Stayed at hotel for business. Had to change room due to an ant problem in first room. Second room had air conditioner, toilet, and IT connection problems which took a few tries to resolve. Hotel under rennovation - that's clear. Got the message. Gym was spacious and well equipped but difficult to get access as it too is under renovation. Buffet at breakfast was average. Restaurant staff were friendly and very attentive. Shuttle bus driver extremely gracious and accommodating. Management acknowledged the issues and did their best to resolve them and make amends for which I was appreciative. Speaks volumes about their desire to be customer focused. I do a significant amount of business travel (26+ weeks/year) and my decision on where to stay is based on a few simple needs like a working room, accessible gym, good restaurant, IT/phone access. The time and energy it takes for me to address issues with basic needs during any stay is a true inconvenience and this was one of those stays. Management responded appropriately but I am on the fence about returning.

Norcaltransplant - Thank you for posting your review of Shula's Hotel. We do apologize for having to assign you to a smoking room and understand as a nonsmoker how this could be an undesirable situation. We have started our hotel renovations and part of the plan is to make Shula's a smoke free property by the end of Jan 2012. We understand your experience was short of your expectation but hope you give us another opportunity to turn this around.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I read reviews here before our stay, and was skeptical. Our room must have been in the part of the resort that has already undergone renovation. Because it had none of the issues described by several YELPERS.
The first room had a problem with the A/C. But, we were immediately offered to be relocated. The second room was great. Very clean, VERY comfortable beds!!! flat screen tv, mini fridge, nice soaps, WIFI, etc.....
The buffet breakfast was very nice, and again the staff couldn't have been better.

These are complaints:
The first is that it is kind of strange to find! Once there it is convenient to everything and you can walk to most anything that you want. But, even the GPS struggled to actually get us to the entrance.

The second is the tennis. We called the front desk to inquire about tennis and were told that there was plenty of availability and the we could just come by and they would arrange the court. Well we did as instructed, and went to the front desk at 5:30p, only to be told that they were closing the tennis courts at 6pm!!! ON SATURDAY!!! They have clay and hard courts with lights. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LIT TENNIS COURTS IF YOU CLOSE THEM AT 6PM!!!! Especially on Saturday night, at a sports resort????? I don't know if they were short staffed, or the person working the tennis courts had to leave early, but we were not impressed at all by them not being able to work it out for us to play. Put the lights on and leave a court unlocked, not that complicated to find a solution.

It would also be advisable to check the Dolphins schedule before booking! The hotel was full of the visiting team's fans (Philadelphia Eagles) for the game on Sunday. A lot of loud drunken guys. And unless your wife/girlfriend wants to be gawked at, the pool is basically unusable on home game weekends. There wasn't an empty seat around the pool. It was a fifty to one ratio of hungover guys to each woman.

The final issue has to do with soundproofing. Either they were shooting a porno in the room next to us, she was overcompensating with poor orgasm faking, or she was just an exuberant SCREAMER!!! Maybe it was just a rented movie and the volume was way up on the TV???? But, needless to say, their was no way to not hear what was coming from the room next door! (pun intended!)

But, all in all, we would definitely stay there again, just not on a football weekend! lol

Room Tip: Two things to make sure that your trip goes well- 1) make sure that you are in a renovated room 2) i...

Stayed here as part of a company sponsored event. As a regular business traveler, I'd categorize my hotel room as leaving much to be desired. First of all, I got stuck with a smoking room as there was nothing else available at check in. I wasn't even aware that smoking rooms sill exist.

The room smelled of smoke, had moldy patches on the popcorn ceiling and when someone next door or somewhere in the hall starts smoking the smoke funnels into the room--I had to sleep with a towel blocking the space between the entry door and the carpet.

Decor within rooms and throughout the facilitiy is mediocre and not very unified. Decent bed and shower.

Bottom line: if I had a choice to stay somewhere else next time, I would.

Room Tip: As for a non-smoking room.

Good business hotel if you are not going to spend allot of time in your room. Pool facilities are minimal. Gym is fantastic. Golf course needs some investment. Room prices are very reasonable.

Checked in and the internet was not working. Contacted the front desk and ended up with the IT department. Was told it should be fixed within the hour. Call back an hour later and connected with the IT department again. Made another case number. Was told at that time that they did not know when the internet would be back up. Internet was working in parts of the hotel. Called front desk again to switch to a room where the internet worked and was told they would check with the IT department and call back. Never received a call back. Called front desk back an hour later and was told that were no rooms available. The toilet in the room had to be flushed twice before items would leave the bowl area. In addition, woke up this morning with a burning odor in the room (2262). Turned off the A/C unit and burning odor left. Alarm clock could not be reset for proper operation. Left information with the front desk to give to the customer service manager and have not heard from the customer service manager. Checked out of the hotel and found another in the area. Scheduled to stay for three nights and only stayed for one.

Room Tip: The hotel asumes that they are twice as good as other hotels in the area. I was not impressed. Lousy...

Smokereader - Our sincere apology for the troubles you encountered during your stay. Our current room renovation project caused an issue with our internet service and we regret not being able to provide you with that amenity. We also regret not being able to communicate this to you prior to you checking out and hope the other property you moved to was able to accommodate your needs.

Just came back from this Hotel on November 14th. Spent 2 nights there and attended a Dolphins Football Game. The Hotel itself is a little run down, but you can see they are making improvements. We stayed on the third floor which has balconies and 2 double beds with a fridge. These are the suites and the nice thing about them are that you can only access this floor if you have a room key for that floor. When you get on the elevator you must insert your room key into the room grid and it will automatically take you to the 3rd floor. Pretty Nice.
The one thing that we found confusing was the directions to our room. We were told to go out the front door and follow the road around to the back and park there. We followed the road to the back and we ended up on the same street that we came in on. We tried again and we ended up in another condominium project. We got back to the hotel again and asked a security guard and he gave us the same directions?? We gave it one more try and ended up in a parking lot still confused until we saw a couple of guys and asked if they knew were to go and they said we are here.Ask the hotel clerk to actually show you as we wasted a half an hour trying to find the parking lot. There are lots of condo's around there and many of the lots inter mingle so be careful when looking for the back lot.
Tried the steak house but not the 48 oz. steak( that is right they have a 48 oz. steak if you want). The food was great and with the third floor suite a free breakfast is included for each day you stay there.
If you are looking for something to do there, there is nothing in the form of entertainment except the T.V. in the sports bar. We walked to the main street and found a nice sports bar to watch T.V. and mingle with the locals.

Overall it was a good experience, the room was nice, the food was good and the service personnel were pleasant. We were pleased with the experience. Only thing was that after Sunday the place was pretty quite as all the fans of both clubs had left.

Room Tip: Ask for the suites on the 3rd floor
