“Loved it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2012

The family and I just returned from South Seas. Even with Tropical Storm Debbie at the start of our vacation, we had a great time. The staff always kept us up to date and we never felt we were in danger. The resort has tons of options to partake in or just relax if you choose to. The beaches are covered with great shells to collect. The Bayside Villas was a great choice and we had a beautiful room. The pools and H2O water slides were amazing for the kids. Nothing bad can be said for our recent stay. If you have the chance to visit, do not hesitate you will love it also.

We arrived at South Seas just as Tropical Storm Debby hit Florida - and we still had an amazing vacation. I think that says a lot about the variety of things to do at the resort. This is a wonderful destination for families - we have two kids aged 8 and 6 - and it was perfect in every way. Would recommend the 2 bedroom beach villas. Also found the staff to be wonderful - so friendly and helpful! A delight all the way around!

Room Tip: we had a first floor 2 bedroom beach villa and found it perfect for our family - full kitchen, close...

We were here a decade ago, and the resort has expanded quite a bit. The natural beauty of the island is highlighted by the situation of the rooms. Our room faced east, so we could watch sunrise over the Gulf. In the evening, we walked on the beach and watched the sunset. A dolphin swam under our window in the early morning.
The resort also has hotel rooms on the marina. The availability of the Offshore Sailing School is a bonus, as this sailing school is great! This visiit has reinforced that Captiva rivals or surpasses any Caribbean locale.

We spent the weekend at this resort for a work-related trip and it rained the ENTIRE time! Unfortunately, we werent able to enjoy the pools or beach so I can't comment on either. We stayed in the Marina Villas in a one bedroom suite and requested to have one of the updated ones. I'm not really sure if thats what we got. Our view was very pretty and we enjoyed the screen patio which kept out the bugs. The kitchen was very nice and roomy. The bedroom was comfortable. The master bath shower had absolutely nowhere to place soap or shampoo bottles, except for the floor. We ended up using the second bathroom to bathe in. The resort is very large and to get from one end to the other is over 2 miles. Breakfast in the Harbour restaurant was good. Might return, not really sure.

Room Tip: if i were traveling with kids, would want to stay on the North side, closer to pool complex

We are a young couple, expecting our first baby early October and decided we would like to take one last vacation just the 2 of us before the baby arrives this Fall. Wanting to stay in the US just in case I should need healthcare, we decided on Captiva Island. It was an easy, direct flight from Charlotte to Ft. Myers and a quick drive to the island from RSW. South Seas seemed to be exactly what we were looking for, full condo, great beaches, activities close by. And it lived up to our expectations, if not exceeded them.

From an easy Check-in process, to moving our room for us when we discovered it had 2 double beds instead of a King, to bringing me extra pillows at 11:00 PM at night, this was truly a wonderful resort. And I didn't even mention the gorgeous beach!

We stayed in a Tennis Villa 1 bedroom, it was clean, newly decorated and the kitchen was fully stocked with anything you would need to cook. I did ask for a resort owned unit, not sure if that made a difference or not. My only complaint would be the paper thin walls. It felt like we were the only people there without kids, but with the thin walls, we were woken up by crying kids several mornings. I guess you could say it was just preparation for us for the Fall. The pros definitely outweighed the cons though.

We didn't eat at the resort as we had a rental car, went to Sweet Melissa's in Sanibel one night, fabulous dinner. Old Captiva House at Tween Waters was one of our favorite meals, the lobster ravioli was delicious! We ate at the Island Cow for breakfast and one night for dinner, it was a great meal for both. Ordered pizza from Captiva Pizza one night for take out and the white pizza was amazing! Keep in mind that most restaurants close at 9:00 so plan accordingly or you could miss out on dinner.

Activities: The beach is incredible, the staff sets up umbrellas for you and you get towels there so it's great not to have to lug a bunch of gear down, especially at 6 months pregnant! We brought a collapsible cooler with drinks and snacks so we didn't have to go back and forth to the condo. You have to go to Jenson's marina to see the manatee's and chat with the great guys in the shop. They hooked us up with a great fishing guide- Captain Shawn Kelly who took us out one afternoon to go snook fishing. He was great, very honest and we would love to go out with him again next time we visit. We were able to bring back bags of beautiful seashells, I'm trying to decide what to make with them for the nursery as a memory of our babymoon.

All in all, it was a great trip. We just missed the wrath of Debby so we felt very lucky that we had great weather while we were there. Would definitely recommend South Seas and Captiva Island to anyone looking for a great vacation. We can't wait to go back when the baby is old enough to enjoy it too!

Room Tip: Ask for a resort owned unit.

It is an awesome place for the entire family. All kinds of nature to see from birds to fish. I was amazed at how many different species of fish you can catch (and release) off the dock! Our first room smelled funny, and guest services did find us another room. I was upset that they did not offer to help us move our luggage from one room to the next since it was on the opposite side of the building. That took us about 2 hours to get settled in, which we could of been at the beach or at the pool. The other thing that bothers me is the resort fees. I feel $15 per person per day is outrageous. It should be $15 per day per room. The amenities that cover for it is not worth it. You still have to pay for bike rentals, fishing poles, etc. The rooms are okay, I think they are a bit overpriced. The staff is very friendly and couretous. We liked The Pointe Grill near the pool. Food was good. They do need to add a few more food choices. Harbourside Grill was good. Breakfast offered was only buffet ($21 for adult ). I think that was too expensive. $15 is reasonable. Dinner was good, expensive for what you get though. They need more of a variety. Holy Smokes was good too. Price was high for what you get. On the other nights we went to Sanibel Island for dinner.

Room Tip: Harbourside Point rooms is great for small family. very close to everything
