Hampton Inn Naples I-75

Reviewed 12 June 2010

A fine, standard Hampton Inn tucked hard aside I-75 on the north side of Naples. Our room was on the interstate side but far enough from the highway that noise wasn't a problem, but perhaps that also was because of the loud, barely adequate wall/under window air conditioner. The controls had been covered for the unit and assigned to a wall mounted thermostat, which was either on or off and offered a digital number. If you wanted to raise the room temperature the heat came on, not less cycling of the unit. And to cool the room on this hot June night it had to be set on 65. This made for a loud, constantly running unit.
Otherwise a fine, clean, place, with a nice pool area and a good breakfast that came with the room rate. And our rate, having paid up front a few weeks ahead, was very good.
The bathroom was clean and the bed was comfortable. Making several trips a year to Naples I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, but probably only between October and April...avoiding the hot summer months.
And, free high speed wired internet service in room, and wi-fi and a computer available in the lobby.

Stayed for 3 nights. The hotel is about 4 miles outside Naples, so a car is a must if you want to visit the city or go to the beaches nearby. Being near the I-75, it was easy to get about to shopping malls, Fort Myers and Sanibel Island. The bed was really comfortable and everything was spotlessly maintained. A hot breakfast buffet is provided and coffee is available in the lobby 24 hrs, although each room has a coffee maker too. There is a nice leisure pool and ample free parking. The hotel was good value for money with friendly attentive staff and we wouldn`t hesitate to go back.

Good location, amazing service. They have everything you could need in a hotel, especially when you're not in a tourist spot, like Naples, and you stay in practically all day.

We were there with 38 members of our children's traveling violin group from Illinois. We stayed at total of 5 nights and it was a great time! The staff was welcoming and nice to even our youngest children. The rooms were quiet, clean, roomy, and well maintained. We had the pool basically to ourselves which was nice with 19 children from 4 to 15! My daughter turned 5 during the trip and we were able to use the breakfast area to host a birthday party for her. The complimentary breakfast was tasty and a perfect start to the day. Excellent hotel and a great value!

Great value for the price - looked brand new, wonderful staff, and really good complimentary hot breakfast buffet, free newspaper. Easy location close to everything, we could have stayed all week. Beautiful beaches in Naples.

Internet wireless: Cable, wifi and desktop available in loby, system was down at times
Room: Clean and good quality furniture and accessories but lacking one or two tables
Bathroom: clean, equipped for disabled
Breakfast: Excellent
Surroundings: Less than 10 minutes from the beach, restaurants at a walking distance All kinds of Super Centers within 2 minutes. Very well located, but not downtown
Overall feelings: Very pleasant and comfortable stay. On the picky side, the chair at the desk is way too low for writing or typing. The access code to connect to internet changes without notification, need to go back to the desk to get a new code.

When staying in a hotel, I look for three simple things: a clean room, a secure property, and a comfortable night’s sleep. In the past, we have made it a point to stay at Hampton Inns. These properties are often a bit more expensive, but have always provided an excellent experience. Unfortunately, the past two times that I have stayed at a Hilton property, I have “encountered” a new thermostat technology that is installed in new or renovated properties. I believe that the control system is based on motion within the room in order maintain the temperature set on the thermostat display. As long as the room lights are on and there is movement in the room, it appeared that the air conditioning unit maintained the setting temperature. However, at night, the unit would no longer maintain this temperature, and seemed to go to some preset default mode where the target temperature was higher. The target temperature on the display does not change. However, the unit no longer maintains this temperature. I asked the folks at the front desk about the problem. They indicated that it was an inherent characteristic of the new control system that had been installed in a recent renovation and that others had also complained. I ran into the same problem this past summer at another hotel with the same thermostat technology (I recognized the keypad and motion detector).

I am an engineer by profession. I do not know what cost-saving calculation convinced someone at Hilton that this was a good idea for customer relations. A thermostat in a room that does not allow the occupant to set the room temperature to his or her liking, regardless of whether they are awake or asleep, is moronic. I do expect to be able to set the room temperature to a level that is comfortable for me to sleep. In the future, I will be seeking alternatives to Hilton properties simply to avoid this technology.

FYI: The staff at the Hampton Inn in Naples were excellent, professional, and remarkably courteous.
