“Family Vacation”
Reviewed 14 June 2017 for a stay in June 2017

Although during our trip to Captiva and Bali Hi we encountered rain nearly every day the resort/home itself was wonderful and provided everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The house has a warm and homey feel and our family really enjoyed our time there. The kitchen is very nice and we cooked everyday during our stay. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking utensils, dishes and just about any and everything you would need to prepare and serve your meals. I used the outdoor grill nearly every day and though was a little difficult to get started I contacted Joe and he planned to have it looked at. We were able to get "some" beach and pool time and our grandchildren had a blast doing both. Because of the rain we were not able to take advantage of the outdoor amenities like we had hoped for but could clearly recognize how wonderful it would be to enjoy the fire pit, playground and general seating areas. If we are able to return one day we will try to bring a larger group as Bali Hi is the perfect place for families and friends who want to enjoy a resort type setting without the general crowds you would encounter at a public resort. One particular thing that caught our attention was though Bali Hi is not a new facility (I would guess built in the 80's) the structures were built with quality and are extremely well maintained. The amount of wood on the interior was a wonderful touch that makes the place so warm and inviting. The furnishings (other than the TV's) are not brand new either but are all high quality from the couches to the bedroom furniture which fell right in line with our taste. After our arrival on 6/4 and brief tour of the property our 4 year old granddaughter said "this feels like home". That pretty much summed it up for all of us.

“Fantastic property for a wedding!”
Reviewed 7 June 2017 for a stay in May 2017

House was perfect setting for our daughters Memorial weekend wedding. The walkway from the house to the beach was the perfect path to the ceremony site on the beach. Wedding dinner was hosted under a tent in the Bali Hi backyard.
The entire wedding party and their significant others stayed on the property and guest house. Nacho the property manager really helped make it special and aided in anything we needed.

Thank You Melinda for the wonderful review. We were thrilled to host you and your daughters wedding at Bali Hi Estate. It is a special place to host a gorgeous beach wedding. Your input helped us improve. The addition of ramp from the back deck to beach garden area has been positively noted by guests since your stay. We hope you will return for a future stay perhaps for a memorable anniversary. Please contact us any time as we would love to have you back. ~ Kindest Regards, Randy

“Amazing... A Resort Unto Itself!”
Reviewed 19 February 2017 for a stay in December 2016

An awesome experience for our family during Christmas/New Year week! The gulf sunset beach just steps away via private path... fantastic pool/hot tub the kids simply would not leave... the sand play area for the toddlers... spacious outdoor seating... water toys for all ages... that's just the exterior highlights. Inside you are treated to spacious and comfortable surroundings... wonderful kitchen, dining, lounging, reading, gathering, sleeping, bathing... whatever you like. This fantastic location was even further enhanced by the deliciousness provided by Chef Leslie Adams.

“A Magical Paradise Found”
Reviewed 24 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Every year our widely dispersed and politically divergent family of 20 reunites to renew ties and to recharge batteries. No other place we've visited over the years facilitated these goals as well as Bali Hi. It's a tropical paradise complete with Coconut Palms with lots of coconuts, Banana Trees heavy with fruit, exotic flowers and other plants over 3 beautifully maintained acres that front the Gulf. It gave us privacy that is very rare these days. The kitchen is large and well equipped, there are large dining areas both inside and outside where we gathered each night for a home-cooked feast prepared by a different segment of our family. Though the beach is legally public, we really had it all to ourselves,
The first night, a large bird flew into a local power line, which cut off our electricity. The management team was right on it; they brought a large ice chest filled with ice for our perishables; lanterns and flashlights so that we could have our family meal and their action changed a potential catastrophe into an exciting and romantic adventure. The electricity was fixed within a couple of hours and there were no other issues the rest of the week.
After our time at Bali Hi, we knew that we had stumbled into a paradise. It was that good. By the end of the week, all of the petty differences that sometimes separate families had melted away into the past and we left renewed and reunited.

