“First time stay on South Beach”
Reviewed 10 December 2006

I had the pleasure of staying at The Hotel to take part of
of my best friends wedding which was also held there
over the weekend.
The staff at The Hotel were truly professional.
The "personal" touches that I find lack today at many
businesses were not evident at The Hotel.
I will recommend staying here to anyone who wants a
great sense of "Southern hospitality" with a South Beach
flavor.
The rooftop pool, and proximity to the beach made the trip
just perfect

My husband and I and his parents stayed here over thanksgiving break after our caribbean cruise ended in Miami. The central location of the hotel was great, it was just a 5 minute walk to the lovely beach where we got complimentary beach lounge chairs under an umbrella and fluffy beach towels. Just down a block is ocean drive with tons of outdoor cafes and restaurants, a really lively scene all day and all night. The hotel staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive. We were always greeted with smiles and the concierge was super friendly and always asked about our day. There is free wireless in the room and free internet/computer usage in the lobby. They have valet parking but it is more expensive and you have to wait 30 minutes for the car sometimes. We chose instead to park ourselves at the garage down the street (5 min walk) for $15/day. We got a card key that opens the gates at the garage so we could come and go as we wanted. The breakfast at the hotel is awesome, and we ate there everyday (homemade granola and fruit platter and pancakes were all very good). We didn't try the restaurant for dinner but we read that it has gotten great reviews and the menu looked inspiring. My parents-in-law are older and complained about noise in the hallways at night when other party goers were coming home but my husband and I somewhat expected a little noise and weren't that bothered by it. Oh and for no apparent reason, they sent up a bottle of champagne for my husband and I the first night. They had asked us at check-in if we were newly weds and we said no but maybe they didn't hear that. Anyway, it was a very nice touch.

  • Liked — Super friendly service
  • Disliked — Some light sleepers might find some noise at night

We selected The Hotel because we were going to So. Beach to a wedding and the rehearsal dinner was in their garden. We had a marvelous stay:
-the rooms vary from lovely and spacious to very small but all are clean and well-decorated in Art Deco style.
-it is very well located
-the food at the garden restaurant was excellent
-the roof pool is divine with a glorious view of the ocean and lots of palm trees
-Best of all, the entire staff made our 4 night stay unforgettable. They were absolutely wonderful!!!

I booked this hotel after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. however, I have to say I was slightly apprehensive after all the mention of thin walls and noisy rooms, but decided to stick with it. The hotel is on Collins Ave, just 30 metres back from Ocean Drive so in terms of location it is absolutely fine. It joins Ocean Drive about 2/3 of the way along so is right in the centre of lots of bars, restaurants etc.
on arrival, staff were really friendly. Our room: good points were that the bed was fantastic, huge and really comfortable. There was plenty of storage space, the air con worked really well and the bathroom was large and clean with a great shower. The bad points were that the room had no natural light (room 105) as all the four windows had frosted coating on them as we overlooked the service road between Ocean Drive and collins Ave. In terms of noise, we were not disturbed by any other guests but at 6.30am every morning we were awoken by the garbage truck as our room directly overlooked the hotel trash area and the skip was emptied every day. This was a bit of a downer! The carpet in the room also had some quite big marks on and the shower curtain was partly hanging off but other than that it was clean. Some parts of the hotel were a bit dark with strange lighting but all in all it had an ok feel. However, the rooftop pool was the jewel of this hotel, it was absolutely fantastic and like being in another world. Decent sized pool (heated too) with plenty of comfortable loungers with lovely white towels on them all around it and great view of the ocean. Food up here was great and reasonably priced, served by very trendy looking staff who were easy going. No feel of pretentiousness which we saw plenty of whilst in South Beach! Tip - get up here early to grab a good lounger, particularly on a Saturday and Sunday. The hotel gym is also up here and that was fantastic, overlooking the pool with really good equipment. Clientele was trendy but not over the top, overall a nice mix of people. We saw most of the other 'famous' SoBe hotels including the Tides, the Delano etc but were glad that we hadn't splashed out 700 or 800 dollars a night to stay there - I think The Hotel is really good value in Miami Beach.

  • Liked — The rooftop pool and the bed!
  • Disliked — the noise and lack of view from bedroom

As soon as we drove up to the hotel, we were greeted by an attendant. When I gave him our name, he already knew about our reservation and helped us settle in before we parked the car at the garage one block away. The interior of the lobby was sumptuous but not cloyingly sweet the way some of Oldham's designs can be. In fact, the decor of the whole place was a surprisingly pleasant maximalist alternative to the overdone minimalism of so many recently redesigned South Beach hotels. In addition to the aesthetics and the almost private pool, the best part about the hotel was the service. We were constantly greeted by name by hotel employees, provided with extra beach towels in case we wanted to invite friends, and made to feel very welcome for a whole day after check out before a late flight out of MIA. We were very impressed, especially for paying such a reasonable price for this part of town.

  • Liked — The service, the look
  • Disliked — Parking was a bit messy at night when partygoers shared the same garage as the hotel
  • Tips/Secrets — The only rooms with views of the ocean are 401 on top and the back four rooms on 3.

I totally lucked out finding this hotel for one night in Miami. From the moment David the doorman met my taxi with a smile and a sense of humour I knew that this was going to be a fun place to stay. I did indicate a Non Smoking room and was given a room that was obviously smoking - the hotel is supposedly going 100% Non Smoking in the next few months, However on requesting another room the front desk staff, Caleb and James, gave me the choice of 2 rooms and let me see them both,. The roof top pool and seperate Spire bar are simple and elegant, and Michael the restaurant manager could not do enough to ensure I had a great stay. Breakfast on the roof beside the pool is a must.

Free internet in the business centre open 24hours - fantastic for someone travelling without lugging a laptop.

The rooms are spacious and well equipped. But its the staff that make the place a pleasure to stay in.

The hotel is one block from the beach but on the great fashion strip and close enough to look over the waves from the roof pool.

I would highly recommend this hotel to singles or couples. Maybe not for kids as it is more for those who like a W hotel.

  • Liked — The staff
  • Disliked — The lift was really slow and its the only way up and down floors
  • Tips/Secrets — eat breakfas ton the pool deck!
