“Summer vacation”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

Spent a week at Fountainbleau with my 3 girls, 15,13 and 9. I will start with the positives. The hotel is beautiful. The pools are fabulous and the ocean is right out the back door. The employees at both the pool and beach were helpful. Guest were mostly young adults and the lobby was always busy with fashionable people. Our room was good, pretty standard in size. The bathroom was extremely small, the door always had to be closed to get to the sink and shower. I had no problems with valet. Overall everyone was very helpful but expect to tip well for that courtesy. CONS: I checked in under a "pkg special" and one of the perks was a free upgrade. I was given an ocean view as my upgrade. I asked for a balcony upgrade instead and they said there was none available. I went to my room but returned to guest check-in 5 min later and spoke to another individual. Asked to change rooms, didn't mention the free upgrade and all of a sudden there was a balcony rm for $40 more a night! I didn't say anything and took it. Balcony rm overlooked another buildings roof and 20 loud A/C units. Prices were ridiculous at the restaurants, $6 for a children's glass of chocolate milk, $5.00 for mediocre coffee, $10 bottled water etc. Expect to pay hundreds for every single meal! The hotel is not within walking distance to South Beach and Lincoln Pk so having a car was helpful. This probably isn't the place to bring kids, other than the water there was not really anything for them to do.

Room Tip: Ask if your room is overlooking another building's roof or close to the A/C units. They were ex...

I visited the Fontainebleau first in the late 90s as a college student on a road trip to Miami and a friend's sister was there for work and we all crashed in her room. It was a 1950s style resort, nothing enticing to a younger crowd and the guests at that time seemed to be between 50-60.

What it is today is an amazing massive property with everything you can ever need for a beach resort. Its located about a 10 min cab ride to south beach and there isn't too much around it so if you are staying here, you are planning to make this your main destination. The vision of the renovated property couldn't have been more perfect - Put everything you'd ever need for a beach vacation in one place with the hippest night clubs and people will come and stay and not have to worry about going to different places.

It has everything you need from amazing pool setups , clubs, bars, shops, restaurants, etc. When we went, I believe there was a Robin Thicke/ Pharrell concert that weekend at their bleaulive concert space. There are tons of people milling around and never a dull moment.

So we stayed here for a wedding and didn't quite get to enjoy all the amenities. We did try a couple of the bars inside/out but that was it. We booked a deluxe double room with ocean view and got upgraded to a one bedroom suite in the Tresor tower! yay!! Rm 2-1604 was gorgeous! Absolutely perfect in every way. Customer service was top notch everywhere which amazes me given the monstrosity of the place and all the moving parts. Hats off to them.

I was sad to leave but will definitely be back to really enjoy the place. I spent most of my 20s and early 30s as a Miami beach regular so at this point for me, a place like Fontainebleau would be a perfect beach vacation for me. I'm not looking to hang out at south beach like I did in the past.

I would definitely recommend it only if you are looking to stay and enjoy the facilities. Maybe a romantic weekend, bachelorette weekend, or maybe just a girls trip. Don't stay here if south beach will be your main stomping ground.

P.S There was a daily $19 or $20 fee per room that covered wifi in the rooms and at the pools, Gym access and beach chairs for guest plus some other amenities.

Enjoy my pics!

Lost wallet at the cash machine outside the Timeless shop in the Fontanbleau Lobby in early April of this year. Denny Hutchingson of the shop recovered it intact and returned it to me. Great people who saved our trip, just in time!!

Much appreciated!!

My friend Sarah booked 2 rooms for a long weekend, and it was a great experience for a bachelorette party! The rooms were spacious and the staff was helpful when we needed them. The pools were the best party far, and we recommend getting a cabana for the day if you have enough people for the $1000 minimum bar tab :)

Yahick the maid does a lovely job of cleaning the hotels rooms and has a lovely personality every time you see her. The valet service is slow so give yourself time if you have reservation for anything.

Room Tip: rooms in versalie are quieter.

Holiday trip to Miami Beach was a huge success largely due to extraordinary service on the beach from Pablo Castro. It was our first day and what a great day it was, All before we checked into our rooms!! Rooms were beautiful, and comfortable. Hotel was very busy all week. Michael Mina was fantastic for dinner!!

The Fontainebleau has some very strong positives, and equally strong negatives. I've stayed for a week on two occasions within the last year, so have a fairly good sense of the place. First, the good stuff:

The property, both hotel and beach, are beautiful. The pool is large and wonderful for lounging, and the beach is very easy to access. The lobby and bar are always lively. Some people have commented on the hotel being designed for young partiers, but I enjoyed the vibe of the place. It's a really cool and modern mix of rat pack, fashion show, and high-end club. There are plenty of both families and young singles.

Now, the bad: Checking into the hotel WILL take you an hour. Double the staff is needed, but instead, the hotel has just set up ropes to deal with the lines. And, if you need a new room key, getting a new one WILL take you an hour as well (same line). Also, two of my work colleagues had to wait even longer due to lost reservations.

Second, food and beverage is quite expensive. If you think that $30 eggs and toast in Vegas is pricey...just wait until you see the menus at Fontaineblue. It's unexpected, and a bit disappointing to pay hundreds of dollars for every...single...drink (or meal) for our small group of 4 people.

Third, the staff is everything but attentive. If you are used to staying at the Peninsula, the W, Four Seasons, etc. (heck, even if Marriott is your usual hotel), you'll be sadly disappointed in the staff. There are few of them around, and every interaction makes it seem as though you're asking the world of them. It's quite apparent that the employees are poorly trained and/or suffer from a poor work culture.

Fourth, being that my stays are business-related, internet access is essential. The wireless connections in the room are horrible. For whatever reason, you will get booted off every minute (perhaps the wireless provider is trying to prevent streaming movies??). When connecting to work remotely via VPN, this makes any internet access impossible. On a work trip, this is simply unacceptable.

Lastly, there are very few (perhaps 1-2) restaurants within walking distance. If you like to be in the heart of the city, this hotel is far removed from that.

Room Tip: Try to get ocean view if possible.
