Owner description: Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

Tired of strip malls and two for one Floridian specials? Escape it all at this amazing place. A must see for avid birders and naturalists.

Very cool wildlife and natural area. 2.5 mile hike that tired my son out and he had a great time doing it.

Very well organised walk along the boardwalk through the local outback. It was probably a bit hot and wet when we visited so we didn't see much wildlife but we had fun trying to find it. We spent about three hours. We did see deer, eagles, butterflies, loads of turtles and the very rare ghost orchid (which was the easiest of the lot to spot). No alligators but no doubt they were there looking at us!

No problem recommending others to make the short trip off I75 for a visit to the sanctuary.

It's a little bit of a drive (maybe 30-45 minutes) from Naples proper but well worth it. It's one of my favorite things to do in Naples. Sometimes you don't see a ton of birds but the walk around the sanctuary is reason alone to go.

We go every year in January or February. Always variety of birds and several alligators. There during hawk mating season and woodstork births. Naturalists there to point out activity you may miss. beautiful environment. Go early before potential noisy visitors take away from the experience.