Bali Hi was perfect for our getaway. The house and property had everything we needed. The kitchen was completely stocked with utensils, appliances, etc. The pool area had all the toys and flotation devices needed and the beach had plenty of chairs, umbrellas and kayaks for all to enjoy. I highly recommend this vacation rental to several families that want to vacation together. There are plenty of rooms, beds and space for everyone to be together or get away for some quiet time.

“Unforgettable Wedding Venue”
Reviewed 7 February 2016 for a stay in November 2015

We rented Bali Hi for our 11/21 wedding. Coming from Germany & Minnesota, we wanted an escape for our families to come together and really get to know each other in intimate, peaceful surroundings. I had grown up going to Sanibel/Captiva throughout my childhood, so the island had personal meaning for our families. Bali Hi was the perfect choice.

Hearing the wind blow through the trees...seeing the beautiful flowers that can't be found anywhere else on the island...watching dolphins play from your stretch of beach...

Rental property
Bali Hi is paradise. Everything about it is heaven on earth. Watching the view of the ocean from the master suite patio is something we will never forget. When your hardest decision is between playing in the pool (one of the largest for private homes on Captiva) or walking the 1-minute path to the nearly-private beach (complete w/tropical flora lining the way), you know you're in the right place. We had about 17 guests stay for 5 nights; the property was the perfect size. Most couples had their own rooms. Bali Hi really had everything we needed. We had very minor struggles w/slow wifi and frustration about how to hook up the sound system, but we knew Our Captiva was there to help if needed. They were available at ALL times throughout our stay. We can't wait to come back.
It is resort-like but comes with freedom/privacy a resort simply can't offer.

Wedding venue
Bali Hi was a great venue for our reception with 88 guests. Due to a downpour, we had to set up a tent from our rentals vendor (Caloosa Rentals), and the Our Captiva came to help provide input on the exact position. Our Captiva also helped us coordinate the outdoor toilet rental and determine trolley details. Their groundskeeper is awesome. The key benefits as a wedding venue:
- Breathtaking grounds. Guests will NEVER forget your wedding.
- Ability to send packages to Our Captiva prior to the wedding (decor, etc.). They accepted packages for us without a hesitation or complaint. This sounds like a minor detail, but if it didn't happen, the wedding would not have been possible.
- Only private home on Captiva w/a full parking lot
- Create your own event - as casual/fancy as you want. It is impossible to have a sterile/boring wedding at this venue. Your wedding will be personal and will stand out to your guests.
- Guests could walk to Tween Waters following the party on the beach (no need to coordinate taxis on a small island at night)
- Party could last all night (assuming neighbors don't mind and you're respectful with noise) instead of ending strictly at midnight
- Guests could come to Florida for a much lower cost than an all inclusive package on another island/beach destination (and alternatively, make it as luxe as they wanted, too)
- If you want to get married on the beach, Nacho will create a wedding arch for you. It's a beautiful stretch of beach - it is not private, but you won't risk the same types of crowds as you would at an all inclusive resort. I've been a bridesmaid at that type of event - it can feel awkward having complete strangers in interesting clothing choices take photos of you exchanging vows ;)

Things to consider: coordination of a wedding at a private estate requires either a couple with extreme interest (&time) in planning all of the details, or a wedding planner (local). This is not a "destination wedding" package place (yet). We wouldn't have wanted that, anyway, but something to keep in mind. Also, although it's possible to create an event within most budgets (and for less than those $200+/pp costs at other island venues), costs of multiple vendors add up quickly, so make conscious decisions. Finally, it could rain. And despite Our Captiva spraying the property to prevent issues, the no-see-ums come out and can cause discomfort. It's a risk of having an outdoor venue and nothing that the estate can control better than they try already.

A quick shout out to our favorite vendors: DJ Gils Blake, Better Together Cinematography, Mick Schulte Photography, Baileys Grocery (cake), Adventures in Paradise (trolley). And Pastor George at the Chapel by the Sea is a lovely, thoughtful person.
