Reviewed 12 January 2014

We had 2 rooms in the Beach House overlooking the sands; one of the nicest views we've ever had. The rooms were OK, but quite small, as were the bathrooms, and we didn't think they justified the price.
We ate twice at the Baleen restaurant, once for Christmas day lunch, and both times were excellent. The food was great and the staff were second to none. Both pool and beach areas were pleasant, with plenty of room.
Overall a very pleasant stay, but a bit on the pricey side.

Thank you for choosing LaPlaya for your recent visit to Naples! The end of December is a great time to visit LaPlaya and Vanderbilt Beach, and we’re glad that our location and service helped set the stage for an enjoyable visit. I’ll be sure to also pass along your compliments to our Baleen team regarding the high quality food and attentive staff – they will truly appreciate it!

I am sorry for any disappointment in the spacing and size of your guestroom, as I know it goes hand in hand with the perceived value for price paid for your visit. We have several different room types with a variety of layouts and configurations, and I’d be happy to help find the best fit for your next visit. Feel free to reach out to me directly, as we do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.

Beautiful boutique style hotel set on an incredible beach. Our room in the tower was very spacious, beautifully decorated, clean with an amazing view of the beach and sea. We also had our 8 month old baby with us, a travel cot was waiting for us on arrival and due to the very large room it was perfect for the three of us. Restaurant was good all staff very friendly and we'll definitely be back and would recommend the hotel.
There are lots of pools or relax on the beach with plenty of sun beds that the guys on the beach will set up for you.
There s a fire pit on the beach where you can enjoy pre dinner drinks
Hotel had a lovely feel to it not a big corporate set up felt cool and boutiquey
Naples itself is lovely with great restaurants and shops

Room Tip: I think all rooms in the tower are the same size but they're great if you have a little one as t...

This is our second time to LaPlaya and we intend to come back next year. The location is excellent - our room in the tower looked out directly over the beach and sea. I don't agree with the comments suggesting that the hotel needed renovation. The rooms in the tower are slightly odd - in that the corridors are open to the elements. Our first day was very windy - including the corridor outside our room. This type of weather is infrequent in Florida. Overall we were happy with our room - although I did think our mattress had lost some of its support.

We found the staff at the hotel extremely helpful - the beach attendants, concierge and staff in the restaurant. The menu in the restaurant was disappointing. We stayed at LaPlaya at the end of our holiday, and decided to spend our time lazing around the beach and pool before flying back to London. LaPlaya is not in walking distance of restaurants - so we ate in the restaurant frequently. The menu in the restaurant is the same for lunch and dinner - it quickly becomes limited. I would recommend that hotel introduce more daily specials.

Thank you for once again choosing LaPlaya as part of your Florida holiday! It was our pleasure welcoming you back to Naples, and it’s great to read that you once again enjoyed your guestroom experience – including those amazing views. I’ll just have to see if I can track down your reservation so that we can check out the mattress.

Relaxing by the pool and beach is a common theme for many guests, particularly those who choose our resort as a final destination in their travels. It’s wonderful to see that you enjoyed Baleen for most of your meals, and we appreciate your suggestion of daily specials to increase the variety of options. We’re happy to announce that the acclaimed Executive Chef Carlos Torres has joined our Baleen culinary team, and he is actually releasing new menu items this week. We are always looking to expand upon the variety and creativity of our food and beverage offerings, and we look forward to your feedback on your next visit.

Thank you again for your review and continued support. We look forward to welcoming you back for your third visit next year!

Kind Regards,

My husband and I had our wedding at LaPlaya in November 2010 -- and cannot rave enough about the hospitality, great rooms, beautiful grounds, delicious food, and, of course, the amazing beach. The LaPlaya staff helped make our wedding go off without a hitch and made our guests feel welcome. Friends and relatives still regularly comment on how much they enjoyed our wedding outside on LaPlaya's lawn...just steps from the beach. Also, our welcome party at LaPlaya's tiki bar the night before our wedding was a huge hit thanks in large part to the talented and friendly manager, Joanna. She went above and beyond to make sure all of our guests were happy, well-fed, and well-served. Joanna is outstanding and puts on a great party. My husband and I have been back to LaPlaya each year since 2010. We prefer to stay in the tower so we can enjoy the amazing view from our balcony. We've also dined several times at the wonderful restaurant, Baleen. LaPlaya is truly a beautiful resort with a staff that works hard to make sure every detail of your stay (and your wedding!) is perfect.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors in the tower have unbeatable views.

