“good portions and tasty food”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

Booked table for 6 people who were all family members, pleasant staff to greet us on arrival, and shown to lounge area for drinks before the meal . The meal was very tasty fresh and hot, and the service was very ,very good. The dining room is laid out very well and has a great atmosphere. The only downside is the parking problem, as there is only room for approx. 5 cars, however parking can be had at the railway station a stone's throw away.
We will certainly visit this restaurant again as the food is reasonably priced, and has a good atmosphere.

“Off hand service and poor food”
Reviewed 29 April 2014 via mobile

Visited recently and had to wait 20 minutes for a table when promised it would be 5 minutes. When the table was eventually ready, we waited an inordinate amount of time for the waiter who eventually served stale poppadoms. The service was poor and off hand service and the food luke warm, salty and otherwise tasteless. I mentioned this it to the manager during the meal, but he was not terribly concerned. I may have experienced this restaurant on a bad night, but this is the worst curry i have ever tasted at a restaurant. Never again will i visit this restaurant.
It is a great shame as we had been looking forward to visiting this restaurant as it is local and from the outside it looks very appealing
but unfortunately it flatters to deceive.
I really dont have anything further to say about this restaurant but it is necessary to write a review that comprises one hundred characters.

“Don't be put off by the exterior!”
Reviewed 13 April 2014 via mobile

I've driven past the Royal India a number of times but was never enticed to visit due to the exterior appearance. A friend had heard good reviews about the food so a party of 10 of us visited on a Saturday night. After slight difficulty parking - limited spaces and a squeeze at the front of the restaurant - we stepped inside and couldn't believe the difference compared to the outside - clean, modern and spacious decor. We were seated in the bar area - by a log burner - while we ordered some drinks before being taken to our table in the restaurant area. We appreciated having a round table - much more social and conducive for conversations than a long table. Our order was taken quickly and efficiently. The pile of poppodoms and chutneys arrived in minutes - we had four or five "sets" of big portions of the chutneys which was much welcomed - there was no need to scrabble over the tray being passed around and measly portions as is often the case at some indian restaurants. The majority of us chose the mixed starter of onion bhajee, samosa and tandoori chicken - served on a long plate with a salad garnish. We weren't expecting such generous portions for the starter but was too nice to leave so we managed to polish them off! A couple of people opted for the prawn cocktail - again a very generous portion there was a few grumbles about the lack of salad as it was just lettuce leaves. Our mains arrived within minutes of our starter plates being cleared. The chicken bhuna, chicken curry and vegetarian thali was all very tasty - as was the king prawn khorai even if it wasn't what we expected. We all ordered rice to accompany our meals which were huge portions - it would have been helpful and appreciated had the waiter told us that one portion was enough for two if not three people. That was our only complaint about the whole evening. To sum up - generous portions and very reasonably priced. On my way out I picked up a takeaway menu which has to be the cheapest I've seen - can't wait to order takeaway or return to the restaurant. Don't be put off by the exterior!

“Lovely Indian meal!”
Reviewed 6 March 2014

Visited The Royal India whilst staying with my boyfriend in Dinas, lovely little restaurant! Had been to collect takeaways before, but this was our first time dining in. Went on a Sunday evening and although the restaurant was fairly empty, the service was great and you felt welcome. We ordered poppadoms to share as a starter, which came with pickles, mango chutney and raita.

For mains, we both decided to order the non-vegetarian Thali platter (includes seekh kebab, lamb and chicken tikka, lamb and prawn curry, chicken tikka masala, mint sauce, naan, basmati rice - see photo). At £12.80, we weren't sure it would be worth the price but it definitely was. It was great fun trying all the different dishes and the lamb curry was to die for!

As a major curry fiend, I can safely say that this was a lovely meal and I know that I will be back again!
