“Disappointed this time”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

My second visit, I bragged about it so much to my friends, brought them there for lunch after a visit to the Botanical Gardens. We sat outside which was nice. The staff was friendly and we had good service. I was disappointed in the lunch menu. Had had dinner once before and it was wonderful, not wanting that much for lunch (and to be honest it is a little pricey, even for lunch) there really wasn't much to choose from and nothing was included with the burgers, which my friends say were very good -should be for $11. Fries were extra. My fried fish, which came with fries was bland and the fries were obviously pre-frozen package fries. I would give it another try, but would really like to see them expand the lunch menu. One friend needs gluten free and there was nothing offered on the menu.

“Just ok”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

Restaurant has fine dining and there is a bar.We saw menu for fine dining but decided we wanted a lighter menu.I had a average size house salad with a very small portion of goat cheese maybe about tablespoon size.I asked for extra cheese and waitress said it would cost extra. After she checked with cook it was decided there wouldn't be a charge. My husband and son had Kobe hamburgs which they said were very good.I don't think we would go back as just ok place and too many other restaurants to experience.

“Crisp Caribbean”
Reviewed 19 March 2014

It looks like a shack from the outside, do not let that put you off, appearances here are deceptive.
The bar and outdoor entertainment area is a cross between a speakeasy and a Caribbean laid back joint.
The restaurant crisp tablecloths and multiple mirrors to create an illusion of space. Classy in a way that the approach does not indicate. So the classy interior is disguised by the exterior. I love this huge high back wickerwork chairs at certain tables than give the occupant a passing imitation of a James Bond villain.

The food is good, but I think they do the Caribbean food the best. The service is good too. You could use this for a romantic evening or a convivial outing with friends.

The hostess gets around to greet you, she is an amazing lady who seemed to learn her apprenticeship in Ronnie Scotts in London where she did indeed spend time way back in those flower power days. She exudes personality and is interesting to chat to.

Sometimes they bring the MaCaw around to the tables to show you, being a bird of that kind they can be bossy, not to everyone's taste but they will quickly take it away if you don't like it.

Sometimes they have really good Caribbean entertainment just outside the restaurant in the space leading to the bar, that can be a nice way to end an evening after dinner.

We have been coming here for 15 years. It is unique in Naples. Someone said quirky, it is true, but with class too.

What a combination of attractions then!

“Good food; quirky atmosphere; fun environment”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

Ignore the less-than-tidy approaches to the Real Macaw on Bayshore Blvd in Naples, and go on in. We stopped for a mid-afternoon lunch to find a few others relaxing & enjoying their meals, as well. Two Red Stripes followed by a shared cup of black bean soup, the patron-recommended chicken rotis (jerked chicken, mashed potatoes [!], & a pungent sauce in a tortilla), followed by a surprisingly good key lime pie and an almost-decadent bread pudding with mango sauce & vanilla ice cream for desert. The food was hot, tasty, presented well, served promptly and worth the slightly higher than expected prices. Our only comment was that the black bean soup could have been more "soup" and fewer "whole beans", but that's a personal preference & the way I make mine. Others might like a bowl of black beans; I'd pass on it in the future.

The "ambiance" of the Real Macaw is strictly island-based. It's shady outdoors with lots of palms (& a canvas carport-tent) overhead, the architecture is a tad shabby but in a nice way, and the staff is friendly, welcoming and eager to provide a good experience. FWIW, it might be worth spending a few bucks in the near future to upgrade some of the worn-out chairs and stabilize the railings before the FL environment wins the day!

Worth a return trip for dinner - but to eat inside with linen tablecloths & napkins or stay outdoors & savor the slightly too-loud blues from the bar area? That's the question...