Thank you for providing such a glowing review of LaPlaya! Your choice to continue visiting LaPlaya is a testament to the team of hospitality professionals we have, and their dedication to consistency in all that they do. We continue to focus on the fundamentals of a clean facility and friendly staff, accompanied by wonderful food and beverage.

As you noted, our Gulf Lawn is a venue unlike any other for a wedding. The flower-lined, lush Bermuda grass nestled just next to the beach makes for a distinctive event that is sure to be remembered by all in attendance!

Additionally, thank you for taking a moment to recognize Joanna and the hospitality she brings to the Tiki Bar, as well as the "wonderful" and award-winning Baleen restarant. Surely your comments will be most appreciated by the teams in both areas!

We are so proud to have so many loyal guests who return year after year, we cannot thank you enough for continuing to choose LaPlaya as your resort of choice in Naples. Here's to many more years of fond memories!

Best regards,

Let me start by saying the resort is located right on the beach and the beach is beautiful, it's a Caribbean feel with white sand and blue waters of the gulf. The good ends there. The resort itself is not impressive it needs renovation and remodeling. While we splurged on an ocean facing suite - it was really not worth it. Putting a couch in the room doesn't make it a suite. The view is impeccable but the cost is exorbitant for everything from the restaurant to room service. The decor and the room layout is outdated, the bathroom had such low ceilings my husband felt claustrophobic in the shower and the door handle was rusting. The pools are nice but again for the price I wasn't impressed. I've seen better accommodations at the marriot. The New Year's Eve celebration was beautiful and it's very memorable to ring in the new year on a beach but the whole thing cost us $800 for 2 and the menu while sounding impressive wasn't that great. The lobster tails were very dry, the rest of the dishes quite generic and really not worth the price. If you ve had real truffle ravioli or lobster risotto, you would know what they served was subpar to be kind, it was mushy, greasy and not too pleasing on the pallet. The music - well no one under 70 liked it. In any case I believe this place is perfect for extremely wealthy over the retirement age. Otherwise, don't waste your time and money!!!

Thank you for your recent visit to our boutique resort, and for taking a moment to share your experience. We certainly wish we would have performed better with some portions of your visit, as we understand that value is an important aspect of any stay. Having one of the best locations possible, we take our responsibility in this respect very seriously, as want your entire visit to be just as enjoyable as those incredible views.

To begin, please accept my apologies for the disappointment you experienced with the layout and décor of your guestroom. This past year saw many changes to our guestrooms in terms of furnishings, artwork, carpet, and lighting – most which have yielded positive feedback so far. We have a few other items that we are currently in the process of changing, which will continue to progress our room product. Understandably layout and design can be subject to many different tastes and preferences, yet we do aim to make choices that appeal to a wide variety of guests. That being said, an item such as rust on a door handle is an item that we should do a better job addressing, and is an area that we will review with our preventative maintenance team.

It’s great to read about your enjoyment of the NYE event, yet we are also disappointed that you had concerns with the quality of some of the menu items. Our culinary team really strives to put forth a phenomenal food & beverage experience, and we know that this goes hand in hand with the value of the event. I have shared your comments with the team regarding those items, as well as the chosen entertainment. We aim to select performers with a wide appeal, and I am sorry that our selection took away from your overall experience.

While negative reviews are disappointing to our team, we do appreciate you taking a moment to share your comments. Everything we do is based on our guest feedback, and we see constructive comments as an opportunity to continue to adapt and improve our offerings here at LaPlaya.

Thank you again for your visit. If I may be of any assistance now, or in the future, please feel free to contact me directly.

