We have stayed at this property The Hotel Z many times with great success, mostly through normal hotel booking and then through Flip Key this March, 2016. The stay in March through Flip key was flawless. It is if we were staying at the hotel as a normal guest. We booked the same room numbered 305 for a November 2016 stay and this time it was a completely different experience. By experience I mean a horror story. First off the description of the room and amenities were the same as when we booked in March but this was more of a bait and switch approach. When we landed in Miami we were told to call the concierge who would meet us with the room key and an additional key to use the elevator. We called this gentleman and were given another number for another person to call. This led to us renting beach chairs for $45 from the beach club as we apparently no longer had access as before to the beach club and the chairs and umbrella we were to use were in the room that was promised to be available by 11am. We were let in at 2pm after the maid service tended to the room, which was understandable. What I don’t understand as how there were two linen bags filled with dirty wet towels left behind in the closet. They were retrieved the next day by the maids but it was disgusting that they were left there in the first place. Other inconveniences and embarrassments were having to carry bulky beach chairs and an umbrella through the hotel lobby. You feel like a second class citizen if you did not book through the hotel and there is a big sign near the elevator that reminds you that your privileges as a guest are far less than those who checked in at the lobby. When all of this was brought up to the owner of the unit, he took a day to e-mail a response and as compensation for our trouble he offered an extra night if we could amend our travel plans. This was only because the room had not been booked and we found it very insulting. Don’t stay at room 305 at the De Soleil.
