“Great hotel in South Beach”
Reviewed 12 March 2011

We spent 6 days at The Hotel, and had a wonderful time. They have changed their free umbrella policy (only free towels and beach chairs now), but since we had reserved several months earlier and mentioned they had advertised free umbrell rental, they gave that to us. We could only spend two days at the beach, however, because of the high winds, but the other days, we enjoyed the rooftop pool area, which has cabanas that are sheltered from the wind but still let you see the ocean. Our room was lovely, and the bathroom was amazing, with a wonderful rainforest shower. We did experience some walking noice from the room above us (perhaps the floors aren't solid?), but very little noice from Wish, even though our windows were right above the outdoor restaurant. The staff was helpful and accommodating. Restaurants in the area that we really liked were News Cafe, Puerto Sagua (don't miss their wonderful chicken soup), and Thali Indian and Thai (on Washington). Great trip - great hotel.

We stayed there for three nights in February 2011; the location is one block off of the main Ocean Drive and the Ocean Boardwalk; it is an easy stroll to either one. There is a 24 hour cafe within one block which serves great food. The restaruant in the hotel is called "WISH" and we had an absolutely fabulous meal there. Overall, the hotel staff, the concierge, the restaruant staff....all were friendly and thoroughly pleasant.

This is the 3rd time in a row I've stayed at The Hotel, and I don't think I'll be able to stay anywhere else when visiting South Beach. Although everything is great, from cleanliness to location, it's the staff that makes this place. Oh, and the fantastic rooftop pool with a spectacular view of the beach itself!

We stayed at The Hotel for 3 nights in Feb 2011. The rooms are smallish (as are the bathrooms) but stylish, comfortable and very quiet with lots of storage space; but its really all about the cool rooftop pool anyway. Grab a chaise lounge in the morning, order breakfast, lunch and/or drinks while you're up there....there's a view of the ocean a block away and a small gym adjacent to the pool. Best to ask for a room facing the restaurant patio and on a high floor. But we hardly heard any noise during the three days we were there, which is remarkable given the location a block from the beach and right on Collins Avenue. The restaurant (WISH) is a destination, but we chose to eat elsewhere (other than when we had breakfasts and lunches on the roof). A civilized place to stay in the midst of the action.

This is right in the heart of South Beach. Because of the mediocre reviews of the main hotel, we stayed in the newer (atelier) and pricier section of the hotel. The reception desk is on Collins and seemed amateurish and disinterested. Unfortunately, our room was on the second floor right over the News Cafe kitchen on Ocean. It was clean and of reasonable size, very stylishly designed (Todd Oldham) with a good bed and nice amenities. We requested a quiet room, but did not really get one: My wife, who is a light sleeper, could hear the kitchen all night, so you should probably avoid this hotel unless like me you are a very sound sleeper, or try to find a quieter part of town. (Maybe a different location in the hotel.)
The lobby is humble but there is a small porch, The very small (heated?) rooftop pool and bar have a great view. The attached restaurant (Wish) is top-notch and the News Cafe is very good for breakfast and lighter fare and people-watching.
Self-parking is $15 with unlimited in-and-out but two blocks away and inconvenient or $25 for valet. if you self-park, just be sure to return the pass.
This place gets 4 stars for location and style. The price was also good for South Beach. My wife would score it lower because of the noise.

We were on a golf trip with buddies down from the north and usually stay at the Park Central. Favorite feature is the short walk for coffee to news cafe each morning. And the pool on the roof could be the wow factor, but our weather was a little cool for that. I did like that the roof bar and pool are not attached, but both very nice. seemed about 30% more expensive than the Park Central but still reasonable for South Beach. No surprises on bill at check out, nice staff and bar in main lobby. rooms very comfortable and seem a little bigger than usual south beach tiny rooms. conceriege did set up the golf since you have to for advance tee times. Played Crandon Park, Normandy Shores, and Miami Beach golf club, all very good and in great shape.

We stayed in a room in the beach building. I signed up on the website for a gold card
to get a room discount. Also took advantage of a 20% off harcut at vidal sassoon with
the card. Some of the top floor rooms have a humming, vibration noise. It turned out to be the air conditoning units along the roof. When you go out by the pool, it is kind of funny to see all the units lined up. We did ask to switch our room and they were very accomodating.
Big annoyance at check in was that they insisted on making a copy of our drivers license which we refused and even needed to speak with a manager. I was happy to show them for a look BUT no copies. Too much identity theft!

Great location. Great perk of beach chairs/umbrella. Free internet. Reasonable $15 self parking. Would definitely recommend.

We liked these trip advisor restaurants: The burger and beer joint (must drive to) rated #1. Puerto sagua - for breakfast, by the parking garage.
Got a sandwich at Pinocchio deli across the street and a smoothy from wet willy's and headed to the beach.