Kind Regards,

Chris Grossman

We stayed here for two nights in November. Upon arrival we were told we had been upgraded. Having seen this so many times on trip advisor; I eagerly awaited to see what our room was like.
I am afraid I cannot agree with some reviews eulogising this hotel.
I was rather shocked coming from the elevator to the 14th floor. The corridors were dirty and looked as though they needed a make over.
The room itself was clean and the bed comfortable although the linen looked very tired.
However, the furniture on the balcony was dirty and torn. The jacuzzi bath had cheap and tacky fittings and we were frightened to use it for fear it would break.
We booked this hotel and paid for it as part of a long trip so had no idea of the cost per night until we checked out. When my husband asked the cost of the room, staff were very evasive and said to go the website. We found some of the staff here to be very pretentious and rather disdainful when they knew you were only staying a short time. For what we got- the cost was extortionate and we stayed in better hotels during our trip that were cheaper but knew the meaning of excellent customer service and cleanliness

Thank you for sharing your experience regarding your visit this past November. Unfortunately, we’re sorry to read that your stay at LaPlaya did not live up to the expectations you had prior to your visit. A positive guest experience is our number one goal, so it’s disheartening to us that we did not provide for a better holiday. Please accept our apologies on behalf of our entire team here at LaPlaya, as we know you deserve a comfortable, enjoyable experience -- something that we do strive to provide daily.

At LaPlaya, we understand that your visit is comprised of many different experiences, both with our property and with our service. It’s apparent from your comments that the open air corridor that led to your guestroom could have used some attention during your visit, as well as the cushions on your balcony. We have made many recent additions to our guestrooms in the past year, and currently are in the process of making further upgrades to finalize our room product – including newly designed cushions for our Gulf Tower balcony furniture. Additionally, it’s disappointing that you encountered few staff members that did not show you the friendly, attentive service that is normally second nature to our associates. We take great pride in our service culture here at LaPlaya, and want to make sure we are putting our best foot forward each and every time. I will be sure to share your review with our team, as it will certainly serve as a positive training tool moving forward.

If you have any other comments to share regarding your visit, please feel free to contact me directly. We can and should do better – and we hope to have the opportunity to show you on a future visit to Naples.

We've been to LaPlaya two years in a row for the holidays and have found it to be quite pleasant. We were in the ocean front tower on the 15th and 13th floors. There rare 6 rooms per floor so very little activity per floor, which is nice.

There are also 4 floor buildings on the beach itself. We opted for the tower as it is newer construction and the view from the top floors is panoramic and stunning… like a dream. I was concerned about noise between floors and could hear a little faint footsteps above, but it wasn't bad. I was, however, told that the beachfront buildings are noisier and the ceilings are lower (the rooms are a bit larger though with smaller bathrooms). If you go for those ocean front rooms, ask for either the ground floor (you can walk straight out to the beach) or the top floor for better views/quiet.

The beds are comfortable, BUT I found the bottom sheets to be scratchy, which for a $500+ night fee was unacceptable to me. I asked for a soft sheet they use to cover the down quilt to be put on as the bottom sheet. It was much more silky. We also asked for a newspaper and it was placed on the door amy and blew away. Things like this mark an excellent hotel from an ok one. In my opinion they need to concentrate on some of these finer details a bit more.

The service otherwise is very pleasant with friendly maids, waitstaff and front desk. The food was quite good and one can eat outside or in. There is a casual poolside eating area which has a good menu. After being at a very expensive hotel in St. John for the holidays where the staff barely speak to you, this was enjoyable.

The beach is wide with white sand and nice lounges and umbrellas. They also will feed you beachside, which is nice.

It's helpful to have a car, since LaPlaya is away from town. If you rent one, it will set you back $25/night to park. I also think the massages offered were too pricey.

All in all LaPlaya is a well-run, relaxing place to recharge your batteries.

Room Tip: Top floor in tower; if not necessary, ask for a room with NO adjoining door. First or top floor in...

The title of your review says it all! Laid back, relaxing, exactly how we want our guests to feel at LaPlaya. On behalf of our entire team, thank you for your continued patronage! The panoramic views from our Gulf Tower rooms are as you describe them, "like a dream". And, for those who prefer to be as close to the beach as possible, the beachfront lanai rooms you mention in our Beach House building are literally just steps from the pristine white sand!

It is through honest feedback from guests like yourself that we are able to continually be introspective about the products and services we provide in an effort to make sure that we not only meet, but exceed your expectations on each and every visit. There are always details we can improve upon, and rest assured we most certainly will be focused on the items you mentioned.

Again, thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and for again choosing LaPlaya as your resort of choice in Naples! We couldn't be happier to see that your batteries were recharged, and we look forward to seeing you again in the near future.
