Beacon South Beach Hotel
Ranked #56 of 212 Hotels in Miami Beach
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 11 August 2014

If you are coming to Miami Beach to enjoy the sun, waves and almost-naked people on the beach you will find this right in front of the hotel. Likewise, if you enjoy drinking, dancing and entertainment all night then you will find this within a ten minute walk of the hotel. There is a restaurant and bar at the hotel that is fine especially for breakfast, but usually you will want to explore the larger and more exotic food and beverage venues a few doors down for more entertaining options. This is not a party hotel, the management keeps everything quiet and well-ordered, but when you are ready to party just take a short walk and you will have more party than most of us can handle. The hotel is fairly small and the rooms are of nice quality, although this is nothing too fancy. I will stay here again because I love the location. If you have children this hotel will work nicely but if you are single or young couples and like the nightlife you will really like this place. Watch the price and keep in mind most hotels on Ocean are of similar quality so shop around.

Room Tip: Rooms on the end of the hallways are quieter, but rooms with a view are more expensive.

Extremely convenient location, great rooms especially since the refurb. No pool but the beach is literally a stones throw away.Right next door to Johnny rockets and a variety of other great places to eat and the staff are always eager to help.Have been staying here since 2002 and love it.

Stayed at the Beacon in South Beach for a week with my husband to attend an advanced training course. The location was perfect. Directly across the street from the ocean, along a strip of art-deco hotels and an array of restaurants. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and they always had a smile on their faces and welcomed you upon entry. The hotel was also very clean and the complimentary breakfast was very good every morning. If traveling with family, this hotel is in a VERY lively area with somewhat of a party atmosphere, but otherwise we loved it. There is also some great shopping a block away off Collins Ave.

Stayed here for nine days in July 2014 when it was very hot and humid. In general it was sunny in the mornings with showers in the afternoons which makes the humidity even worse. July/August is considered low season in Miami so be aware of that if you’re going.

The Beacon is an art deco hotel quite near the bottom of Ocean drive and right in all the action. It’s incredibly busy in the evenings. Don’t expect to be able to park a car anywhere. Despite all of the activity and the parties going on in some of the rooms the hotel is reasonably quiet and we got a good sleep. The bed linen was very comfortable We had room 512 which was on the top floor. It had no view to speak of and was very small and since we were divers with equipment bags, all of our luggage lying around the place made it even smaller. I can definitely imagine that the room and bathroom sizes might be a big surprise for some people as this is definitely not your typical US hotel room.

The lift is slow and it’s much faster to take the stairs even to our top floor. There is a computer and printer you can use on the first floor level just above reception. This is also the place where they lay out tea and coffee from early and I think is available until about noon.

An advantage of the Beacon is the complimentary breakfast. It’s waitress served and cooked to order. The choice is quite limited but it’s an advantage as their breakfast would cost you around $15 at another Ocean Drive hotel. However, I have to say that it’s a real pity service only starts at 9am. If you’re a jet lagged European you’ll already have been up for hours and there’s only so many photos that you can take of an empty South Beach.

You can easily walk to Lincoln road, the holocaust memorial and Collins and Washington are behind and parallel to Ocean drive for shopping and more restaurants. The hotel can set you up with trips to visit the Everglades, a citytour, boat trips round the milionaires homes, car rental and so on. The concierge is very helpful. South beach itself is just across the street. The hotel supplies you with chairs, parasols and beach towels. The hotel has no pool and I believe this might be the case for most of the art deco hotels on Ocean drive. If you really must have a pool, you’ll probably have to go to one of the bigger, more modern i.e. not art-deco hotels further North. You can seriously damage your wallet though, South beach is an expensive place.

For a South Beach holiday this is a good choice, I paid in advance to get a better price and I felt that I got a good deal. Be aware that rooms are small and there’s no pool and you can have a very good stay here. I’m going to give it good marks as it’s good value for money considering it’s a genuine art-deco hotel right in the thick of things on Ocean Drive.

Room Tip: Try and get something on the higher floors away from the stairs as everyone's tramping up and do...

Absolutely no complaints on my one night stay. Arrived before 3:00 not only was my room ready but was also was given a free upgrade to an ocean view king room a very pleasant surprise. Complimentary breakfast was very good and service was great. We didn't eat dinner there so I can't comment on that. We had drinks on the patio, they we good but rather pricy but the same as everywhere else. Great location close to everything, no problems I highly recommend this place. I booked through the mobile app at a great rate. AAAA++++

Room Tip: Booked on mobile app great price.

I stayed at Beacon this summer after having looked at many hotels on Trip adviser and we enjoyed our stay.

Beacon is a smal hotel and the rooms are smal but there is lots of value to what you get and the staff really works hard to satisfy the custumers! If something didn't work, they made sure to make it work for you and this is much more than what you get in 5 star chain hotels.

First of all, we were not happy with the sounds of all the air-cons in our room and we got a quite room. One night several people were partying in their room and I was really impressed that the hotel staff went up and knocked on their door and told them to turn down the music!

The breakfast is fantastic and you get a menu with different options and it's not one the hotels with buffets where everything is finished by 10.30 so this was great!

The location is also excellent right on the ocean drive and close to shops etc.

You also get free Wifi. For a three star hotel I think it offers really excellent value and truely great customer service! You also get beach towels and chairs to use on the beach and can print boarding cards for free! It really has got all you need and that comes with a smile from the staff! Thank you Beacon! :)
