Owner description: Long hidden on the fringe of Florida's Gulf coast and overlooked by developers until well into the 1880s, Naples' catalyst for settlement finally arrived forty years later when two rival railroads rolled into town within ten days of each other. Set in Naples' restored Seaboard Air Line Railway passenger station, the Naples Depot Museum welcomes visitors back to the railroading boom days of the Roaring Twenties and explains how generations of Southwest Floridians used technology and transportation to conquer a vast and seemingly impenetrable frontier.Seminole dugout canoes, a mule wagon, antique swamp buggy, restored rail cars and exciting interactive exhibits tell the story of how trade and travel transformed Naples from a napping village of 300 souls into today's glittering Gulf coast resort. The Naples Depot Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is conveniently located in downtown Naples.

Very informative, lots of history and very clean. I recommend to go on the weekend so you can ride their small train.

“Amazing place to visit.”
Reviewed 24 May 2014 via mobile

If you want to see one of the jewels of Naples, this is the place to go. We live in Naples and enjoy visiting the museum with the history of the depot and the railroad. Being able to see a real dining car was exciting.

“Interesting Stop”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

This very interesting little stop provides a wealth of information about Naples, past and present. History enthusiasts will appreciate all the artifacts and stories the provide, and children may enjoy exploring the cars/trains that are on display. It's a very small museum that doesn't take much time to go through, but is a nice way to pass time on a rainy afternoon or when the sun is too hot to be outside.

“A nice stop for first time visitors”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

This is a county museum and is free but check the hours before you go. There was a nice assortment of historic items that showed the historic progression of Naples with an emphasis on the change brought by the railroad. There is a dining car and a caboose that are open to walk through. We enjoyed it.

“Good historical introduction to Naples”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

Housed in an historic station, this museum not only covers rail history in this area, but also general history of Naples. Parking and entry are free and easy. Though the information is great, it does have a lot of reading. Displays are well presented. Took us a little over an hour, but we read everything. On weekends there is a small train that circles the building which children love to go on. Definitely worth a visit, particularly on a rainy or cold day.
