we moved inside one of the little cabana things to discover it had a flat screen TV inside... so we were set there for a while with a few drinks, "couches" and a TV to hang out before heading out for some food.

The ONLY bad thing about the room we stayed in was that it was right next to the lobby, where (even on a Wednesday night) they play loud music LATE (the last time I woke up and looked at the clock it was 4:30 I think... when I woke again at 5:30 it was off). We were so thrilled with the whole experience there though (and had had a few drinks and were tired) so it didn't really bother us and we slept just fine. I actually just laughed when I saw it was 4:30 and they were STILL playing music!

Front desk was great - flight check in service computer (you can print out your boarding pass there) was a nice bonus as was the free wireless internet in the lobby. We didn't get charged any resort fee (maybe because we booked through Expedia?), but even if we'd have to pay the $5, the free drinks were more than worth that much so I would have had no problems.

Tip for anyone flying out of Fort Lauderdale - the day before we checked out I ordered a cab through GO Shuttle, and they were there right on time the next day. It's $70 for a nice private car (flat rate) which could save you a lot of money if you get caught in any sort of traffic on the way.

  • Liked — The awesome room and the free drinks in the cabanas on the patio
  • Disliked — The loud music until 4:30... but I got over it pretty fast, it's South Beach!

OK, Lets start with the hotel first. Just like other hotel reviews the room and the hallways are dark. The room was small but after all it is a (boutique European style hotel) The bar did have a nice bartender and happy hour is 7-8 with free vodka & gin drinks. We happen to catch a day that was pretty quiet. When we checked in (around 12:00am) we were told early check in would cost an additional $20 so we decided to take in the beach until 3:00 We had 2 beds that were larger that a twin but smaller than a full size but were comfortable. The bathroom has a glass partioned shower in it that did have sufficient hot water.
As far as the area parking is a problem They have valet parking for $25 or you take your chances on finding a spot on the street thats metered for $1.25 an hour. The beach is only 2 blocks away with alot of little cafes and restaurants along Ocaen Dr. Alot of the restaurants offer 50% off everything on the menu and 2 for 1 drinks but BEWARE of the drink special. The price of the drinks were not on the menu and when we recieved are tab are drinks were $28 apiece

The room was so dark I couldn't read. The A/C blew out loud and furious directly onto one of the beds. When it came on, it was freezing in the cold wind coming from the vent. We actually rigged our own duct work using a sweatshirt and hangers so that we could use the bed. We asked for an extra light in the room and after 5 hours of waiting and 3 requests for status, we finally got a shadeless lamp. The desk personnel apologized and said that they had so many calls for an extra lamp that they ran out !!! Too bad there was absolutely no room to place it except high on a shelf by the air vent. The rooms were tiny. If you were more than one to a room, a second suitcase would have to be placed on the floor. No dressers or surface space to be had. We asked at the desk for directions to a nearby bar & grill for dinner and were given bad directions !!!! I'm never going back - it was ugly.

We came to this hotel after the other place we intended to stay in was overbooked. It is an ok place to be as a single (and the decorations are unique), but not with kids - very dark room (even with all lights on), very small room, no real lobby, etc.
