The Queens at Selborne

Happened on The Queens when looking for accommodation near Goodwood. What good fortune! So enjoyed our two days, starting with the wonderful welcoming smile of Erick on arrival. Customer care and friendliness start from the top ... and Erick sets the standard for his great staff to follow. Very nice boutique style bedroom and bathroom (immaculate), and attractive public areas with quirky French homely touches. Two great evening meals in the lovely diningroom, (soft lighting, comfortable chairs, white napery). Thankyou Chef Fred...for asparagus/hollandaise/egg starter, delicious game terrine, scallaponi of chicken with ratatouille, pasta with wild mushroom sauce etc.etc. Friday night was especially happy with a pianist playing throughout, every table taken, and a lovely, lively atmosphere.

Queens is smack in the middle of the very pretty village of Selbourne, with thatch cottages, a lovely church, a few quaint village shops, and surrounded by rolling fields. Well worth an evening stroll before dinner.

We'll be back!

We visited here for a meal as a family of 6 for a birthday treat and cannot fault it. The menu is limited and they do not have a children's menu but could not be more accommodating. We previously visited here in May and I had the fishcakes which were not on the menu today. When I mentioned this they asked the chef and still managed to serve it. They do smaller portions for children and mine ate every bit of the roast dinner. Fabulous service, food and atmosphere.

This was a last minute booking - and what a find!
Stayed for one night in a larger double room. Entire place beautifully decorated and well appointed. Couple of minor gripes - more space for putting out one's own 'stuff' in the bathroom would have been useful - it was huge so no lack of space to put in another shelf...and the use of slightly intrusive music in the bar.
We had dinner there, It was excellent. Could not fault it. Lovely. Would travel to eat there.
In comparison with the Langrish House Hotel where we stayed recently this was a vastly superior eating experience.
Overall the stay was enjoyable and we would (and probably will) go there again.

Stayed here after reading a few reviews so our expectations were quite high, but we only had an average stay.
The location is great, quiet, nice little village in the middle of the countryside (recommend doing the hanger walk). The bedrooms were clean and comfortable, we stayed in the larger rooms, so plenty of space. So why average, well for the price I have stayed in better places, just the small things were missing, we were short on towels (no bath matt), tea/coffee selection was poor (no biscuits too) and also our room wasn't made up on our second day (they were advertising for a housekeeper, but still).
We did have sunday lunch here, it was very nice, breakfast is continental on Mondays, i then had a cooked breakfast the following day, nice except for some paper on my bacon. Pub garden and bar is pleasant too. Would I stay here again, Id probably try out some other places first.

We visited this establishment for lunch on a Thursday in July. As the weather was good we were able to use the rather pleasant garden. We both had the club sandwich which came with a salad and coleslaw garnish and a portion of chips. The sandwiches were perfectly fine, although a bit pricey, but were badly let down by the chips, which had been cooked in stale oil. The lingering impression was the taste of the oil rather than the potatoes. Totally unnecessary, so please change the oil a bit more frequently!

We have been visiting regularly the Queens at Selborne since we first had our anniversary at the hotel. What a jewel to be found in the heart of Hampshire and the village that was the home of Gilbert White the naturalist.
Nothing is too much for the owner and staff who go out of their way to ensure that whether you are enjoying a superb meal or just a drink in the comfortable bar, the experience is warm and welcoming. The food is varied and delicious and I am hooked on their salmon fishcakes.
For those who have never been to the Queens, I believe it is a treat worth the effort to visit.

Room Tip: All the rooms are named with a "Queen" theme e.g. African Queen, Queen of Hearts etc. and...

This superb hotel is fantastic. The quality of service is superb. Everyone treats you with a relaxed and friendly way. The food is the best I have had and so many tastes come through fabulous food.
the Garden has plenty of places to sit in and out of the sun. We have such a great time. If you can visit this haven.
