it's hard to beat the crows nest for vacation fun. this year, we skipped the crab races and came in for sunset drinks and bar food and ended up having a blast on the dance floor: grandparents, grandkids, couples...it felt like a wedding; a little bit cheesy but a whole lot of fun. even the staff was dancing!

the shareable plates were excellent, much better than your average bar fare : grouper bites, calamari (more like fritto misto with veggies mixed in - nice touch!), seared tuna and a generous hummus plate were all a hit with our crew.

We just stumbled upon this place on our first day here in southwest Florida.
We had no idea what we were getting into when we agreed to participate in the crab races,
But we all had a blast!

After an afternoon of sightseeing on Sanibal and Captiva we happened to stop by the Crow's Nest in search of an evening meal. We arrived just as the Nascrab races were finishing up and were given seating immediately. This was a surprise since during high season the restaurants here generally have a long wait to get a table. This is (to our group of four) an indication of something to be wary of. No problem at all! First of all our waitserver Casey was delightful. She was personable, knowledgeable and accommodating of our various requests. The food arrived at the table in a timely fashion in the right order with generous portions, all fresh and at proper temperature. Our requests for slight menu deviations were honored. The (shared) desserts were generous and delicious.

The restaurant was clean and the seating was well spaced. The restrooms were clean. In all we had a great experience.

This was our first visit to Crows Nest and the crab races. The kids buffet was worse than McDonalds, and over priced considering all the food was frozen. The adult menu was full of overpriced fried food. Not what I expected from this high quality resort. The highlight was happy hour drink specials and good service. The bar tender was very friendly. I would recommend skipping dinner and showing up at 6:30p to sign up for the crab races. Our kids (age 7 & 11) enjoyed the goofy host of the crab races but it drag on longer than necessary. He seemed more concerned about selling tshirts than the show at times... But overall an entertaining evening for the family. Much better places to eat on Sanibel and Captiva.

We are locals and have been many times. However, tonight was a bust.
We had family in from Pittsburgh and were going to the beloved crab races (who have been before) and almost had to be life flighted to hospital.

My 11 year old niece has major food allergies which were clearly outlined to our waitress Tania F. No dairy, eggs, peanuts, shellfish. She informed us that a hamburger with mashed potatoes would be no problem. We asked again are you sure there is no butter in mashed potatoes? No problem.

Food was delivered and we were in shock. Niece was given a hamburger on top of a BUTTERED bun with BUTTERED MASHED POTATOES and side cup of MAYONNAISE. WHAT??? Thank Goodness my niece is very aware of the situation and knew right away not to touch a thing. When we confronted our waitress her response was oh really butter in mashed potatoes and on bun. Which led us to believe none of our concerns were communicated with the kitchen. We later talked to a manager who sent out a new hamburger but too little too late. So disappointed and we will not return as we could have lost a loved one as that is how severe the allergies are.
Never been a concern before here as wait staff has been on top of it but not this time.

On a side note, Dan, at the bar was very accommodating when our waitress was overwhelmed with other tables and the entire situation.
